Jeffrey Bell on Fitzsimmons.

Fitz told Simmons he loves her! Does that mean they'll get together next season on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? — Priya
Not so fast! Did you notice that when Simmons kissed Fitz, she smooched him everywhere but on his actual mouth?
"Clearly, any time one person says something and a person doesn't reciprocate, it changes things,"
executive producer Jeffrey Bell tells me.
"It's safe to say there will be consequences." Further complicating matters: Producers want to keep Agent Triplett around.

One thing (THE ONE THING) that AoS has done right so far is personal relationships, so I'm actually looking forward to see how it evolves. I'm betting money on the MCU version of this:

Anyway, if we saw Paul Rudd as a janitor in an episode of Agent of Shield that would be pretty cool. Don't even make a big deal about it. Just have him mopping in the background or something.
I've been thinking they should do the reverse of this with Avengers 2/3. Have the AoS team randomly in the background of some scene having a heated, yet unheard conversation.

I didn't think they'd really pull off Fitz and Simmons as a couple. If anything, I'm a little surprised that they decided to go that direction with Fitz in the first place. Fitzsimmons works best without the romance. Maybe in the end when the show wraps up or if they decide to leave, but not as part of the Bus.

Simmons was the important one of the duo in the end. Fitz was her "Jesse" to her "Xander."

Fitz is still important since he's basically the Q of the team. She's biology while he's engineering basically, so each is weaker without the other even before you get into their work synergy.

Hopefully they'll back off on the romance angle for Fitz. Maybe have him discover that he was just confusing his feelings due to his entire world changing almost literally overnight. I'd like to see him get an outside romance angle. Someone not in a similar field and not a polar opposite. Like a (former) SHIELD analyst. Someone who can guest star occasionally, assisting the team with light work such as baddie backgrounds and intel.

It's a Joss Whedon Show, so we're gonna see Fitz brooding and generally being an asshole and getting away with it. Meanwhile, everyone will for some odd reason treat Simmons like the bad guy, regardless of how many bullshit monologues Fitz gives her.

Then she'll sleep with him.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Fitz / Simmons: Cutest couple on television.

I just want them to be official but seeing earlier posts, it doesn't look like that'll happen. ;(

It would be more interesting if Fitz ended up changing his personality slightly and started becoming more like a specialist.

Well, wasn't it mentioned in the finale that he has 'changed' somehow?

Yup. Pretty sure it'll either be he's in a coma so we won't see much of fitz apart from the bed side scenes where people talk to him wanting him to wake up and simmons being all "It should have been me ;_; but I only like you as a friend tho" or He'll be conscious but brain damaged due to the brain being without oxygen for several minutes.

In the end they will inject him with special compound x that Simmons is secretly working on during episodes and it'll turn him into something.

Nah Flowers will approach him with something while they are away and ask him if he is willing to give up his humanity to become something greater and voila, he becomes a supergenius villain.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca

That something being M.O.D.O.K. obviously.

Not sure how's that relevant given that Ms Marvel wasn't originally called Skye either.

Oh yes I went there

Coulson mentioned he'll never be the same. Maybe he's a veggie, maybe they've used project Deathlok on him to save him, we don't know. All we know is that in his moment of bravery, where he told Gemma he loved her, she cemented his feet, hands and heart in the friendzone. Dude will never fully recover.

Technically, isn't Rhodey both War Machine and Iron Patriot in the MCU?

Yup. IIRC they actually went as far as saying "Iron Patriot sounds more friendly than War Machine".

Yup. There's no way a relationship is happening.

Dude was going to SACRIFICE HIS LIFE and still had his feelings denied.

That's an entirely new level of friendzoned.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
It's a Joss Whedon Show, so we're gonna see Fitz brooding and generally being an asshole and getting away with it. Meanwhile, everyone will for some odd reason treat Simmons like the bad guy, regardless of how many bullshit monologues Fitz gives her.

I'm trying to think of literally a single example of this in any Whedon show, but I'm coming up blank. Xander is the exact opposite of what you describe, as he never sleeps with Buffy and everyone gets tired of his shit pretty quickly. None of the relationships in Firefly fit the bill, and dollhouse barely had any legitimate relationships as everyone was essentially a programmed robot.

Maybe your thinking of Spike, but even though Buffy gets his vampire D, everyone pretty much hates him because he is an asshole.. Wesley in Angel doesn't really work either, because he doesn't really monologue to Fred at all, and no one ever treats Fred like the bad guy.

Wesley is pretty close to this situation though as we've actually seen it play out so far. Wesley wants Fred. Wesley gets put out of commission. Fred gets with Gunn. Wesley goes dark but not really evil and messes around with Lila who is hotter than Fred anyway.. Wesley does eventually get with Fred only for her to die in the next episode.and become Illyria.

I agree with this that the closest Whedon analogy to Fitz/Simmons/Triplett is Wesley/Fred/Gunn. EDIT: Not just racially.

Simmons kissing all over his face still breaks my heart such that I can't rewatch the finale yet. What an epic friend-zoning.

I also think back to the moment revealed-Ward tried to prod Fitz to tell Simmons how he feels before Ward realizes to whom he's talking. Which is even more ironic now in the sense, "You never how much time we all have left... until I try to kill you."

Fitz/Ward now have essentially the richest backstory between any characters on the show. I don't really believe the MODOK/Taskmaster stuff, but imagine if it came true to a degree- mad scientist Fitz vs. ruthless mercenary Ward. Promising.

You know.. I've got to say, I really feel like "friend zone" doesn't apply to the Fitzsimmons situation. Getting friend zoned implies that Fitz has always had a thing for Simmons and she's never returned the feelings romantically, but for all intents and purposes... there's no sign that Fitz has ever had romantic feelings for Simmons until, what? The last 5 or 6 eps of the season? Before that there's even a scene or two where it seems like he might be developing a thing for Skye.

It just doesn't seem to fit the situation properly imo. Plain old rejection fits the situation a bit better I think.

No, but this is a way it can happen in real life. I've had it happen like this- developing feelings for someone who (well, in my case can't) doesn't reciprocate them, and it sucks. What you want to do (be with them as much as possible) and what you need to do (sever ties for your long-term mental health) are radically different and there's no positive outcome to the situation, nor is it anyone's fault.

"Love Revelation Epiphany"
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LoveRevelationEpiphany

Actually, reading that, Fitz sounds more like Green-Eyed Epiphany.

Before the crisis, the character is perfectly fine being Just Friends or totally platonic bickering partners with another. But then, that other character gets romantically involved with an interloper, causing their not-at-all love interest to suddenly feel the sting of their absence. Once they finally admit to themselves their feelings, the Romantic False Lead's got hell to pay.

This description fits to a tee, even down to the "hell to pay" with Fitz trying his damnedest to out smart Triplett (though failing).

Has anyone else went from hating this show to go on to actually really liking it? I'm in that camp. I mean, the show started off horrible but it's really grown on me and I'm actually really enjoying it now. I liked the season finale and I really digged Bill "Game Over, Man!" Paxton. Also awesome to see Fury in more than just a very brief cameo.

I don't think I've enjoyed television shows as much as I ever have before. Breaking Bad, Falling Skies, Fringe and now Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and even 24: Live Another Day is really satisfying me.

Does Falling Skies get better as it goes on, because when the remains of humanity stopped running from killer aliens to watch a kid skateboard in slow motion I turned it off and never went back.
