Alien III - any good?

Anyone here checked out Alien III?

It's based one of the (many) Alien 3 concepts that weren't total shit like the shit ass movie we ended up with.

Michael Beihn (legend) and Lance reprised their roles for it.

Father of cyberpunk, William Gibson's original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online.

This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation — directed by the multi award-winning Dirk Maggs — is the chance to experience William Gibson's untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and Aliens as a completely immersive audio experience.

The story begins with the Sulaco on its return journey from LV-426. On board the military ship are the cryogenically frozen skeleton crew of that film's survivors: Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop.

We travel aboard and hear an alarm blare. Our heroes are no longer alone...

Interested if anyone's listened to it.

At this point, I have to ask... which version is the general preferred cut? The original theatrical version? The workprint edition, that is generally marketed as the 'special edition' or the fan 'legacy cut'?

There are things about this movie that I do like. It has great cinematography and is directed well. I like the cast. But as a movie, it just puts me to sleep. Seriously. I tried watching the assembly cut once and I just fell asleep at the half way point. It's rare that I ever fall asleep watching a movie.

The movie still feels like a mangled mess. There is a reason why David Fichner disowned it and there has never really been a proper directors cut. Don;t get me wrong, it was his directorial debut. The movie was already a mess before he got there. It was Fichner's job to try and make what was already there a functional movie. He tried his best.

I just can't get into Alien 3, no matter what version I watch.

The Alien III audio drama is based on the second draft of the William Gibson script. This a shame as I was really looking forward to listening to it but it's, in my eyes, inferior to the first draft.

It's well made but not particularly memorable.

Ignoring the premise that they missed the queen laying several eggs out of sight despite her huge size, it's just a huge step down from the previous movies.

It's OK as an exercise in "what if". Good performances by the cast really help to make it feel legit.

And the movie itself is a glorious mess. Workprint is better but its all still so disappointing given the momentum and hype it had coming from Aliens. It's an absolute fucking masterpiece compared to what came after though. Alien Earth is legitimately one of the worst things I've ever seen on TV.

It's good, but not as good as you hope it's going to be. I listened to it it when it was released on audible a few years ago. It was very well made for an audio book. I won't say anything because it is a 100% completely different take and Indin't want to spoil it. If you are a huge fan of Alien like myself it is definitely worth your time.

is it better than what we got with the film, perhaps, but over the years I have warmed up a bit on Fincher's bleak prison colony especially with the release of the special edition.

I enjoyed the audiobook more than I enjoyed Aliens 3. The cast performances make it shine. The Impact Winter series is better if you're looking for good audio dramas.

Wow, Disney has made its last Alien movies so bad... that now Alien 3 is considered a good movie even though it's terrible.

If you want a movie that will make you really sleepy... or play in the background while you clean your house... this movie is your only option.
