Alien Covenant Trailer Released

This looks like literally aliens remade with 2016 CGI and a rag tag "space crew" instead of marines having to deal with the xenomorphs. I'll watch at home, but pretty disappointing that its just constantly retreading the same ground instead of exploring amazing new stuff like the planet of the engineers, where the xenomorphs came from (maybe it does?), why there was a crashed elephant/engineer ship on LV-426, etc.

It would be funny if this crew is more competent at dealing with new crazy stuff than the crew of scientists and specialists that Prometheus assembled.

On an alien planet
With a fishbowl
And fabric coverings.

If you're going to complain about Prometheus at least make it something unique to that film.

Oh I reference Prometheus because its current, I honestly wasn't even thinking of the old films for good or bad examples, I was speaking strictly on the moment and not "it was better before".

Regardless, you'd not step foot on an alien planet in... camo with your entire body exposed. You'd drop dead in *minutes* as every single thing on the planet would tear you apart.

It's a planet where
its the homeworld for the very species that engineered the human race
and the Covenant is a ship full of scientists and researchers with all the equipment necessary for colonizing a planet. Waterson's character is a teraforming scientist.

Plus it's science fiction I mean come on. lol

Blade Runner found much of its later love thanks to a director's cut that fixed problems forced onto it by the studio. No one thinks of the theatrical cut when they think of Blade Runner being a classic.

Prometheus isn't getting a new cut that gives the scientists brains or removes the moronic mythology stuff.

Oh, my complaint is entirely personal haha. I just find it to be a stupid convenience for the plot when no actual scientific expedition would do such a stupid thing.

Sci-fi or not, I hate plot contrivances that require scientific ineptitude from a group of, supposed, scientists.

Kind of the same problem I had with Prometheus, you'd not go onto an alien planet with a giant fishbowl on your head. You'd be in some bullet-proof, anti-environment super-suit... but then the whole plot wouldn't have been able to happen, I guess.

The planet has an Earth like atmosphere and oxygen. It is not like the creators are complete idiots.

I mean I guess, they would be overly safe in reality, but look at Aliens. A whole communitys wiped out, and yes they had an atmospheric processor, but the safe bet would have been to wear space suits. But you cannot go ape shit with a handheld Gatling gun in a space suit.

It's not even like Kane wasn't being a dumbass, it's just ludicrous to act like that's equivalent to the buffoonery at display in Prometheus.

The whole trailer Feels like fanservice. So much retreading of similiar themes and similiar shots. This Feels like the force awakens alle over against.

This.

Alien is a solid fucking movie with hardly any "man it's dumb this character would never do that" moments. Prometheus is dumpster fire in comparison with not a single character acting in any believable way.

Huge numbers of Native American people were wiped out by diseases brought by European settlers, most notably smallpox. With no prior exposure to any foreign pathogens, their immune systems were not at all equipped to handle them, regardless of being members of the same species as white settlers.

I'm just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. I love the film and don't have any issues with it, but you can pick apart any work of fiction and it'll start to fall apart.

You can argue "don't touch what you don't understand" should be common sense and that he shouldn't have been near it if he didn't know what it was and a million other things in that movie, but ultimately it's not the end of the world and that dumb shit is done to move the plot along.

She's killed offscreen. Flashbacks reveal David killed or experimented on her when they arrive on Paradise. I believe she sent the distress beacon the Covenant picks up though before dying because of what David does to the Planet.

Yeah, this is really throwing me off.

It looks like a generic shitty tv horror film somehow got a wonderful budget and then set itself in the Alien universe. The movie may end up being great, but damn, it doesn't look it.

You can move the plot along without painful and telegraphed contrivances though, via better writing. They just couldn't structure anything better.

You're essentially giving Prometheus the "a wizard did it" defence.

I'm not even mad. Shaw was such a non-character in Prometheus, it would be hard to grieve too much for her, even if she has been killed off in such a vague an anti-climatic fashion.

Not to mock you at all. But I love the idea that a new Alien film trailer creates such passion and gets people to discusss human history, and how the film is not a realistic representation of how people would act when exploring new planets.

I'm not defending Prometheus, but complaining about that specific thing was pretty nitpicky.
But I'm also not going to have another long conversation about Prometheus.

Kind of dissapointed. I mean, it looks fine, but it looks very Prometheus/Alien-like. Since they're goind into Engineers homeworld I expected something crazier and bigger.

Yeah this was a super shitty trailer but set leaks revealed
new aliens, big face huggers and there are more of those giant head things from Prometheus.

It's nitpicky, I'd assume the example is one of many. As Prometheus is a dog with many nits.

I was gonna type out my nitpicks but don't wanna derail the new movie.

It's an alien planet. Doesn't matter if the air is breathable, you don't prance around without environmental suits lest you get infected by never-before-discovered agents. How'd these schmucks earn their space-faring license?
 
I would spoiler that. Stuff outside of the trailer itself is probably stuff that people want to go blind into the film with.

You see Shaw with both David's head and body at the end of Prometheus. He would of been the only one to fly a juggernaut off of the Planet so she would of needed to fix him.

One thing characters in the Alien universe need to realize. If an egg opens, or a cobra like creature appears in front of you... Back away, do not lean in. I mean maybe it will imbue with special powers, but chances are it will end badly.

Yeah, you see Shaw lowering David's body out of the crashed juggernaught and I believe there's even dialog to the effect that she needs to fix him because he's the only one that can get them off the planet to find the engineers homeworld. lol

That sounds better. I just want more bizzare thing. For all it's faults Prometheus successfully created the atmosphere of alien terror. Ie..that the space is vast and alien and there are horrific things out there we can't fully understand. I mean the same kind of feeling you got when you first saw the monolith in 2001 or during the scenes when they explored the alien space ship in first Alien. This kind of feeling is what I want :)
