Amazon DD Sales Thread

I checked and it seems like Crusader Kings II is activatable on Steam if you buy it anywhere but GamersGate.

Maybe Tony could give us some confirmation on the matter. In the system requirements part of the amazon page it used to say it required Steam but I just looked now and it's not there anymore.

I'm thinking about getting the Dragon Age Pack, but what is this Bioware activation bullshit?

Btw, is there any chance they'll release a Dragon Age 2 Ultimate Edition? I don't want to buy half baked games.

Crysis 2 100% sold for that price. Thinking about The Saboteur after reading some of the praise in this thread. I feel like I'm at a buffet, and can't decide what to get.

I'm new to pc gaming, but why is it a big deal if a game like LA Noire doesn't activate on steam? Sorry if it is an obvious question. I ask because I was thinking about grabbing it.

People like to have it listed in their Steam library for organizational purposes, Steam Achievements, sometimes Steamworks games also have cloud saves and community features. It's a more streamlined experience.

Ah ok, not a big deal for me then. For multiplayer games it would seem much more important.

Most of us prefer having our games on 1 library instead of having a Steam, Amazon, D2D, Origin, GFWL, and GMG library. Plus Steam has better features than the rest of those.

I'm contemplating buying Saboteur though since I read it does register to Origin. I'm pretty sure my crummy laptop Origin machine is strong enough to play it.

STILL can't buy Saboteur. When I try I get:

You have an order for this product in process. For your protection we are performing security checks which may take up to 4 hours.

It's been over four hours now, and when I check my order history and it's not in there.

Trust me, once you use Steam it's kind of a pain to go back to using something like Origin. Sure, it's serviceable to a degree but Steam has a smaller memory footprint and just looks better and has better features. I still have Steam launch even my games on Origin.

Well sure, gonna use steam for the most part, I guess I haven't developed any real attachment to the service yet. Only game I've gotten so far is Star Trek Online lol

I'm sure I will though.

Wait for your first mega sale, the summer one in this case. Those sales are glorious for people with small libraries.

And if Amazon does anything like what they did during the last bit Steam mega sale during Christmas, we are in for more huge discounts and special deals.

I sure hope we get those $5 off coupons with every digital purchase from Amazon combined with the month after special discount deals again. I had five of them...it it it was glorious.

Yeah, you will spend $100 on the summer sale easily and end up with 25+ games

Right now I don't believe that. Just looking at the steam library is very different from consoles. Lots of series and genres I currently know nothing about. Gonna be a weird transition, though I will still play console games.

I was planning on getting Witcher 2 for 360, but I guess I can get it for PC now, I don't really care which I just want to play it.

So young... so innocent. You'll see. You'll know.

When you start seeing this AAA game for $4 and that AAA game for $7, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Games rendered at 1080p vs. Games rendered at 720p (or less) is a sledgehammer upside the head.

The "comfy couch" issue is real, though. Competitive shooters and stuff that doesn't support a pad like Bioware RPGs I buy on 360 despite the HUGE downgrade in graphical fidelity. I just hate sitting at a desk to game.

Going to pick up:

The Darkness II (that price is too good)
Crysis 2 (don't care that it's on Origin)

Thinking of picking up:

Kingdoms of Amalur
Syndicate

But I need to look at some impressions first, especially on the latter.

One of my first purchases is going to be The Last Remnant (still 50 dollars, urg) and I am so looking forward to playing it on the couch with my tv and I am so looking forward to a stable framerate and extra content.

I feel we are getting offtopic, and it's my fault. So how about that DA deal! (I'll pass)

I do comfy couch+Dragon Age. It's both possible and comfortable! You just need the bigger font mod to make the text readable.

I played through Syndicate. I would not recommend getting it at that price. It's not a terrible game but it's not very good either, so I'd say get it when it's very cheap.

Yeah, i believed the steam thread guys were full of it, everybody who said "no steam, no deal" was nuts.
200 Steam games later...THEY WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG.
Do yourself a favor, when steam sales roll around send your wallet away per mail and have somebody change the passwords for your bank account. Don't become ONE OF US ONE OF US.

The fact that amazon undercuts even steam nowadays...Lord have mercy. Darkness II or SpaceMarine hmmm.

I don't really know where else to ask this since this isn't a steam game question, but how is the saboteur on PC? Does it have pad support and is it not a complete joke of a port?

Lol I'm also up around the 200 game mark now! Since the Christmas sale I was thinking that I hadn't bought many games at Steam lately and then BOOM they hit me with a Trine 2 sale.

