After using the Switch 2 for a week I'm glad I have a Steam Deck

B-b-but I can play my totally legal copies of Nintendo games on my Steam Deck at higher resolutions and frame rates without being cuckolded by Nintendo!!!

I actually think the OG/OLED Switch is more comfortable for the same reason you think the SW2 is more comfortable. I don't care for how big "handhelds" are now.

There is no point arguing with him. This is how every single conversation goes with him unless you are side by side with him sucking PC off. He always has a clear agenda and arguing with him is a waste of breath.

Tell that to the countless YouTube comments on every Switch 2 review. My favorite tech YouTuber even made a video about it because his Switch review was full of them. Or take a look at all the runaway posts in the Switch threads here.

Bro! Calm down! We're trying to argue here not jerk off. Come on man...

Is there a reason you don't run Chiaki or PS Play on the SD versus the Portal?
I've tried the emulation route and it's not a compelling experience for me. Not all games work properly. Graphical glitches etc and not everyone wants to tweak settings constantly to enjoy gaming.

Games released years ago and BC make the Switch 2 launch fine but PS5 was ass? That's an interesting take.
I meant to say ps5 was fine because of backward compatibility- the exclusive launch ps5 titles were scant. Looking purely at ps5 exclusive launch titles, it was bad. Demon's Souls ruled, but that was it. The backward compatibility was and is great, tons of great ps4 games running great with minimal load times. It feels very similar to switch 2 launch to me.

Oh I'm right there with you. I even posted a thread once trying to convince myself to come around to emulation more. I'm just making fun of all the people that would respond to your Nintendo games comment with shit like that.

I can practically taste the Switch 2s demise already

We keep telling you Nintendo makes the cartridges taste nasty so kids (and retards, apparently) won't try to eat the damn things.

The streaming works a lot better, DualSense features. Ergonomics feel just like the DualSense. Etc. Plus the cloud streaming. Portal is worth every penny imo.
Ahh I actually had a better experience with Chiaki image quality wise but I also use my Portal versus my SD OLED because of the ergonomics. Just way more comfortable to use for me.

Duh duh Steam Deck doesn't have any accessories and by the logic no games too because they are not made exclusively for it so they don't count duh duh.... / the logic of some warriors. 🤦‍♂️

After playing Switch 2 for a week it made me realize how great the Steam Deck is.

On the hardware side, the OLED screen Steam Deck pummels the Switch 2. I remember hearing in previews that the Switch 2 screen was great but I strongly disagree with that due to noticeable ghosting and washed out picture. I like the concept of Joy Cons (the way they attach magnetically is awesome), but they are still uncomfortable to use and the lack of dpad makes some games unplayable IMO. I refuse to use the analog stick for 2D games like a filthy casual. The Steam Deck is just so much more comfortable to hold.

On the software side its usual woes of console gaming. Yes, the Switch has an amazing catalog of games. Unfortunately many of them are handicapped with crappy settings that require a developer to update. That means we're left to beg online and wonder if/when a patch will come for these games. All so they don't look like ass.

Take Dave the Diver for example, great game... locked at 30fps until the dev updates it. People are left to beg for a patch. Now do that with the majority of your Switch library. Disgusting.

I dunno man. I won't call it buyers remorse but I'm feeling a little unenthused. Anyone with me?
Totally agree. Then again, I got the Switch 2 to play a few Nintendo games (docked) each year, so the terrible form factor is not much of a issue here. It will stay docked 99% of the time, and I like the new Pro controller!
In total it's definitely far from a "Steam Deck-killer" for me. (Which I never expected it to be)

With the amount of talk Steam deck receives, one would think it would have been this sales behemoth. Maybe people are right about steam deck users being like vegans.

After buying the Switch 2 to replace my broken Switch 1, I am glad that I have a Steam deck....
Because my children can now go back to their wonderful couch coop games and Mario and all that, leaving my Steam deck alone so I can continue my Elden Ring playthrough unbothered. And Oh, The Mario Kart World was fun for everyone, Age of Calamity and Bayonetta 3 kinda work much better than the original Switch as well which is big plus.

The Switch 2 in my eye is a family entertainment system or a party machine. It serves a completely different purpose compared to my Gaming PC/handheld.
Even non-gamers and children can work out in minutes how to split the joycons for multiplayer, this is amazing in its own way.

The grip. Back buttons for example are already a thing on SW2?
Oh, I thought you meant the uncomfotable grip itself.

To answer your actual question, back buttons on Switch 2 are... semi-standard? Not sure how to put that. They don't appear on the joycon (probably because they aren't thick enough to be grippable), but they are on the charging grip and the pro controller. I'd expect some 3rd party grips to take advantage of that with grip buttons eventually since they're already supported in software.

