I can see the potential as an add-on, but like said above, I see absolutely no possibility in having this integrated. If a company wants to make a phone that can survive impacts, they just make a more durable phone, not add vaguely Rube Goldberg stuff like this.

What we need is anti-gravity so every fragile device will just stop abruptly before it hits the floor. Oh, and it could be good for other things too.

Physics. Learn it.

the force a phone will generate falling to the ground is larger than the force you apply just holding it. Pretnding to throw it to the ground won't do much, because eventually you will decelerate.

Haha, what? You realize that for this work before your phone hits the ground, the "system" would have to deploy almost immediately after it senses an acceleration force above a certain threshold. How hard do you think it would be for a human arm to create a similar force on a tiny ass phone for a split second?

Unless of course you're talking about airbags that deploy after your phone hits the ground, which is useless and is not what's being proposed here.

Eventually, a phone falling to the ground will decelerate too.

Sounds like a great idea.

The packaging still won't prevent what happens when a UPS fork lift crushes the phone during mail sorting.

On a serious note, more power to Amazon.

Guys guys. I just "invented" phone wings! When you drop you phone, it flies back to a predesignated GPS location! Patent office here I come!

Also hover boards...
