Are any of you guys old-fashioned, romantic, not freakily obsessed with sexuality when it comes to girls? I enjoyed single life, I can cope with, but I enjoy way much more being in a couple. And with girls nowadays, and what they expect, I'm less confident I will find my match, but however, I'm sure I am a good guy, with good looks, good heart, altruism, having a genuine interest in other people, and in his girlfriend. It seems that most any girl have become superficial, materialistic, and lost most any innocence. Am I the exception to the rule as for me looking for the contrary of such traits, and being old-fashioned, romantic, and intellectual, while loathing superficiality? It seems society has become depraved and pernicious to no end. Are you all pervs looking for a quick lay? Say it ain't so! ;)

Uni girls piss me off... everything is so damn DRAMATIC. Watching my roomate deal with all his girlfriend/ex-girlfriend drama has seriously turned me off to the whole damn idea. Why deal with that shit? Single life ignorance is bliss.

I am not feeling sorry for myself, just trying to put up a brave face after all this, trying to find out what things I do right and wrong.

And you all owe me a bottle of Opticrom. You couldn't know, but that running gag I find it fucking sadistic.

Zelda-Bitch has a point, misguided as it may be. This is the west, we as men simply cannot be weak or seen as weak in any way. It is as simple as that. It is probably best you let this kind of thing out on the internet, but NEVER tell any girl anything like this. You might think that by opening up she might see the sensitivity and heart inside of you. That is crap. She won't. She will see weakness and instantly be turned off. To be a man is to not show weakness as much as it might screw you up. Success isn't about being good and living healthy. Success is about doing everything that can put you ahead of the next guy.

I'm not doing things like you say when I talk with girls at all, I do it my way.

And I was mainly asking a question. Because I cannot do pretty much anything right now besides thinking.

Repeat the question.

I am a guy with peculiar traits and attemps toward girls that may or may not be viewed as whiney or dramatic, but I deem myself sensible and charming. I described how it was. I wondered if I was the sole one on GAF looking for such traits in a girl, because I find most people to be pernicious and not romantic, which I like, and try to achieve.

Maybe no one noticed, but I never talked about the future. I am currently seeing all turquoise and everything blue flickers and burns my retinas. It is just my own dumb self however. But it still hurts.

I did not wanted to bring that up, but here is why some things appear strange to y'all. Of course, avoid my war and piece-like first posts, then maybe you can understand me more, if you care or just dare, that is.

I'm sorry dude, I'm not trying to be a prick. Your post is a whine fest full of cry's for pity though, and it's obvious your in a pathetic state and feeling sorry for yourself. Do yourself a favor and stop stressing over this shit. Your a young buck. Go enjoy life and things will happen for you. Women can see right through insecurity. The way you carry yourself can make or break you in relationship land.

Millions of women out there. Monogamy is a sin. Get the fuck over it, and approach the next cute girl you see. PEACE.

Strap on your hooker ...
I can relate.

My last GF was much like your described what your taste is; intelligent, individualistic, non-materialistic. She had a broad sense of tastes and could enjoy stupid jokes just as much as heady independent film. Cute as a button, too. Then she left. I don't feel like I'll ever find anyone like that again, she was the pinnacle of everything I wanted, whose features are sorely lacking in other girls, which is even more apparent after spending 2 years with her. I don't even feel like looking anymore, it seems like it's all downhill from her. Quite the catch 22; getting exactly what you want is great, but if you ever lose it, you may never be satisfied again, as everything pales in comparison.

I think I understand where you're coming from Jotaro. Finding an attractive, intellectual, cultured, video game-loving women isn't an impossibility, but it's definitely not easy. I think you need to look at where you're looking for them, though. It seems to me you're most likely to find this type in a university setting. There are plenty of intelligent, well-read women there, but it seems to me that they get much harder to find in the "real world" once you graduate. I'm sure there are other places, but you might give that some thought. If you're looking for a certain kind of woman, you've gotta start looking in the right places, i.e., she probably won't be hanging out alone in a bar (though maybe), and she's definitely not going to come looking for you. You'll have to find her, most likely.

