Am I the only person who likes Dave Matthews Band?

Honestly, I really enjoy the music, from Mr. Matthews himself or the band in its entirety. I know I'm not alone, but I'm losing trust points in my musical taste right here and now by saying that IT IS GOOD MUSIC.

I don't understand how so many people dislike the music, and especially his voice. About every song has it's own unique and fine beat, and if you can stomach Neutral Milk Hotel's vocals then I'm certain DMB is like fucking in cotton candy. I have to be right about some of this, it's not entirely WRENCHING to listen to

I hear there are DMB fan clubs at most colleges and universities

They usually have Greek letters as their names for whatever reason

A lot of geeky bookworm chicks dig DMB. I personally think the "BAND" is pretty great stuff. Dave Matthews himself cang et grating. He did a great job on the Joyful Girl cover with Soulive, though.

I assume you mean on the board...

I enjoy the occasional listen to Where Are You Going and Jimi Thing. They have a few live jam tracks that I really enjoy too. Their cover of Cortez the Killer on the Central Park disc was weak though, Built to Spill still does the ultimate version.

I liked Under the Table and Crash but I haven't listened to the others. The singles from those albums just didn't draw me in.

Willing to get bashed for this, but "Before These Crowded Streets" is one of my all time favorite albums.
+1

I love that album. I really don't care what others thing of my musical tastes. I listen to all kinds of music. I dig Dave Matthews Band though, for the most part. I wasn't terribly fond of Busted Stuff, but they're still probably one of my favorite modern bands.

I love several of DMB's songs. "Crash" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Great sound, right up there with Purple Rain, imo.

Haters can die. :D

Glad to see the love for BTCS. I just think it has such a nice diverse sound and with all the little vignettes in between tracks it also has some of the best flow of any album I've heard.

I wish. Instead I'm subjected to it every time I go to work. Yea yea, I know that if I played my music there would be haters there as well, but seriously, fuck Dave Matthews.

I think they're good and even better live. I can see how people could hate dave because he does not have the classical "good" singing voice. But I think thats why I like DMB. Sometimes its the imperfections that make things great. If they did the same tunes with a better singer something would be lost.

I personally like them, but I can't listem to them anymore. I feel like I'm being too normal, but you know, that's only because I'm supposed to be jaded in college, right? Well, I can still enjoy the thought of DM. If given a beer and some time I guess I could listen and enjoy. It's just that all my friends hate on what's popular nowdays--because it's easy to be jaded instead of just going with the moment.

However, I like DM even more because I've heard "The Space Between" mixed into an awesome dj dance set during a breakdown section of the mix, and man was it ever one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

I'll ask my positive, non-jaded friends what mix it is and get back with you.

Thank you, I'd like to hear it.

He used to play frat houses back when I was in college. Remember Two Things was his big album on campus then... A major hometown hero back in VA before he got nationally popular.

I never cared too much for his tunes then and they even annoyed me, but now I kind of dig hearing his old stuff because it reminds me of my good old college keg party days. Isn't that funny? The early live versions of Tripping Billies, Ants Marching, Satellite, etc. I even saw him in concert in Roanoke, VA back in 1996 because a friend of mine had tickets and had just broken up with his girlfriend. Good show, I recall Dave implied that he was tripping on acid onstage.

They took a little getting used to but I really enjoy them now. Great lyrics, rythm. I think they're amazingly talented and like a lot of their stuff.

Under the Table and Dreaming > Before These Crowded Streets > everything else

Those two CDs are fucking great. Under the Table is in my top 10 cds ever.

I think they've kinda slown down recently, but I like 'em a lot.

I love Atreyu and DMB. I have some odd tastes in music.

You didn't just compare Dave Matthew's and Jeff Mangum's vocals, did you? I might have to pay a guy from Jersey to come break your thumbs.

I don't even care that much about Jeff Mangum anymore, and I was still insulted.

Same here. The second half of the album, from Halloween onward, especially. Just incredible.
