Alright, anything worth checking out in Nagoya?

OK, so I'm here alone at the moment (staying at the Nagoya Marriot Associa above the station). I'll be meeting up with a friend of mine who lives near by either tonight or tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm looking for some things to do...

First, I'll finish up my shopping. Still have like 40000 yen to spend on whatever I want. I did a bit of shopping in the other cities, but I was busy with other things and didn't have much time. Anyone know of some decent game shops around here? :p How much is the PS2 running over here? I'll need a Japanese PS2 soon enough, so I figure I'll do it now (the Grandia 3 commercial convinced me that I need it upon release ;P).

Beyond that, is there anything else worth checking out? Any GAF'ers nearby? Any suggestions would rock as I'm finally done with all work. I've got tons of time...

Nice view from the window, though (ultra downsized pic)...

Decent gameshops? There's a few in relative distance to Ozone and there's a few in Kurokawa but there isn't that many within a close distance of each other. There might be a few in the major business district (I can't remember the name all of a sudden). There's a lot of pretty good bookstores that I ran into though. :lol.

As far as I know, there aren't any GAFer's living in Nagoya. I was in Nagoya for a month last summer with family but I really was the only person in the city.

I lived just outside Nagoya for six months (in Kasugai) and was definitely not bored on the weekends. There are castles nearby, a ninja museum (!!) in iga-ueno, zoo and botanical gardens, aquarium, and a pretty cool undeground mall in the middle of the city. Hop a train to Sakae station and walk around the Oasis 21 (and marvel at its beautiful architecture!) and shop or eat or whatever. There's a tourism kiosk on the ground floor that has guides in English if you need some, and tons of good shops and restaurants.

There's a big Eden electronics store within walking distance of Nagoya station (I think) and a bunch of smaller secondhand shops around Kasugai with dirt cheap games if you don't mind a little train or bus ride. There's a great strip of stores near the school I studied at, just take the subway to Ozone station and transfer to the JR towards Kouzouji station.

Nagoya was perfect for me; not as slow and rustic as Kyoto, but not as fast-paced as Tokyo. Have fun and don't spend too much!

edit: I guess this really all depends on how long you're staying. :(

Yeah, I think I found what you are talking about...

I'll probably head out in a few here, just needed a break after the long train ride. I'm not too worried about losing my way here, thankfully. I've had little trouble with the language (thankfully, as this was the first time I've really had to put it to the test) and have been able to handle most signs just fine.

Well, time to explore...

Nagoya? Why don't you go to the Expo?

Oh yeah, I heard some people talking about that on the train (the Expo 2005). Good thought.

Whelp, just got back from the first shopping trip. I did indeed grab one of these...

...along with a couple games (Radiata Stories and Drag-On Dragoon 2 -- yes, I enjoyed the first one). I grabbed RS used (wait, it's Tri-Ace...there's probably mass bugs in there) and was suprised at how good the condition was. The guy at the counter asked me if I would like a used copy for a lower price, and since I wasn't at Gamestop or something, I took a look and was shocked at the condition. Really, though, I'm most excited for Grandia III. Can't wait. :p

My friend Rika should be showing up downstairs sometime after 6:00. Gotta get ready for that. She should be able to give me a better tour of the place. Honestly, though, I enjoyed the calmer atmosphere of this city. Nice place thus far...

It's a fabulous city to hang out in. It's just busy and quiet enough to not drive you insane. Nagoya station is AWESOME for just sitting around and watching people go about their business. As I pointed out, it's busy enough to be worthwhile but not so much that you're overwhelmed by it.

If you remember my thread ages ago and some of the advice dispensed by the other GAFer's in Japan, ALWAYS buy used games in Japan. They're like brand new and so much cheaper, it's not funny. All the discs I bought in Japan and got to check out were in perfect condition.

Oh and RS doesn't have any bugs as I recall =P.
