About the Geist EGM scores...

Can somebody be kind enough to post the reasons behind the scores? I've searched several threads and can't find anything except the actual scores. I just wanted to know what was said about it and how bad it really is.

I want to believe!

They said it was a crappy FPS and a crappy adventure game rolled into one. Bad AI, easy stupid enemies, easy repetitive puzzles.

Was there any reason to really get your hopes up on this game, other than the fact that it was Cube-sclusive? The bad news is it sounds like there's enough interesting elements to justify several months of fanboys writing about how "misunderstood" and great the game was (a la PN07, Eternal Darkness, etc).

I guess Eternal Darkness didn't get good reviews upon release. Jackass.

I think Eternal Darkness received slightly above average scores (in the 7-8 range, occassionally a 9) but it was clearly overhyped, overrated, and has very few fans.

So it can clearly go in the same boat as Geist.

4, 6, 5.5

They do a little sidebar about all the things you can possess (dog food bowl, manhole cover, naked girl in shower).....it sold me on the game a lot more than the review did :lol Sounds like there is potential for lots of fun and creative hijinks which is why I think it might inspire a lot of ED-styled apologists.

Errrr, huh?

Yeah, honestly. If you want to play FPS games on a console, buy an Xbox.

Yeah, kind of like how the Killzone2 CG looked pretty enough to justify several months of Sony fanboys writing about how Killzone1 was "misunderstood" and not as bad as everyone said it was.

In other news... Geist? Meh.

You mean how a game (PN03) tries something new and then gets criticised because it DOESN'T play like every game in a certain genre? I really wish the people who are so blinkered to magazine reviews would get off their lazy asses and actually play games for themselves. Especially when so many magazines and internet reviewers are fucking laughable when you see just how much they fail to understand the concept or reasons behind any kind of originality in a game

Sorry yeah hehe. Those were Geist's scores. I didn't read the whole question. As you can see, the EGM scores for ED averaged out to 8.17 (aka "way too high").

Well, there's only been 1 thread I've seen about Killzone revisionism.....meanwhile it's 3 years after the fact and you can still get called a jackass for implying that ED wasn't up to snuff :lol I don't expect Geist or Killzone to have the same kind of longevity, if only because the system wars have died down and people won't invest themselves in pimping exclusive games (or lamenting their "misunderstood-ness").

Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fortress....

Sadly, any game no matter how embarassingly bad it is will have a legion of fanboys. Take a look at any forum talking about Advent Rising. They usually are in complete denial about whatever game they are defending. In the case of Advent Rising, the fanboys go as far to say the game does not have any bugs and it is some global media conspiracy that the game did not sell 300K in its first month.

I picked up ED for 2.98 at Toys R Us on Clearance, and I still felt ripped off.

I have no faith that this game will sell well at all. In fact, I figured it would sell like ass all along. I'm a sucker for sci-fi and paranormal stuff. Since this has both, and is a FPS, I was, and to a point, still am, interested.

Eternal Darkness rated a lot higher than "slightly above average". :p

Where did you get that impression? The game has a crapload of fans for the amount it sold.

Preach it.

Hey, didn't you write the review of ED for Gamespot? Reading that made me go out and get a Dead Can Dance CD...

I did write that review. Wow, that's really awesome. When I write stuff like that in reviews I always hope that there's someone out there reading it who will get something out of it. It's awesome to hear someone did!

An ED review that makes people check out Dead Can Dance is cool. Unfortunately the review probably also resulted in people checking out ED, thus cancelling out accumulated coolness.

You can't rent something for free.
You never got a free rental coupon before? Poor soul. Blockbuster.com members get 2 every month.

Dunno why you'd say that since ED would make anyone cool!

Yea, and Blockbuster no longer charges late fees. Look up the definition.
The definition of what? Is there any reason we're delving into semantics now? :lol If some guy at the store accepts a coupon instead of money, it's a free rental in pretty much anyone's book.
