This. The production values are way to high and so the shitty overdubs are really jarring and the whole premise fails. I don't really understand how they missed the point of their own joke. I guess its just the trailer, but everyone should probably just watch Darkplace instead.
You're clearly overcomplicating things and coming off as quite foolish. They honestly don't have to technically lower the quality of a video to give it the the illusion that it came from a worn VHS copy. Jesus, next you'll be saying that it's not possible for black and white video to exist on Amazon because the technology is too new.

I don't know. This seems like a stretch. If the actual fake show doesn't look shitty like something like this should, then there's nothing to laugh at but foreigners and self-aware 80s jokes.
It looks more polished and modern than a US show like this would have been in 1983, let alone a Romanian show.
Please tell me why Darkplace is still not available to stream or buy in the US.

This show really hits its stride halfway through the first episode as soon as they get to the American embassy.
It really isn't as screwball, or subversive, as the trailer suggests, and the criticisms that it doesn't look like an 80s show are warranted. It's filmed like a modern film, but you get used to it.
It's a really good and fun procedural cop show with a surprising amount of drama sprinkled on it.

The fact that every episode is actually shot in Romania is amazing.
Hellraiser: Deader and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance were also shot in Romania.
I love the jokes it makes about US and Romanian culture. Romanian polie are the best in the world, who they criticise for being too damn efficient, they torture cos it works, only the guilty run, and the shit talking about Trump. A friend of mine described it as White Black Dynamite. WHich ain't far off

The dubbing is part of the joke. Probably.
Probably, but it was just too much for me. Also the fact that JGL and Channing Tatum weren't really doing any voice "acting" as opposed to just using their real voices didn't help either.
