This is the new Saturday night lineup, effective June 25 (not this coming Saturday but the next):

11 p.m. Futurama
11:30 p.m. Samurai Champloo - NEW
Midnight InuYasha - NEW
12:30 a.m. S-CRY-ed - NEW
1 a.m. Paranoia Agent - NEW
1:30 a.m. FLCL
5 a.m. Lupin
5:30 a.m. Case Closed

The ratings for the Saturday lineup for the last three weeks (ever since Futurama left) have been beyond awful, so it's goodbye to the all anime night idea. Also note that Inuyasha is now after Champloo, and S-CRY-ed now airs before Paranoia Agent. And it's bye bye to Trigun altogether.

I never realized how much shitty anime is floating around out there until AS.
FLCL is brilliant, and Samurai Champloo is pretty good as well, Lupin is classic.
The rest suck ass.

You forgot Paranoia Agent, aka "the best show currently on the lineup."

Inuyasha and Scryed suck it up, though.

Maybe i should Tivo it.
And i;m not stricly criticizing CN's line-up, but G4 has also exposed me to some truly awful anime.
I wish someone would pick up Future Boy Conan.

Paranoia Agent is too great. I think casual fans are gonna be like "this is boring, there's no fireballs", unfortunately.

Sucks about Paranoia Agent -- that's a great, great show. I wonder if the ratings slide was because the comedy went off or if it was because Fullmetal and GitS went off.. :)

I think it's both. What kind of surprising to me is that Inuyasha, the perennial headliner of the Adult Swim lineup, is pulling in terrible numbers for new episodes in what is widely considered to be the best part of the series. It's pulling in numbers similar to what Lupin was getting when it was at 1:30 on weeknights. It's just surprising how quickly what was once upon a time the number 1 anime series on Adult Swim has fallen to the level of a show that is now relegated to perpetual repeats at 5 am.

It also doesn't help that the show that leads into the Saturday night lineup now is 4Kids' One Piece. Few things will drive away your audience faster than that.

Ooow, One Piece. Yikes. Man, did 4Kids really mess that up or what? Here they had a winning series that I'm sure they paid out the @$$ for and then they decided to kiddify it beyond all recognition. That may have worked with Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon when there was a card game/video game supporting it, but One Piece doesn't have any of that. I can only hope the DVDs are better, although I am not holding my breath.

The DVDs will start coming out in September. They have "English TV Version" written right on the cover.

Poor One Piece.

That would be nice but probably won't ever happen sadly. Great anime though.
As for Paranoia Agent, I've been wanting to see that but I'll probably just pick up the DVD's eventually.

man oh man, they need to bring back Cowboy... now that is some good stuff. Now that I think about it, i watch pretty much all of it besides Lupin, just can't get into that one

Except for Gad Guard, I've liked alot of the stuff G4 has shown. Gungrave and RodTV are some of the best anime I've seen in a while on tv, and Magic Shopping Arcade is pretty cool.

Sucks to hear about Inuyasha, but one of the main reasons I stopped watching was because of them playing around with the order of the episodes too much, how do you enjoy the new eps when you can't even get up to date with the older ones?

One Piece seems like an anime I could really get into but the dub is just SO DAMN STUPID. I mean, I thought we were past horrible voices since DBZ was finished airing....but what are they thinking with the voices?

I miss FMA though, *THAT* is how you do a dub:)

Paranoia Agent fucking rocks. Was there ever a thread on it? This is one show that'd make for great discussion.

Scryed is slowly growing on me. Average dub. :\

Samurai Champloo has a pretty good dub, but Mugen just isn't... Mugen. Still liking the show better on television though.

Inuyasha... well, I never cared much for it.

Yeah, I was surprised that ROD TV was actually pretty good. Kinda stumbled upon it (think it was the episode where Anita first went to school).

...Really overdid it with the fanservice though.

Paranoia Agent is great, it sucks that it is not getting the ratings, if that is indeed why they moved it later. That will just convince CN that a cerebral show without explosions or swords is not worth putting on. :(

I can't fault them for their choices though, last year they had two of the best anime series out there, FMA and GitS:SaC, and now Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent are following that up pretty well. It keeps me from having to buy all these great series (poor). :)

And as for Inu Yasha, I HATE the arc they are on now, it's the band of 7 right? You know that when there's 7 of them it's going to take fucking forever to get rid of the all, AND
it solved absolutely nothing plot-wise. After sitting through all of that crap and having no payoff, I gave up on the series. I don't know why I stuck with it that long.

Lupin is all I need.

Speaking of One Piece, they ARE going to have bilingual DVDs at some point, yes?
The CEO of 4Kids says they're planning on doing uncut releases of "all" of their anime series, but I say he's talking totally out of his ass. They released like 1 or 2 uncut DVDs for Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King and then just stopped that altogether, and there's no sign of them planning on doing anything of the sort anytime soon.

In the meantime, the first One Piece DVD hits store shelves in September. It will be the awful butchered English TV version only.

*sigh*

Actually they've just started releasing uncut versions of DBZ so I wouldn't be that quick to dismiss the notion.

I gotta chime in in favor of Case Closed. It's dub isn't great in places, and it's US presentation is a bit dumb - it should just be Detective Conan. Period. And I can see some people being turned off by the older-style, almost Lupin-esque character designs and basic animation (with some beautiful background paintings though).

But CC is all about the Thinkie. Maybe you have to enjoy the crime and mystery genre. But it really is a Thinking Man's Anime, and not in the sense of all the contrived "look-we're-akira-and-evangelion-too" shows.
