AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta Drivers and Never Settle Bundle available now

You can install over, many on here will recommend uninstalling the previous one first but I've never really had any problems just doing it over the top myself.

It's a relic of a time long ago before driver installers didn't automatically uninstall everything before installing the new drivers. This could lead to conflicts, or only partial installs, etc.

Installed the beta drivers on my laptop with a FirePro M6000 (aka 7870M, an underclocked HD7770)

3DMark 11 with 12.8 driver, overclocked to 1000/1250: P3316 (2987 graphics score)
3DMark 11 with 12.11 beta driver, stock (800/1000): P3351 (3008 graphics score)

I can't overclock for shit now though...

EDIT: seems there are a couple beta versions around, this was with Beta3 btw.

When installing new drivers over the last half year (had to do it a fair bit due to new PC and troubleshooting an issue) I've been following this guide,

http://www.overclock.net/t/988215/h...l-ati-amd-software-drivers-for-graphics-cards

The process looks really long, but it takes like 3 minutes tops. There's zero 'pre-knowledge' required. You just follow the steps. It's kinda interesting to do it yourself because you're effectively running the uninstall function and then going back in and finding all this left-over shit in your hidden folders and registry.

People still uninstall and do all that XP-era crap? WDDM 1.1 in Windows 7 kinda makes all that obsolete. Install straight over current drivers, up- or downgrade.

Wow you actually do that? Hope it works well for you.

I have Nvidia btw

But I always uninstall HD audio / Physyx from control panel.
Uninstall driver via device manager
Reboot into safe mode, clean with Driver Sweeper
Reboot, install drivers
Reboot

It literally takes like 10 min ....

Some of you are installing drivers over your old drivers? I would never trust that even with WDDM 1.1.

I've had zero issues installing new Nvidia drivers over old ones on Windows 7.

I guess memories worse than murder make me scared to do this. Doing this in the olden days was like shooting your computer with a gun. Maybe I'll try it one day who knows.

Yes and have done so for years without problems. Uninstalling simply isn't needed any more, it's a relic of post-WDDM1.1 - I up- and downgraded without a single issue.

$269.99 (after rebate) plus free shipping and four free games.... that's a good deal. The same card on Newegg Canada is $289.99 (after rebate) with $11 dollars shipping with the game bundle. Still not bad, but not quite the deal you get over there.

That's a whole lot of work. I swapped out an 8800 GTX for a Radeon HD 7750 recently, and took these steps:

Swap cards.
Boot.
Install CCC.
Reboot.

THANK YOU for posting this. The 12.11 driver messed me up pretty bad. I had to delete it and reinstall the old 12.6 driver. With the 12.11 driver, Skyrim was all kinds of glitched out. Entire sections of the clear night sky would flash white as if lightning was striking along with pretty bad framerate drops (in Crysis 2 as well) that weren't present before. Your link fixed everything for me.

Have they addressed the overscan issue? I don't think it's just me. Any games not at my native resolution (1920x1080) have black borders, except some resolutions.

I've gone through each of the resolutions bolded in the display settings, and set overscan, but there's so many others. Why doesn't AMD just make every resolution default to full screen?

AMD is apparently still living in the 1990's where SDTVs always had overscan which had to be compensated for when a PC video card outputs to a TV.

Does anyone know what my problem could be? I really don't want to be stuck on 12.6 forever, but the performance drops and glitches I'm seeing in both 12.10 and 12.11 beta are unacceptable to me:

I'm also seeing massive framerate drops/skips in both Skyrim and Crysis 2 that weren't present before. I assume that these issues are happening in all of my games, but the above two games were the only two I tested after installing 12.10 and then 12.11.

I rolled back to 12.6, and the issue is corrected. Any ideas? Again, I don't want to be stuck on 12.6 if I can easily fix this, but I have no idea what this could be

Single monitor: the idle clocks should be 300/150, under these drivers they are 300/1200.

Did you try this temporary workaround until a hotfix is released?

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=370091

When installing these new drivers idle clock speeds are not working properly. What used to be idle clocks of 300/150 is now 500/1375 or lower depending on your card resulting in higher temps and a louder fan usage.

A fix has been discovered that will allow you to use the new drivers and also still benefit from having lower clocks until AMD release a hotfix driver.

First install the drivers+caps.

Once that is done start up CCC, go to overdrive and apply 300 core and 150 memory clocks.

After this go to preset, add preset, name the preset idle, put the tooltip as 2dclocks, under location leave all items ticked, then assign a hotkey. I used F5. Click save.

After that go to preferences in the top right of CCC, then hotkeys. Click idle and go to edit. In with Hotkey press F5, Click ok.

Now whenever you quickly need to apply idle clocks, just press Alt+F5 twice.

Not optimal, but at least you can benefit from the performance increases of 12.11 beta4. :S

I've thoroughly tested these with a Crossfire 5850 setup (overclocked to 850/1150) now. Minimum fps is definitely up across the board, but on average no huge gains. I haven't run into any stuck clock / BSODs or any other issues yet. Seems solid.

Are idle clocks still okay? Was the overscan bug fixed? I had to manually reset it every time my monitor initializes for awhile now.

Yeah, my idle clocks are both at 157/300 so ULPS is working fine. Is the overscan bug an HDMI issue? Because I used to have it and just decided to switch back to DVI for my monitor, so I can't say whether or not that is fixed.

Why aren't you on 12.8?

I just haven't updated my driver until now. Everything ran fine with 12.6 so I didn't feel the need to get 12.8. But I saw the performance gains with 12.11 in this thread and decided to finally update to it. I figured it was time to get the latest and greatest. Is 12.8 needed? I assumed that I could skip 12.8 as it isn't a requirement for 12.10 or the 12.11 beta.

I'm currently uploading a video that shows the issue. I'll post it here when it's done processing.

EDIT: video

Again, this doesn't happen with 12.6 after rolling back to it.

Nope I was just wondering. I usually don't bother with beta drivers though unless they fix really serious issues with a game I'm playing.

ok what the hell. My HD7870 is like a totally different card after the 12.11 update. I'm now managing to run BF3 at close to 60fps on Ultra settings. It was somewhere in the mid 40s when I was on 12.8 previously.
what resolution?

what resolution?

1080. played a few other games in my steam library yesterday and my impressions remain the same- improvement is very noticable . impressed with what amd has done here... although its a pity it took them this long. esp in the case of bf3

Any word on if the 12.11 beta has any effect on 5xxx series? Also, that 7950 deal is sweet indeed, although I think it would be a wasted upgrade from my OCed 5850 since I'm only running a Phenom II x4 @ 3.6 :/

Installed it with my 5870 for shits. Didn't run any benchmarks but I don't perceive a difference.

I feel bad for buying the 7970 for 310 after rebate now. >.>

It OC'd to 1200core stock, and the fan never goes above 40%. So maybe it wasn't a bad deal afteral. :-(

Stock or OC? What AA settings?

My brother's pc returned from the repair shop of the vendor we bought the parts from and instead of two 6950s two XFX 7870s came back, with two fans that are quite nice if you can believe reviews. Personally, I can't hear them over the jet engine sound of the Xigmatek case's coolers, I'll have to rip them out one day.

I'm asking because I might take one of those cards out, OC the other and have him NOT deal with crossfire anymore, which is way beyond what he's willing to do, it seems (google is so hard to use). I'd buy one of the cards off him and use it myself zo replace my 5850.

I can't just test BF3 myself, though, because a) I'm back at my student's flat and b) the huge Origin patches will take several days to DL with the crappy internet connection he has after moving.
