Alleged "Bethesda Environment Designer" leaks TES 6 information. Claims Hammerfell, Sailing, Shipbuilding, Basebuilding, and upgradeable summon

I've never built an outpost in Starfield, limited ship modifications to bare minimum needed for some quests (like hiding contraband).

Looks like another Bethesda game with different priorities than what I expect from an RPG.

They really need to focus on the smaller details - which they still could. I'm talking about being able to walk through a fucking door without a loading screen, improving on the character creator, improving combat and animations, etc.,

There's no sense in adding more stuff for developers to work on when there is existing stuff that can be improved upon. Starfield would have been a much better game overall if the devs had focused on improving the meat of the game instead of trying to shoehorn in pointless space battles, pointless procedural planets and a fucking ship builder.

He says "the setting has orcs and bretons but it is mostly redguards" and "there are no elves [...] other than the evil Altmer faction".

The way he's describing sounds like there are no dark elves, no wood elves and no high elves in TES 6, but that surely can't be the case right? He's an environmental artist so he probably means there are no buildings or tilesets for these races, which makes total sense for Hammerfell of course. Either way sounded weird to me when I read it.

Because they didn't have that in Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3?

Their games started to get worse and worse as they spread attention to unnecessary shit. Well, storytelling and quest design was trending down anyways, but still.
I feel they haven't properly implemented it till yet.

Fallout 4 base building lacked any kind of novelty / cool factor. It was just building and defending makeshift shacks.

Starfield has cool factor and pull. But it doesn't factor into the game economy, at least till yet. So, not very appealing either.

If they are going to put it in, I would like some high level areas that are accessible only if player has good ships / bases.

They can make a lot of cool things with it, but as Todd himself said, Starfield is hardest thing they have ever done. It can be too ambitious for them.

The only issue I have is the "Hammerfell" setting, Hammerfell is %80 desert so it is not a fun setting, maybe they will have Highrock with it as well?

Thats not a small thing, thats changing how their entire engine works.

I don't think that'll be a problem. Per the Cyrodill maps, Skyrim is nothing but snowy mountains either but they managed to sneak in 3, 4 different kind of biomes in that northern landmass.

Shipbuilding? So Elder Scroll's version of Starfield?

If You Say So Wow GIF by Identity

Shipbuilding. I automatically think reskin Starfield.
Different planet, font, enemies, weapons.
Loading screens everywhere.

The issue is they have been regressing in all the other aspects besides this Minecraft shit.

Their character writing is bland, boring and full of DEI shit. Their quest design is meant to be inoffensive and is just in general bad, especially in their main storylines.

Their world building have been also have been declining and getting worse and worse. The games are getting dumber and more mindless basically.

I don't mind the building elements - it's just optional late game content.

People play Elder Scrolls for many hours, and it's easy to become overpowered and have so much gold, gems, gear, etc that it becomes meaningless. The high ticket costs of home building (or ship building) at least give those longterm players reasons to keep on questing for cash.

Assuming it's true, this sounds fantastic. I used to hate the base building idea in fallout 4 but after trying it, it was awesome and I really enjoyed it. I built tones of bases in the game. It had its issues, for sure, but it was a great first try. Never did the ship building in starfield so can't comment on that.

This is different issue, it can be like that regardless.

I think they need to offer same functionality as older games but with easy to find and make builds. Need to have acrobatics, everything else that is missing from Morrowind / Oblivion days. (Not well versed with it).

IMO Skyrim and older games were far too obtuse for a newbie to come and find a fun build. Which is why we see so many complaints about gameplay in their games.

Fallout 4 is in a sense a step in right direction, but it does sacrifice some of that functionality and sense of adventure to give a good loot/ build based experience. Hopefully they can figure out how to not loose those quality while being easy for new players to come on board.

Is dumbing down gameplay really needed though? We have seen Elden Ring sell crazy amount of copies. BG3 is doing very very well.

Even KCD2 is selling well (considering the budget and the game/setting). All these games have somewhat complex gameplay and don't really hold your hand that much (BG3) if at all (ER and KCD2).

Edit: And now I want KCD3 with Dragons and Magic! 😉

I don't believe it's real, but let's entertain the possibility it's real.
Why not? As long as it's not forced upon the player and he can enjoy the setting without engaging in shipbuilding or basebuilding, smithing or other crafting professions.

Is Skyrim REALLY dumbed down though?

I mean, Elden Ring. Pretty straightforward. Figure out a weapon you wanna use. See which stat gives it best scaling. Then keep putting points in that stat. You will have fun, easy.

