AC: Unity's devs: 60FPS doesn't look real and is less cinematic, 30FPS feels better

Shut the hell up. If I hear another developer talk about they want there game to feel more "cinematic" with 30 fps...

No wonder Ubi stopped supporting the WiiU

I retract this comment.

I knew some WiiU games were targeting 60fps at 1080p & in haste did a quick meme google.

I could argue that Nintendo was targeting 60fps at 1080p for these games.

I think the issue is that Ubi simply don't know what they are doing, instead of trying to stop a debate/argument they have made it even worse.

No one was expecting 60fps out of this on consoles. No one is upset that it runs at 30fps... We get upset when companies tell us what's best for us. They could have simply left it at "For the visuals we wanted to make, we wanted to have the game locked at 30fps" and not a single enraged typing finger would be raised... but to say gamers "prefer" or that it's "better" than 60? Come on, that's bullshit and we all know it is. Just be honest about not being able to reach 60 with what you wanted to do!

This isn't even remotely rocket surgery!

True story: The absurdity and ignorance inherent in those comments make me want to boycott Ubisoft entirely and forever.

"At Ubisoft for a long time we wanted to push 60 fps. I don't think it was a good idea because you don't gain that much from 60 fps and it doesn't look like the real thing...... it looked really weird.

..... and its not really that great in terms of rendering quality of the picture and the image.
It actually feels better for people when it's at that 30fps."

"and its not really that great in terms of rendering quality of the picture and the image."

You absolutely cannot disagree with that point though.

Forza 5 vs. Driveclub/Forza Horizon 2.

30fps - more cinematic- ughhh

Just on top, has there been any ubisoft game that actually ran locked 30fps? They´re always more like 24
truly cinematic lel
on consoles.

And what?! about the talk it being locked at 30 on PC? I know about the consoles but that just can´t be true. Please tell me.

Why is it that Kojima and his team are one of the only developers who understand why 60FPS are so goddamn important?

Seriously, fuck this industry and all the lazy developers like Ubisoft.

Nothing to do with lazyness, more to do with how well you can sell a game with eyecandy, vs higher framerate.

Then again, if the crowds and the CPU are the real bottleneck, perhaps they will have some crucial gameplay implication.... that they refuse to use as a justification for some reason.

Can someone shop the necessary names on the players please?

Ugh. I get that not everyone cares about 60 FPS. But the whole cinematic BS is so infuriating. Not only is it worse for those that prefer 60 FPS but they are then trying to tell you it's actually better.

Why are we still comparing an interactive medium where you move around, control the camera and react to things, with film (a passive medium). Please just stop already.

Did that guy tell the same thing to the Nvidia guys which they have a partnership with to pimp out their game?

you know what, with the stuff these developers say these days, it just shows the lack of respect they have for the audience. it's like they think we're all complete morons.

Seriously, they should just stop with that whole "cinematic feel" bullshit.

Also, "it feels better" is something entirely subjective and personally, I strongly disagree with that statement.

Doesn't ubisoft have a partnership with nvidia on this game? So why the 30fps bs? What the hell is the pr team doing.

You know I get the whole it's hard to achieve part because it is. Twice as much? Don't know about that rough figure but it sure needs considerations when designing your games features in relation to the hardware it's going to be running on. But the more information that is available the better for smoother motion.

The way the messaging has been handled for this particular game strikes me as somewhat odd. Maybe too many cooks spoil the broth.

So FF13 PC supporting 60 FPS is merely another piece of evidence that S-E hates PC gamers? They don't want them to experience the full cinematic splendor.

Hahaha well look at it this way at least you can cap a PC game that runs at 60-infinity down to 30 or for the real cinematic fans 24 or really, really hardcore 16 for that old times shuttered effect. Noting worse that a game clamped down to 30 and if it does get the restriction lifted find out the doors fall off.

What is ironic if Ubisoft really care about cinematic presentation they'd not force a 16:9 aspect ratio on their in engine cutscenes and let the whole game render at wider aspect ratios. Actually the Anvil Next based ones don't even allow 21:9 resolutions in game without being pillarboxed.

Yeah this isnt going well... They either think we're stupid, or they're stupid.

Fine if you're concerned about the "Feel between 30fps/60fps", but why not just give an option between 60fps/30fps like TLOU:R did. Just don't plainly say "30fps is better", let the people decide that.

you know what, with the stuff these developers say these days, it just shows the lack of respect they have for the audience. it's like they think we're all complete morons.

I think there's a real possibility that it isn't meant to be deceptive. That some of these guys actually believe what they are saying. In some ways that's even more disturbing.

Witness:
I don't think it was a good idea because you don't gain that much from 60 fps and it doesn't look like the real thing...... it looked really weird.

60fps would probably feel 'weird' to someone who doesn't play a lot of games at 60fps.

Smash Bros. isn't out. Before they were out, many of these games "were" 1080p :P
(Not saying it won't be for certain, but I reserve judgement until we see native framebuffer grabs from the release version)

Well I do it based on the native resolution of the screenshots Nintendo put out. All Mario, Mario Kart and all but 10 Donkey Kong Country ones were 1280x720 while Wind Waker and Smash screenshots have been 1920x1080 with no signs of upscaling.

But you're right, we won't be 100% sure on it until next month.

This is utter nonsense...

"Hey, I know what we can do! Let's try to put out this raging fire with gasoline! That should do the trick!"

Unity is a next/current-gen game only. If a cross-gen open world game like MGSV can run 1080p and 60FPS there is no fucking reason why Ubi can't do it with Unity.

It's all just damn excuses, same with female characters in the game. 10 fucking studios are working on this damn game and you tell me they couldn't get the game to run at 60FPS if they want to? or they come up with stupid excuses like "60FPS doesn't look real and is less cinematic, 30FPS feels better".... yeah fuck off Ubisoft i'm done with your shit.

The sad part is the game doesn't even look 30FPS when 4 assassins are fighting with smoke bombs and shit, they can't even get the game to run stable at 30FPS and you tell me this isn't lazy development? haha sure.

What?

Ubisoft's PR team: The gift that keeps on giving.

60fps doesnt look real.

Less cinematic.

I can't with these guys.

a video game developer who doesn't play video games.. what the fuck..

They could have simply said they chose 30 fps for the best combination of performance and visuals and left the "doesn't look real and not cinematic" BS out of the statement. What looks real or cinematic to me may not be so for the next person. Keep the subjective BS out of statements like this and just tell the damn truth. Its only good for potentially causing a shitstorm around the product you're trying to sell.

I wish they and other devs would stop with this shit. It's like they're treating non-developers as idiots. We know damn well 60 FPS is much better than 30 FPS. Stop with the cinematic bullshit.

It's kind of impressive just how badly interviews for this game are going.

Like I get that some publishers think the masses don't care, and they're probably right. But the masses also don't read any of your interviews. At least know your audience.

And man all this spin makes me think the PC version is really going to dethrone Watch Dogs for their worst port by a good margin.

Bro, they have to make AC: Rogue and AC: Unity at the same time.
Each year will have two AC, you should be happy with more rehash openworld games!
Give them a break.

The comparison with film isn't the same thing as game frame rate, and even then, The Hobbit looked phenomenal at the high frame rate. It's jarring because it's something were not used to for decades, but I'd imagine the next generation of cinema goers will quickly adapt. If anything it gives even more life to the movie (CGI has it toughest because it stands out more). You have to see it once to guess if you'd like it.

Well, openworld games NEED to be 30 fps (on consoles) to maintain acceptable graphics, but this PR bullshit is totally unnecessary
