Slitterhead | Review Thread

SteamDB says Slitterhead sold: ~1.3 k by VG Insights.
One thousand players bought it on Steam. Also only 700 concurrent players.

Sad, seem like this game is a great flop. And is not that bad to be so ignored(((((

I've only played up to the third mission myself but what I've played so far has been exactly what the doctor ordered. Great music and style, using what they had with an obviously very limited budget but so much focus that the quality shines through. So will scoff, others pass but for me its a damn fine game with an interesting story that has me hooked.

I've been playing this game a bit and I wish I could say that I love it, but I only like it. It's not some misunderstood work of genius so far, just a fairly OK video game. I like the quirky/janky nature of games like this (I also just played Shadows of the Damned again, and it was fun to revisit), so I definitely belong to the group most open to enjoying this kind of experience. I'm interested in seeing where it goes. I just unlocked the third playable character and did a few more missions.

The visual presentation is nice with great colour and neon lighting in HDR. Image quality is great on PC with crisp textures. The music is obviously good as Yamaoka rarely misses. Characters look... bad, and animation is just ok. The combat system is fun once you get the hang of it. Everything is slightly repetitive, but I'm interested in seeing where the story goes, so it has grabbed me a little.

I don't regret spending €45 on the game yet. I just hope it has a few nice surprises for me.

Loving the impressions here.

Game is only out on the 15th in EU but I feel that I will love this very, very much. There's a punk attitude to it that hits just the right spot.
It's out in the EU on Steam tho since Friday. I have no idea what's up with this quiet delay only on console; on Xbox, I get no entry for it at all in the store search.

I love quirky Japanese games but for some reason i hated Wanted Dead (maybe u expected too much from its Ninja Gaiden pedigree), how does Slitterhead compare to Wanted Dead? Is it more playable and cohesive or is it a similar hodgepodge of random stuff?

My advice is to just watch the gameplay on youtube and see if you like it. There's about 4 or 5 different core gameplay elements that are part of the loop. Combat, chasing, conversations / cutscenes, searching, stealth, etc.

Yeah it looks very intriguing, but Wanted Dead kind of burned me up so I'm going more carefully.

I know I'm probably going to buy it anyway, but still

Well I loved Wanted: Dead so I'm probably the last person to ask about it. 🤷‍♂️
I don't usually recommend divisive games to people because I don't know how other people feel about it. I just say what I think as I'm playing it and leave it at that. You'd have to identify what specifically you didn't like about Wanted: Dead I guess.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I have so many questions lol, the intro of this game is so fucking bizarre.

Also, the voice acting in cut-scenes is in English, but the game play ambient dialogue is in Japanese? Kinda weird.

I've been so busy I haven't even had time to take a shit. My copy arrived on Monday and I probably won't start this until Saturday. Is this our OT? Good grief.

I'm not sure how anyone listened to him in the first place as his delivery is so dry and dull.
I thought his build guides for Wrath of the Righteous were good. That's how I discovered him.

He's losing me with his shift to an all-purpose gamer channel because he rarely has anything interesting to say. Any time he's critical of something he'll follow that up with a positive spin on what he was critical of. It's like he's playing both sides. I dunno, hard to explain. Ultimately he seems to like everything so if you want vaguely positive reviews he's your guy.

What a weird game this is. Character models out of the PS3, and they all seem to have big-head-mode on by default. The game 'world' is very thin corridors and the game has Souls style combat, the last thing I expected.

I dunno, not far into the game, but I gotta say the way the game just randomly decides who you can posses and who you can't is not good game design. Like you need to infiltrate some place, but you can't just take control of a guard, you need to find some contrived way to go around.

The game just betrays it's own mechanics and doesn't seem to be doing anything particularly interesting with them.

I recently played Messiah with the same gimmick and that game put it to much better use.

You can't possess humans with low affinity or other Slitterheads. The more you know.

I always meant to see if Messiah was any good cause I’m a big Fear Factory fan.

I was just thinking the same thing lol, just had a forced stealth mission which is a baffling concept in a game where I should be able to possess the patrolling guard and just move on.

The game has lore. Not all humans are equal. Some have zero sensitivity and cant be possessed. Some have hypersensitivity and are rarities with stronger than normal connections. Also some Slitterheads and even military can detect you so stealth is sometimes needed.

I see. Since I'm on the verge of refunding can you tell me if the non combat sections of the game get more involved and difficult than the first infiltration mission where you need to learn about the mafia ring?

It was very linear and obvious of what to do, but it is the first mission like that so maybe it gets trickier the further you go?

I'm having trouble finding physical copies in Europe. Any news on this?

I love the look of this and even though I'm swimming in games to play, I'd love to support this and buy/play it later.

If you're not into it now, you might as well bail on it.