BG3, again. Use standard party setup. Warrior, tank, mage, rogue. Its fun, without thinking much.

Skyrim, on the other hand… I am a stealth player. So after checking out skill tree, I gravitated towards stealth backstabber, that I later modified to stealth archer. Great fun.

But, I wont be able to make a warrior build that was fun. Not without excessive trial and error. Same goes for magic. There are fun playstyles hidden here and there. But you would be extremely lucky if you just stumbled upon them.

…….

Comparing this to, say Fallout 4 or Starfield. They have much higher chance of finding a good build. Not completely against it.

Though, they should include all functionality, and make builds easy to plan and pull off. Works for me.

I could see this being true.

Two years is about when I think it'll be out anyway as one of the launch or early next gen titles.

I have no doubt it'll be among the greatest games of all times especially modded just like the other Fallout and Elder Scroll games starting from 3 onward.

I know most people don't like the building part but Fallout 4 had settlement building and there's still tons and tons of other cool things to do and more than enough even ignoring the settlement part especially modded.

So I don't really see settlement/ship building as a problem because it'll still be huge and amazing if you ignore it. What would actually effect the game quality would be if they're getting rid of radiant A.I and handcrafted content for normal generic A.I and randomly generated crap like Starfield. Which I highly doubt they will since Elder Scrolls and Fallout starting from 3 is always about the radiant A.I and handcrafted content.

Shipbuilding AND basebuilding? They are really doubling down on the f4/starfield shit uh?!
Yep. The moment a mission in fallout 4 forced me to do this crap and go on a fetch quest to build something to continue the story I checked out completely.

That sounds absolutely horrible.

Nobody wants basebuilding, let alone fucking ship building.

Get it right Bethesda, you clowns.
By putting base building and ship building into the game the can easier sell micro transactions to people buying their game. Today pretty much most companies just want to maximize their profits not make fun games.

I have 100+ hours in Fallout 4, and to me the shittiest part is the FORCED building jank mess.

Starfield only forced it for a hot second, thankfully.

Bethesda, please focus on gameplay, story, immersion and leave your shit jank, basebuilding creation engine nonsense in the dumpster where it belongs. K?!

You would be surprised. Mod support greatly enhanced the experience (just like all Bethesda games).
Im saying they havent made a compelling story or questline since Skyrim. Fallout 4 and Starfield are pretty horrible in the quest and dialogue department. And are mediocre games.

Thats why they need to focus on that instead of basebuilding shit.

That's a fair point, which I agree with. However, they're a big enough studio to expand on scope. The script/story is already likely in place and mostly finalized. If it's already shit, removing X feature isn't going to make the story better.

im in big time. Starfield was my 2nd fav game this gen. Iv only played one other bethesda game prior (skyrim) so most of the stuff was very fresh to me. loved it.

I don't think Skyrim has zero compelling questlines. Instead I think that the questlines don't make you work hard enough for the end result.

Someone brought it up in the Oblivion Remastered OT, compare mages guild vs mages guild quests in each game. Skyrim's is over within 10ish quests, with a very easy entry point (do this one simple spell), can be accessed from the start of the game, and the quests aren't long enough nor involved enough to feel impactful in the way that they should. Oblivion makes you work more for it and has a harder entry point, especially since spells are quite expensive in the game.

There are multiple times in Oblivion where certain quests make you endure the hardships of gameplay and test your combat skills/combat strategy. Whether it's a mazelike tomb filled with ghouls and ghosts, or a castle siege full of daedra, or a basement full of angry conjuration mages. The game consistently says "Hey man, I think you should prepare more for this" without apology.

Why bother with a Bethesda game if that is how you feel?
Because the good Bethesda games weren't like this and after the piece of dogshit that was Starfield compared to its predecessors, one would hope that the studio would've realized where their strenghts as game-makers truly lie and what parts of their games fucking suck.

Am I the only one here that is cool with base building and ship building? I loved it in Fallout 4, would of been even better if more fleshed out.
Give good use of crap you get in dungeons.

I also love survival mode in skyrim. People here hate that too.

Oblvion without mods is boring as it has none of this. I guess if you just want to power through fine, but if you dig rping and living another life, nah...building is essential.

My only gripe, is hammerfell. We alredy had 2 games with Hammerfell. Daggerfall (was in high rock and hammerfall) and redguard.

Why not Summerset isles, Vallenwood, Black Marsh, Elswyer? Places with more unique flarie similar to how Morrowind was.

Well that Good Bethesda is dead, at some point you all have to move on

I think ship building, or some kind of building, was a given. Even people that didnt like Starfield seemed to enjoy the ship building.
