Activist Group Calls For Major Switch 2 Boycott

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Activist group Gaming Consumer Rights has launched a website urging people to boycott Nintendo in response to its poor marketing practices surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2. The website is intended to educate consumers about the Switch 2 and what the GCR claims to be malicious marketing practices by Nintendo to trick and scare fans into purchasing an overpriced console and "repackaged $80 Switch 1 games."

The GCR's new website points an accusatory finger at Nintendo for using misleading marketing and artificially creating the illusion of scarcity. The GCR claims that Nintendo is manipulating gamers into buying a new console that actually has a far lower value, unnaturally hiking prices for the console, its games, and potential repairs down the line.

The website states that "it's time we SWITCH 2 a new gaming platform," and urges visitors not to support Nintendo by taking their purchasing power to other options.

illusion of scarcity
After the launch month I've always seen Switch 2's in stock. I also haven't heard that many people complaining about not being able to find a Switch 2 so it seems like there's plenty of stock.

I agree that it's bullshit Nintendo is charging so much for those Switch 1 ports and now charging $10 upgrade fee for certain titles.

They're still trying to push the retardation about Nintendo bricking consoles too. I knew Switch 2 would create meltdowns but I didn't think it'd be this bad.

I'd love to see the deep analysis these retards performed to arrive at the conclusion that the console is overvalued. Sounds like a whine that they just can't afford it. Unironically stop being poor.

The FAQ is hilarious, they even have a "how do you respond without sounding mad and poor?" section:

They also recommend to hide your Switch 2 online activity in case you're a hypocrite who boycotts but bought one anyway.

I love it.

"Activism" over the cost of a non-essential material product is delusionally entitled behavior.

Don't like the price? Can't afford it? Don't buy it. It was also hard to find in my area at launch.

The site has to be a troll.

If you think the games are too expensive, or there aren't enough compelling exclusives, or game key cards are a scam, those are all valid opinions, but ... just don't buy the console? Not everything has to be a fucking cause or a movement.

They're also burying the reasonable complaints about the console in a bunch of obviously false bullshit. How can you claim "manufactured scarcity" with a straight face when Nintendo made more consoles available at launch than any previous system, and when Switch 2s seem to be available at most retailers (outside of Japan) a few months after launch?

The suggestion that the device itself is overpriced is also transparently silly when you compare it to other similarly powered handhelds or to broader market prices in the video games sphere.

And, as Aldric said, the console bricking thing is just standard EULA legalese and there's zero evidence of bricked consoles. There have been consoles banned for suspected piracy, but that's standard operating procedure across all console ecosystems and nothing like "bricking."

Like, they'd have a much stronger case if they stuck to software prices and game key cards, which are legitimate pain points for a lot of consumers. Don't water down your argument with a bunch of fabricated nonsense.

I don't like the Switch 2 price, the price of its games, or game key cards.

I decided not to buy one, and fuck off and live my life. So should these guys.

Poor people problems.
Indeed.
And from the fact that Nintendo are doing quite well despite their pricing policies we can conclude that people in general seem to have enough money even for luxury goods i.e. poverty doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.

Gamer79 Gamer79 tried to start a movement 🤣
What are you playing on your Switch 2 right now?

1. Mario Kart that nintendo gimped and people hate
2. Donkey Kong (only last for so long)
3. Switch 1 games

Every day goes by just confirms I was smart for not getting Nintendo's greedy piece of shit box.

I fully expect everyone who doesn't want a Switch 2 to boycott it.

The 100 odd million others will buy it though.

And with each purchase a little piece of these morons will die inside. Because they oppose people exercising free will in a market full of choices and price points.

I don't like some of the fuckary around Switch 2, mainly with key card stupidity, slow game carts, and jacked up prices of games and accessories…. But I just didn't buy S2.

Activism against a god damn, console? Truly a "touch some grass" moment. 🙈🤦🤡