Thanks. I was thinking it may be a bit too pricey even at that price but thought the experience would be worth it.

Can't buy Saboteur. I just get an error when I try to complete the transaction, and when I check my order history like it tells me to it isn't there. I even went ahead and tried to make a 'duplicate' order for one that was never placed, but just get the same error. Guess I'll have to try again later.

Dude I'm sorry you're having this issue, this happens to me sometimes as well due to the weird frequency of my purchases. It should absolutely be resolved today, and if it isn't please reach out via PM.

Does crysis 2 activate on steam?

No, it does activate through Origin if you want to add it to your library there.

The amazon page says it requires Steam so yeah I guess it does.

edit: Well it used to say it required Steam. I can't seem to find it anymore.

:lol

The game's not even on Steam anymore.

It works. I bought a copy and was able to activate it on Steam.

Crusader Kings II activates on steam? Is the OP right? I didn't think Paradox has had Steam activation for any of their games.

Yes it does activate on Steam, I just checked the detail page on the back end and it is showing the Steam messaging, however when it renders for customers it isn't working. We've filed an escalated ticket for a dev to look at this. In the meantime YES Crusader Kings II does activate on Steam".

So is everything in the OP on sale through 4/15 or just LA Noir and GTAIV?

Everything is on sale through 4/15 except Crusader Kings II, Defenders of Ardania and King Arthur II, those are only on sale through 4/8.

Amazing fucking sale. Got the Dragon Age pack and am gifting the Ultimate edition to a friend and keeping DA2 and also picked up Crysis 2. Best of all? Had some game credits so got each for around 3.50 a piece. Sweet Lord you're killing it with the deals Amazon. You're my new Steam! :)

:) Thanks we're trying hard.

Please let me know if I missed anyone's questions or comments guys, been slammed getting this thing up and running.

Cheers,
Tony

It's a decent but no-frills port, if you have an Nvidia card. It's janked on ATI cards. Gamepad works well, if I remember correctly.

Yeah I do have nvidia, that's good to hear though. I don't need a super fancy PC port, just one that works really well with pad support. I only rented the game on consoles but I remember it being pretty solid fun.

edit: Thanks for adding even more confirmation to Crusader Kings Tony!

my current comparison is 1080p 3d 60 fps vs 720p (usually less)

between 5-10% of my gaming is on consoles and i own all consoles.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping to download it before work, but I'll have more time to play it on the weekend anyway.

that can get me

La Noire
Crisis 2
Dragon Age Pack
The Saboteur

wow

You see? :)

You will find a similar type experience during the Steam Mega sales, except for large portions of their entire product library, and combined with incredibly cheap daily deals. The value you get for the hugely decreased prices is pretty wild. Hopefully Amazon plays against this again by offering competing sales/coupons. Creates a perfect storm of gaming sales.

I heard there might've been a beta patch to fix ATI cards before Pandemic was shut down; are you using that?

No, I just downloaded it through Origin. There's an exe to set your video settings. I just used that and it works fine. Forcing AA prevents me from getting 60fps, though.

Good god what a pile of shit in that Amazon sale after the first page.. lol. I guess there's 1 or 2 good titles on page 2 as well.. but man.

Yea really. Don't even bother going to page 2+, honestly.

All the deals are on page 1, then filler so they can say 'zomg 150+ sales'.

Is Mount and Blade: Warband unavailable now? Can't buy it..

There is some messaging on the page that is legacy from when we carried steam keys/builds for this game that our dev team is having trouble un-hard coding off the page. Once we get it off I'll put it back up for sale.

FYI we don't do things like "add fillers so we can say ZOMG 150+ sales" its actually a lot easier for us to craft a shorter marketing message around a smaller list of tittles. The expanded format of this sale comes as a direct result of over 500 emails/PMs/requests I've personally received on individuals on forums like this, CAG and Reddit asking that we provide some promotional activity around our smaller publishers...like the ones you're referencing. We're really trying to build a community and listen to our customers when they provide us with ideas.

Sorry that not all of the deals are for you, I did, however, make a concerted effort to call out the deals that appeal to the broadest audience by placing them prominently on the deal landing page, calling them out in all of the outbound communication (like what you see in the OP), and continually making them the showcase for the event.

Happy to answer any questions I can regarding how and why we structure the promotions the way we do. Feel free to reach out with further questions.

Cheers,
Tony
