Alien Earth Open Spoiler Thread

Now there is another season of this

Excellent use of another Bill Paxton character. 10/10

I finished it and I don't think I'll be returning if there's a season 2. It never truly felt like Alien to me. But even with that I would've given it a chance if it nailed all the other things, and I felt it left so much meat on the bone. So many directions it could've gone in and they just never went in any of those directions. So many cool things they could have done with Kirsh, Morrow, Yutani, the eyeball... and they ended it in the lamest and most ho-hum way possible. Some series I think are meant for movies and not TV and this is one of them. Oh well, at least they tried.

Absolute and utter shite. That's all it is.

The alien is completely neutered now, it holds no sense of threat whatsoever and they write Wendy to have whatever super-skill is required for whatever scene she's in.
Talk to Alien? Check.
Manipulate all electronic devices? Sure why not!

The marines carry proto-pulse rifles. Which implies Hicks and company went on a mission with antique technology.
Boy-Wankshaft offers a million dollars to anyone who can find and protect him. A million dollars? In 2120? I'm assuming that'd be about the value of a second-hand car if inflation carries on at its usual pace.

Worst of all it looks like its going to be renewed, so people are actually watching this and telling themselves its good. Holy shit, standards have dropped so fucking far.

Since starting to watch this abomination a few weeks ago I've rewatched the first 2 movies again. The difference in story, characterization, performance, music, production, fucking everything, is insane. And this show has a budget 5 times bigger (inflation adjusted) than Aliens in 1986. And now it gets to sit in the same IP with them and gradually fuck it up some more. S2 will go completely over the edge with retcons and member-berries. Believe that!

I will say one positive thing though: I've had a lot of fun here on GAF ripping on this garbage for the last couple of months. Thanks bros, you gave me some genuine LOL moments here! :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I'll see you back here in 2-3 years for season 2 when, thanks to the time gap, I'll barely remember what the fuck happened in the first season!

The USCSS Nostromo was valued at $42 million just two years after this episode, so I'm guessing they've gone through a deflationary spiral or two.

It turned out like a doppelganger. It looked like Alien, but once it started moving and speaking, it was clear something was very wrong. I didn't expect to be getting a superhero show, but that's what the finale points to. Alien and Aliens are so compelling in part because those were down-to-earth, honest-to-god heroes.

Who even is the protagonist/hero in this? Wendy? She intentionally kills people via Xeno who weren't an immediate threat to her. She lost my sympathy with that move. The rest of the kids suck across the board. Morrow and Kirsch are interesting characters but they are both evil in their own ways. Boy Genius is terrible. The brother is is a good guy but not a dynamic force for the story. And the husband & wife scientists ended up likable but they're just side characters.

Seriously, what was the point?

That's true. I just assumed the writers didn't cleverly create some backstory on the finances of the world. The more likely scenario is they just never watched the movies and made a whole bunch of moronic mistakes because they have no respect for the IP.

Well for reference, the going rate for an entire M-class star freighter is only about 42 million unadjusted dollars.

Minus payload of course.

Edit: Lol, beaten

which sounded expensive when it was written in 1986.

They should've written it with those figures in mind, but they didn't because they're lazy cunts. They said the androids were worth billions, its just all over the place.

Replace the Xenomorph with anything else and this show wouldn't change

I give it 5/10 overall, it doesn't respect the lore at all and the human synthetics don't respect the universe vibe. The xenomorph would have attacked them on sight like it was shown in every other movie/game/comic

Kirsh was the star of the show.
I'm glad he survived.

I don't get why they added the pointless pregnancy storyline for nibs that went nowhere.

They were also priming Curly to betray Wendy at some point but it never happened.

Also Slightly should have been killed off.
I'd rather we get more Isaac story than Slightly.

That was, quite possibly, the WORST "season ending" of ANY show I've watched, EVER.

It's so maliciously bad it almost makes me want to burn the stacks of alien movies, comics, books, games, and toys. It has so cucked the xeno that I fear the franchise will NEVER recover. Even Ridley Scott didnt hate the IP as much.

It was missing an entire episode shown from the perspective of T. Ocellus. Hope we get one next season.
Its POV would be headache-inducing when its vision is splintered into eight irises. Imagine if it also accidentally ingested some LSD.

Game of Thrones is still worse, they spent years building up an unstoppable threat that they resolved in seconds.

I came in late to the show after having heard about the infamous ending for many years. Lo and behold when I sat down to finally watch it after having binged all seasons and I wasn't disappointed. The only problem was that it was rushed, but it felt like a satisfying conclusing. The episode of the war felt like a movie, incredible production values.

The season ending of A:E didn't feel like an ending. It might just as well have been a mid-season episode. Now a show with excellent season endings was Smallville seasons 1-4. I was always incredibly hyped up for them even if they were cliffhangers.
