Last months Microsoft rogue ally whatever handheld announcement it feels like everybody is trying a handheld (perfect time for Apple to try gaming handheld) anyway it got me wondering about that Alienware concept from 5 years ago during the pandemic let me help you remember

It made noise for it's interesting joy sticks.

Now Alienware is a calculated gaming desktop and gaming laptop company so I guess they feel they have a score to settle or land to claim in the gaming handheld department.

What's everyone's thoughts on this gaming handheld stuff on that the dust has settled, is everyone mocking Nintendo switch? Is Apple going to claim to gaming hand held? Will gaming handhelds inspire someone else? Nokia? I guarantee you you will see phone elements incorporated into gaming handhelds.

I doubt it. That would be going backwards. There's nothing 'phone' related they need in there.

I don't think Apple is jumping in, and Nokia is barely a hardware company at this point.

Honestly, the only players you should expect are the ones already in the mobile(laptop) gaming space.

MSI has the Claw already.

Sony doesn't own Vaio anymore and Apple would rather push for games to run on iOS and iPadOS than new dedicated hardware.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more companies releasing high end handhelds though.

Sony is very happy with the PS Portal and is working in a successor that will also play native games, and instead of having mobile hardware (ARM) seems it's going to have PC hardware, like the PS5 (AMD).

That's just a Lenovo legion it even has the detachable controls

For me, detachable controllers is almost essential on a handheld. Hopefully more PC handhelds adopt that design because it enhances the comfort of using the console. Ideally the controllers should also have gyro.

An Alienware portable would be something I'd like to see running SteamOS, like the Alienware Alpha they did a few years back (There was a Windows version, but originally was pitched as a Steam machine running Linux). The controller though looks like it was inspired by the Dreamcast pad.

Huh? Nokia is basically only a hardware company at this point (they manufacture networking gear, both wireless and wired). If you're talking about the "Nokia" phones, they're manufactured by HMD who just license the name (and apparently may be dropping the name at least in some regions).

Right, I interpreted that as "they barely make hardware", which is all they do (moderately successfully, but it's a tough market), hence the reply.

Now I always feel limited by the lack of trackpads when I play on my main PC attached to my TV.