You'd ignore someone over an opinion? Man, it's literally just a different take on something, and you're like "I never wanna hear from you again" lmao.

Hey, while your soft ass is at it, throw me on that ignore list too if ya don't mind, wouldn't wanna hurt that fragile ego with thoughts that differ from yours.

Am replaying Death Stranding DC on the steam deck oled. And then for the sequel I will probably go 50% remote play because the display is that damn good. Thats how versatile it is. Best handheld ever.

It's incredible how fragile some people are. Anytime anyone mentions even somewhat critical opinions about their beloved console, they seem to take it like a personal afront, and go to absolutely ridiculous lengths to try to discredit them and their opinions.

Except that that is the most basic takeaway without context or nuance that can apply to the concept of using an ignore function. Maybe one day you'll figure that out...

It's ironic that Steam Deck runs Arch now. There seems to be an overlap between Arch and Steam Deck users when it comes to the desire to inform everyone about their usage of Arch/Steam Deck.

I have a Steam Deck.

It's better if you already have an established library, are familiar with PC stuff and know how to properly stream from more powerful systems using Moonlight /Sunlight.

Switch 2 would be the better choice if you don't have any of the above or you absolutely must play remotely.

Screen differences are night and day between the Switch 2 and OLED Steam Deck. I mean the Switch 2 screen is fine and 1080p but it still feels like a downgrade from the display one I looked at.

My young one wants a switch 2 for all the new Mario games so will probably end up picking one up for him. Curious as to the performance as I've heard it's ok some games and really good on some games.

Saving my money for the Legion Go 2 or if there is ever a new steam deck.

Steam Deck is used for PC games.

Switch 2 is used for Nintendo games.

What else is there to say?

Since there are Switch 2 exclusives there is no buyer's remorse at all, I already have 2 games I can't play anywhere else and more is on the way.

Switch 2's biggest issues for me have been display based. The screen isn't bad for IPS but downgrade from OLED, although the lack of tearing etc and presentation is nice with VRR on mobile option. On to HDR, what in the heck is Nintendo doing? They have had years to get this sorted and their first attempt is a broken mess. Apparently they must think that HDR is just raise peak brightness. 😂 The whole no VRR connected to TV is a kick to the nards as well. But we all know Nintendo will probably release an improved version with OLED and proper HDMI 2.1 VRR. The HDR will probably get sorted over time for TVs.

The Switch 2 is a Nintendo 1st party or exclusive 3rd party games system to me. So far I have enjoyed seeing the games that have had updates running in a more crisp resolution and better framerates/times. I popped In Links Awakening last night and really enjoyed the improvement over the SW1. So while the system isn't perfect, I think we are going to get years of good looking and good performing Nintendo games. I believe we finally are in the hardware performance sweet spot for Nintendo games to look exceptional for Nintendo's art style.

On to the Deck, have both the LCD and the OLED versions. The system is a good indie powerhouse. I don't expect it to play a lot of newer power hungry games directly, but the configurability is solid and you have access to many other games not on consoles. Plus while it is more heavy and bulky, for me they are easier to hold than the sw2 without grips (although the new magnetic locking system does help with the sturdiness of the sw2 while holding, very impressive Nintendo).

Overall these systems aren't really competitors in current form in my mind, not due to sales, but use cases for these are so different. There has never been a better time to be in the handheld game. I think everyone can be happy playing with what and how they prefer playing, at least we have options.

He could be ignoring the thread. I'd hope so anyway. Pretty extreme putting a person on ignore for this.

Here we have Switch owners pretending they have the best gaming device money can buy.

So you're just illustrating the difference between playing on a console (convenience, 1st party game libary, ease of use) vs PC (customization, tweaking, modding).

Not exactly groundbreaking stuff.
In the handheld space, it is. Very clearly proven with this thread. If you are coming into the gaming space with with $80 exclusives and costs associated to upgrading visuals and performance on old games and a $450 price tag for your device, you better be coming to the space with a device better than the $400 Steam Deck, $550 OLED Steam Deck (only the screen is the difference), or even the theoretical Steam Deck 2.

Being able to mod my games change settings to increase performance is a huge advantage that Nintendo should be cautious about. Don't be pretentious.

Loving the ignore button on this site.

Like an Ostrich, you hide from the things you can't handle. In this case, it's the truth.

I might finally pick up a Steam Deck in the next year... but I know I'm definitely going to pick up the next Mario/Zelda machine, those franchises are unmissable for me and there's really nothing that unmissable in gaming anymore (**unless we finally get a Portal 3 or HL3, those would top it).

So Steam Deck is a neat addition that I'd enjoy that mostly would play all the things I already play on my PC. But NSW2 is an entry ticket into a unique set of software titles from a legendary exclusive developer. Not really comparable.
