Hello. I got a Radeon x800 for my computer a while back. Only problem is, it's not performing too well. I'm getting 70 fps in Counter-Strike, and sometimes it even dips to 40 and 30 fps. That's just in Counter-Strike people! When I played that game a while back with my Radeon 8500, I got a solid 100 fps.

Tribes: Vengeance, Doom III... they all take huge dips in FPS. There's gotta be something wrong

Now, I have updated to the latest ATi Drivers. My hardware is all clean, and I installed the video card correctly.

Currently, I'm running:

Radeon x800 PRO
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
1 gig Dual Channel DDR

What's going on, guys?

Perhaps your driver update wasn't clean?

Pretty sure my driver installs were all clean. I updated my chipset drivers too....

I'm running out of ideas.

Well, if it was just Counter-Strike, I'd know exactly what's wrong. ATI took out TruForm in newer Radeons and I think the 8500 was the last ATI card that had full TruForm support on the card. In some driver installs, it's enabled by default so people with 8500 won't see a dip whereas newer cards will because the CPU has to do more work that the 8500 would do in hardware.

I don't think newer games use TruForm but it's work checking for in your drivers and make sure it's off.

I should have also mentioned that I'm getting bad FPS in:

Tribes: Vengeance
Command and Conquer: Generals
Doom III

Generals is a real kick to the head for me though... because I remember getting really good FPS with my 8500 back when I used to play the game extensively on the very same computer I'm using now. Now it seems like my FPS in Generals is like at 31 fps...

Hmm I was afraid someone would suggest that. I'm open to the idea since I have enough time to do that this weekend, but I don't have my Windows XP cd or cd key with me. It's at my dads house.

Maybe the download file was corrupted when you downloaded your videocard.
