YouTube is Getting Worse

It's honestly the most no-brainer streaming service to pay for. I've gotten way more value out of it than Netflix or HBO Max or Disney+ or whatever.
This.

I can't go back now. Across the board no ads on any device I'm logged into, downloading videos, and of course Youtube Music, which is VASTLY underrated. Oh and it benefits channels you watch.

Yeah its stupidly annoying watching a video that gets hit by a new ad every 3 minutes

And what i dont understand is sometimes even my little animated shorts will have an ad, I'm not even an affiliate yet!

I like starting a video, having to sit through a 20 second ad, skipping through the first 30 seconds of the video intro bs and then let it play only to be introduced to another ad, sometimes 60 seconds or more... I'll never sub to this, they don't need it! Fuck em. They are making bank, they don't need to sour the experience just to frustrate you enough to subscribe, but they are. I used to sit through the ads on my ps5 but now, I use a laptop on my TV. It was fine a year ago, now it's obvious they are only making it exhausting to use with all the ads just to get you to subscribe.

I can appreciate that the team "fighting for justice" (really just fighting for clicks while playing the heroes) made this video. But gamers nexus is part of the very content machine they claim to criticize. They've fully embraced the algorithm driven decay of the platform when it benefits them. They've capitalized on it so effectively they launched an entire subchannel dedicated to "injustice," and this video is just another installment. Where they once offered more balanced, technical analysis, their content now feels like a constant crusade on both their main and side channels. You can predict exactly where a video is headed just by glancing at the thumbnail. Why? Because it garners clicks. Regardless of how solid their analysis may still be, the formula has become tiring, even rote. But hey, it works, just look at their subscriber count.

I felt so defeated when I finally gave in and started paying for Premium 2, 3 years ago. But that feeling was immediately remedied by not wanting to constantly chuck my laptop through the window as I was no longer drowning in fucking ads.

Just pay for the service like an adult (or jump through all the hoops that you like to get around them).

Firefox + uBlock Origin.

Has worked for me all the time.

If you use Linux, there is a Media Player you can download called QMPlay2 and it comes with YouTube search built in.

You can watch any videos AND you can download them if you want. The only thing you don't have is access to the YouTube stuff where you can save it and see recommended stuff, but if you know what you're searching, it's the best thing next to no ads and no stupid shorts taking up 90% of the results. You can also create your own playlist from the YouTube videos you search and want in the playlist, so there's that too. So if you use Linux, I DEFINITELY recommend it. It says it's available on Windows too, but I could never get the YouTube to work for some reason even after installing youtube-dl and ffmpeg, so I can't help there.

This is slightly OT, but I noticed youtube auto changed the audio language in some videos. What a horrible feature... what the fuck do you care about my browser (and native) language? I understand English very well and I want to watch the original video, not some AI dubbing/description or whatever.

It happened to me too. It sounds so extremely artificial. You can certainly switch it off somewhere.

You can after clicking on the settings wheel icon, it just annoys me they're pushing this feature.

I wonder if youtube creators have a say in this or are all of their new videos automatically 'translated' once they get uploaded.

Firefox and Ublock works but there's this annoying loading before most videos start playing.

Still, a loading screen if much less annoying than an ad. So i'll take it.

I subscribed to YT Premium years ago, when the ad situation was not nearly as bad, and thought the value was there. No ads, included movies, YT music (wildly underrated service), etc.

I don't watch as much as I used to and may cancel but I would rather pay than do all the nonsense that some in this thread are doing. Any blocking you have now is short term at best.

Edge with ublock origin is not complicated or time consuming in the slightest. There was a bit there when it was removed from chrome extensions but, I haven't bothered with it other than to turn it off for some sites since i switched to edge. At least on my laptop. Good for more than just youtube as well.

I recently started a 3 month free trial of youtube premium. The offer popped up and I said why not.

I fully intend on continuing as I had before once the 3 months are up - which means saying goodbye to the TV/PS5/etc apps and using my mac mini with adblocker hooked up to the TV. Slightly less convenient than the apps, but worth it to not deal with the increasingly obnoxious ads.

What do i have to do so that youtube doesn't try to traduce in italian every goddamn video title?

I haven't watched italian content in 20 years and these fuckers and their ai can't even recognize that :lollipop_squinting:

Check your YouTube language settings and your browser's language settings. It might be set to Italian and Youtube just thinks you want to translate it.

I mean, what if i want the interface in italian but not the video title traduction? this is a new thing, one year ago it wasn't like that and i haven't changed any setting...

I dropped spotify years ago when they offered youtube music with youtube premium together.

Premium is the best answer that no one wants to hear.
Youtube Premium is just them charging you so you can watch content they havent produced without ads?

In other subscription services at least they spend billions in content. But Youtube just hosts content made by others. + more ads than any other subscription service that I know.

Hopefuly some other platform will arise to compete against Youtube. I know its hard, but if Facebook lost popularity to other social media apps, than Youtube can fall eventualy.

There are plenty of alternatives that suffice but obviously aren't nearly as big. However, Rumble is making large gains and pretty big in its own right.

I personally like Odysee the best though, feels like 2006 YouTube.

With all the people getting monetized, where do they expect the money to come from? Of course there are going to be more ads. They aren't going to take a loss....

The ads have nearly doubled. It sucks when I'm on IOS

How does one fight the ads on YouTube for iPhone?
Sideload YTliteplus, been using it for two weeks without any issues. You dont need to jailbreak your phone.
Has all premium features and more. Just disable dislikes, that can cause crashes.
After install you need to refresh the app every week using the pc/laptop with the server installed on it, but that takes 5 seconds.

I pay for premium as it's pretty much all I watch on my TV.. and my shop uses youtube music via casting to a speaker group (works so nicely with mounted nest home speakers down the hall)
It's pricey and I think they charge way too much for it.. but I still pay it.

Poor Google, how will they survive? I think a lot of people wouldn't have a such a problem with ads if they weren't so aggressive. Youtube is pretty much unusable without an adblocker, unless you want to relive the days of watching tv and having your favorite program interrupted in the worst moment by a long ad segment.

Yes, preach. Hosting contents are free. Those bandwiths and storages need no money