I also think you need to think about exactly what you're looking for in a woman. If your woman has to be a genius, an art critic, a poet, a movie buff, an anime fan and a gamer, you might be waiting a long time. Decide what's most important to you, and be realistic on the rest. You're going to have to make some compromises, as will she. And no one is going to be your ex-girlfriend; don't ever make the mistake of comparing them. People sometimes get overly-romanticized notions of how good things "were". Don't stay in that mindset.

Get out there and make it happen! Good luck! :)

I'm wondering how long it's been since you broke up. I read only halfway through sorry.. and I felt the same way towards my first serious girlfriend but after 6 months or so I felt a lot better.

YEAAAH so my mom came over and gave me chocolates. KNOW WHAT? They're not healthy for me. So yeah I told her they're not healthy for me. But mom's like KEEP'EM. So we argued over that for a while or so. I eventually kept the chocolates. So yeah anyway I went to sleep....

Maybe if you're going to an Ivy league school or something, but just about everyone goes to college now a days and still only a very few will fit into Jotaro's narrow view of a good woman.

"Now a days", colluj boy. :D

I agree he's got a bit of an unrealistic view, which is why I added the next paragraph to my original statement. There are women like that out there though; I married one. :) You're right though, you probably won't find them at Burger King very often.

I think the major problem that you're facing is your romanticized concept of the "perfect girl" is making you far too idealistic in your expectations. Instead of focusing on particular interests that you would like for your "dream girl" to relate to you on, look for a girl with the same GENERAL interests as yourself. When you love someone and can relate to them on a general spectrum, you find your differences cute or funny rather than a deterrence and eventually learn to pick out what the other person would like. The same can be said for any girl you may happen to meet who doesn't carry the same interests as you. If you relate on a general mindset, nothing else really matters and you can find common ground in just about anything. Getting to know or experience each other's interests is the most fun part of a relationship and who knows, you may end up creating a new fan or becoming one yourself. If anything, you won’t be short in experiencing or being introduced to new forms of entertainment or interest.

As for actually meeting a girl with a general mindset, you mention that you want a girl who is "literary" and intelligent. I would think that college would be the best place for you to meet a girl like that; especially since there are so many appreciation clubs. If not, why don't you look into local groups or institutions of interest? Join Menza, join the local literary appreciation club, go to museums and artistic expositions, maybe even become involved as a volunteer in localized partisan politics, etc. Obviously, you’re focused on improving yourself and have the confidence to pursue what you want; your problem is that you need to get out there and look in the right places.

You dont work out much do you? I dont mean it as rip, I barely do it much myself with my illness but I do force myself to do heartrate pumping excerise when I get quite down in dumps, it makes a world of difference even if I pay for it several weeks after. You improve so much mentally from it. Being couped up in one building, like in jail cell dont help either with that job. Believe me I know being disabled and homebound. Mandatory vacation perhaps is in order as well. I dont know where you live but something exotic(mountains, sea caves, beachs, skydiving lessons) yet cheap to get some perspective on the world you lost. Visiting forums here cant help much either when most of the posts are about negative and bleak things that happen in world as we forget there is still alot beauty as well out there. Just my thoughts, it seems like your dead inside already, so you need think about it some and do something. Nothing wrong with talking with someone too if you can afford it.

Exactly.
All you guys ragging on Jotaro should go ahead and read some of his other posts.
I'm not gonna get into it, because it's complex and I don't think he wants people to know him by it, but the guy's been through A LOT - but still comes off as a nice guy.

Pricks. Especially Zelda-Bitch...you'd really wanna edit your post if you read his previous long thread.

With that said, I don't think there's anything wrong with being 'old fashioned'.
Personally, I'm the type of guy that would find a cute girl in a library much more attractive than some hottie in a club.

Jotaro, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Try to remember the good times you had with your gf. Be happy for her. You are still young. And when things get better, I'm sure happiness will find you as well.

Maybe, but Manabanana's response is the and out and out leader for response of the year and you have to admit you roll the dice when you post your innermost thoughts on gaming-age. I think it is the perfect ad for match.com
