All Lego Dimensions Yr 2 40% off Amazon/Target. What does this mean for the future?

Edit:
Target is having a sale for 40% off all Lego Dimensions products and it likely got applied to the September releases accidentally. Amazon price matched cause that's what they do. I wouldn't take that as a desperation move.

Lego did drop the msrp of the fun packs with the new season to 11.99 but I think that was to put it more in line with Skylanders and Amiibo.

Despite being preorders Amazon is discounting all the Wave 1 Lego Dimensions Year 2 products by 40%. This isn't exclusive to Prime or anything either. It's been like this for almost 2 days. Target also has the discount but not Best Buy or Gamestop.

This thread is two-fold. One, to let people who are interested know the figures are reduced. Two, because what product line gets disocunted 40% off before release?

As someone who buys a ton of Toys to Life stuff I've always been keenly aware of deals. Figures drop soon after release. Toys R Us has a B1G40% sale every other week. I own 90% of all Disney Infinity products released and I paid on average 70% for all of it. Even Amiibo recently can be had for around $6 direct from Amazon.

I often thought of how companies can see these are profitable if stock gets so heavily disocunted quickly? The original Lego Dimensions line is reduced from regular price at Best Buy and is on Clearance at Walmart.

What does it mean when the next line is 40% off before release? It's at the point where these minifigures are cheaper than actual Lego Minifigures despite also having an unlock function in game.

Also making 5 levels based on the Ghostbusters reboot with a MSRP of $50 is something I can't believe actually happened. It's coming months after the movie too. This is one I see dropping the most.

Stuff like this makes me wonder how long Lego Dimensions will continue.

I have not been following Lego Dimensions closely, but I can tell you without equivocation that going 40% of before release is a harbinger of death for any product. That's precisely the time you get full-price conversions, particularly for something in the games industry. This alone tells me that Lego Dimensions or maybe the Toys to Life industry is in some trouble.

Maybe Disney read the tea leaves pretty well when they bailed.

Considering how well regular Lego games are selling usually, Lego Dimensions might not make sense comercially in the first place.

This. This isn't the sky falling; this is simply Target having a sale and it just happens to apply to preorders too.

Basing the main story pack on Girlsbusters kinda kills my enthusiasm for year 2 and im guessing it has for many other people too

They're moving to multiple story packs now. Ghostbusters is the first in September and Legendary Beasts is following it in November with more to come through out the year.

Oh, had no idea. I learned about the Amazon discount first and then checked other retailers.

That explains it but it is kind of unusual in that the 40% mistakenly applied to a preorder and Amazon then price-matched it. It's been days. You think they would have realize the issue.

Oh well. At least people who are interested can know of the discount.

It's good, the prices for Dimensions are a bit much considering the sheer amount there.
To me these should be the regular prices. It does seem that after 2017 we probably aren't going to get much more, unless they rework things.
I do appreciate how this game has stayed with one SKU and everything works with it atm. The Disney infinity and Skylanders always changing what's compatible can be a bit annoying.

Oh I see this is a potential price match mistake. Preordered the Lego Story pack, since I doubt even on sale that'll ever go that cheap. The fun packs and Team packs seem to be the only things that really go on sale.

This sale only applies to some of them though, stuff like Sonic and such isn't on sale right?

Yeah your right. I had assumed by selecting coming soon it would so me all the stuff available for preorder. It shows Wave 1 only.

I didn't realize the had stuff like Sonic which comes out in November available for preorder.

Its the first business day with the mistake for Target and the non discounted November wave is getting a huge preorder bump on Amazon from people hoping it will get discounted somehow. Since sales are common on toys 2 life it makes a lot of sense for amazon to let it ride. Most people who preorder today hoping for a discount will forget to cancel later.

Dont you have to play through all of them to continue the main lego dimensions story though?

No, these are contained and not continuing the Dimensions story. Content wise these could be considered somewhere in between a level pack and full game.

I don't know if they're supposed to be this cheap. Only a few of them are...well, I preordered them just in case. Thanks for the heads up!

O'rly?

:p

But yeah...it hapened a few a months ago with the last wave of Lego Dimensions Tear 1 preorders. Interest has never been as high as the ither, sakes weren'y big either. But WB seems is trying to commit to it and find an audience.

They had two problems that they never fixed:
-Releasing this while still making standalone games (should've given the standalone fames a break in the nean time)...

-Relying to much on nostalgia...and then don't do much with said nostalgia.

On top of misc. and weird choices, like how the game likes to throw puzzles in game that recquire moving around the figures in the base. Kinda cool at first, but stay their welcome.

I ordered all of it. I hope it's good. I got most of the first season of stuff and it's a great "time killer" game and pretty low stress. It helps that I'm really into Lego anyway.

I've had it since February, but I still haven't finished the main story and I'm working my way through every world.

I'd get Sonic, but it's not part of the deal.
Can't imagine the Ghost busters one will be in high demand and the Harry Potter themed one is based off a movie that's not out yet so I'm not sure how that'll pan out

The Harry Potter team pack that's disocunted is Harry Potter and Voldemort.

With as cheap as they are, some of them are worth buying just for the models. If you have interest in the game, all the better. I've wanted a Voldemort mini-fig to go with our Harry Potter sets (we never bought the castle).

We'll also probably get the new ghostbuster's car for Christmas, and we can always have the story pack build to go with it.
