Did Tolkien ever have anything resembling sex scenes in any of his Middle-Earth stories? What does cheap sex add to this world? Let's not kid ourselves and pretend this stuff is going to have any sort of depth. Tolkien would be embarrassed with what they want to do to his work I'm sure.

My guess is they don't really have many good stories and will need to pad the show with more relationship drama then actually LOTR lore etc. You said it right. The depth will be very low.

I'm a big Tolkien fan (even read the Silmarillion) but personally I don't mind them adding more relationships/realistic dialogue, so the stories seem more "human". The books are rather dry.

If that is what you are looking for okay. While I cannot say for sure it just seems like relationship drama will be the core focus of the show. Relationship drama in middle earth with probably a light over story that is in line with LOTR but is stretched out over 4-5 seasons.

But that is not why I like LOTR. I like LOTR because it provides something different from that in a great way. It focuses on the epic fantasy.

Sucks that GOT and HBO style of showmaking seems to be influencing this so hard. Amazon’s original efforts in TV, movies, and games have been so disappointing. They really should get out of the creative business, I’m starting to think.

my LOTR knowledge isn't all that good, but isn't there basically only 2~3 important female roles? the 2 elf ladies and 1 human one (the princess from Rohan?). out of those, only Aragorn and Arwen seem possible on the sex. you might be able to do a Galadriel (non-sexual) nude scene with that whole "test" thing? outside of that, I honestly can't think of adding anything without screwing up the story somehow...

Kind of lame. While I have no problems with t and a, it feels out of place in the Tolkien world. In Game of Thrones, it always felt forced.
Regarding Game of Thrones, you must not have read the books. They got really explicit, even gross at times.

I'm not a prude but sex has its place in appropriate mediums. This isn't one of them. I actually thought the sex scenes cheapened Game of Thrones, was strong enough program to be without it.
