Yeah, that's pretty silly...especially since they air Lost. Do you not get ABC or something?
The issue is the following: CTV has the rights to simulcast the following American network shows airing on Wednesdays in the States.
- Law and Order
- Lost
- Wife Swap
- Alias
- American Idol (Results)
- CSI:NY
- The West Wing
And, they only have three hours of primetime. Before the season began, They had less of an issue, because Idol wasn't starting yet, Alias wasn't starting until January either, and they didn't pick up Lost. Then, after the huge American ratings for Lost, CTV aired the pilot as a special event, and the ratings were huge, so they picked up an option on the rights. And then Alias was moved to Wednesdays...and thus why CTV airs it on Sundays at 4pm. They have some serious scheduling issues.
I only have a TV and an antenna in my dorm room, thus I only pick up CTV/CBC/Global(Fuzzy). Thus, had to wait for the torrent.
Speaking of which, I'm in the more recent group in the post, being that I really enjoyed the episode. There were no elaborate set pieces, no huge complicated fights, or anything of the sort. It was an episode with a cool premise, a hot and interesting character, sharp writing and a big character episode for someone other than Sydney. It was a strongly acted, well written and thus entertaining episode of television. I've stopped comparing this to other seasons; for now, I'm being entertained by characters I still enjoy watching. The plots thus far have remained interesting, if not linked to a greater story thread, and I cannot complain with what is being produced. If I was holding it to past standards, maybe, but it's a new Alias. And I'm just going to sit back, enjoy the ride, and not worry about anything else.
It was doing very well in the ratings prior to this episode (14 mil), quite a bit better than 24 which usually has a 2 page thread devoted to it. However with the start of American Idol, I have a feeling that it will drop significantly
. Fuck that stupid show.
Ratings were good again last night. Ratings for Lost and Alias were both down a little bit, but that is to be expected considering American Idol's return. They were not, however, affected very much, which shows that the threat of American Idol will not be large enough to stop Lost from being a success, and I seriously doubt Alias will hurt too much in the long term.
