Eh, I've been with Nvidia for the last year, but for the 3 years preceding that I was with AMD and I didn't have a single problem. The two GPU players are pretty much on par now, any problems are really just anecdotal.

Oh, so you've not had any problems then it means there are no problems full stop?

It's fine you've not had any issues but people need to stop this complete brushing aside of any issues. I've had nothing but problems whenever I used AMD, even experienced problems lately and apparently a lot of people using AMD has had some sort of significant issue that leaves them an opinion on the drivers or AMD themselves. The countless number of people I've seen use the "Used AMD once upon a time, never again". No, that's not saying Nvidia are flawless but some of the issues I've had with AMD have had a more critical impact on the games. When I had Crossfire it was the pinnacle in me going console exclusive for years because the experience was so bad.

I haven't really had many problems with AMD driver-wise, but I'll probably never buy a card from them again. I've been with AMD for the past 5 years too, starting with the 5870, 5970, 6970, now 7970. It just seems like you always have to jump through so many hoops to get AA working in certain games, whereas it's much easier on the Nvidia side.

In regards to compatibility issues, AMD is good about getting those fixed up quickly, but then again - Nvidia almost never has day one issues. Seems like the extra premium you pay for a Nvidia card is well worth it.

New drivers are causing Dishonoured to instantly crash on level-load.

Oh yeah now I remember why I didn't update my drivers for like 2 years after finding some that worked and were stable for everything.

I knew those BF3 improvements would be too good. The always are with AMD.

Another driver update that doesn't effect me on my 5770, but that will constantly nag me to update every time I turn on my PC <_<

Phandy: You updated to beta drivers... then expect everything to be perfect. Report the problem to AMD and next time don't use beta if you aren't doing so to be helpful ;)

As has been said, it's a beta driver.

Except for GAF (and excluding the "I Need a New PC" thread) the sentiment around most hardware communities (Anandtech, Tom's, overclock.net, BaPC, etc) is that the difference in drivers between AMD and Nvidia are negligible now, and shouldn't really factor into purchasing decisions. I understand that some have been burnt before, especially with Crossfire, but AMD have improved leaps and bounds.

I already own Sleeping Dogs but MoH, Hitman, and Farcry are all games I plan on buying. That's like what a $120 discount? Its a download code I would receive so I guess I could trade the Sleeping Dogs to someone else.

I currently have a 560Ti, I was going to go for a 670 but now I might go for 7950. I dont know hmm.

If it were me unless you feel you really need an upgrade I'd stick with the 560Ti until the 7xx/8xxx series come out.

Youre probably right, Im not really dying for a new card or anything. Just been thinking about it and those games sweeten the pot.

Negligible performance increase on xfire 5850s (<0.5% across the board). They seem solid in every game I've tested so far.

Sorry should have mentioned that was coming from the latest 12.9 betas.

Well I just tried BF3 with these drivers, I play with everything on Ultra and 4x AA at 1080p with a 7970 and I played on Caspian and Alborz Mountains and I can say I'm now getting just about a locked 60 FPS everywhere which is an improvement, I noticed it the most on Caspian, I used to get drops around 40-45 ish and now the lowest it dropped was 52, even when overlooking the whole map or zooming in an out with a 12x ballistic scope.

Really an improvement and even though I may not have exact numbers on how it was before you can really notice and feel the difference. Kinda wish it would have been like this from the beginning for all 7xxx users.

Don't worry guy, nVidia is PERFECT with support and drivers. No one has had problems with them, and they never will. Forget the fact there are just as many reported issues as people have with AMD on forums like overclock.net and such.

Unless of course you're talking about the PC thread on Neogaf, which seems to be only full of people that started PC gaming in the last year or 2. Had nVidia and AMD(ATi) cards since the Rage/TNT days and they both have the same problems.

ATI drivers often have the overscan at 15% on by default. And a lot of the PCs with the drivers pre-installed, like at Best Buy, screwed up the CCC installation making it IMPOSSIBLE to open, and unless you clear the Global Assembly Cache in Windows, you are unable to install the new drivers to remove the overscan.

There's countless stupid issues regarding the CCC and it's the most terrible piece of interface ever written.

Nothing nVidia can do can be worse than that crap.

Edit:
Do a search for "Global Assembly Cache ATI" and you'll see results going back years. ATI still can't fix this issue years later.

For all of those considering updating to the beta drivers, these basically entirely killed the functionality of my video card and I had to roll back my drivers.

I have a 7950, by the way.

Yeah, the overscan thing is annoying... everytime I install new drivers I have to move that back down to 0%.

7970m is finally performing up to standards.. Sleeping Dogs went from 34fps max settings, all the way up to 57fps.

Wonder if this will work with my 7690m, or if it will fuck it up like all previous drivers did and register it as a 6000m series with worse clocks and broken functionality.

Fuck, I just got a 7850 last week.

Any chance this works on quelifying cards that have already been bought?

Yup the improvement is quite noticeable. Had to switch off AA on borderlands 2 to keep it at 60fps. I just tried switching on AA with the 12.11 drivers installed, and my HD 7870 had NO problems maintaining 60fps. There's some voodoo shit going on right here.

Tried MOH : Warfighter as well - 60fps on Ultra settings

ok what the hell. My HD7870 is like a totally different card after the 12.11 update. I'm now managing to run BF3 at close to 60fps on Ultra settings. It was somewhere in the mid 40s when I was on 12.8 previously.

So right now I have two MSI 570s and the reviews for the MSI 7950 are pretty impressive. I could upgrade both cards and get the equivilent of having three 570s with the same power draw as two 7950s based on the benchmarks.

But I just got those card last year and I can play every game out now at max settings without issue (Sleeping Dogs does chug a little at times but that could be a driver issue).

What should I do?

Do you use D3DOverrider by any chance? Cause with the new drivers it crashed Dark Souls and Dishonored for me. With D3DOverrider disabled, everything I've tried ran fine (Dishonored, Dark Souls, Sleeping Dogs, Doom 3 BFG). I think I'm getting slightly better daytime framerates in Sleeping Dogs.

What's are safe overclock settings for an HD7870?

I updated on my 7950 - the games I tried so far all worked fine (except for Civ5 - that seems to be running really badly). Sleeping Dogs had ~20% improvement for me (benchmark mode), nice to see.

New to PC gaming as of this summer.. Can I install the new driver over my current driver (12.6), or do I need to uninstall the current driver first?

You can install over, many on here will recommend uninstalling the previous one first but I've never really had any problems just doing it over the top myself.
