AMD Radeon Fury X Series | HBM, Small Form Factor And Water Cooling | June 16th

Immensely salt about no hdmi 2.0 . i greatly prefer amd cards and its so cool and quiet. I literally have no choice but to go nvidia.

Completely agree. It's really strange they did not include it. (Is it expensive to include, hardware, licensing?)

I game primarily via my receiver to the tv, so this is a no go, even with better price and performance then nvidia.

And if steamboxes takes of, have they screwed them self? I like the small size of it and would be very nice for a little gamebox in the living room, to bad you can't plug in into (most) tv's.

Well there always the next revision.

Don't they tell you to not put the radiator below the card?

From his first sentence:

"I did a test last night, I closed up my case but left the radiator just in the bottom of the case exhausting its heat inside the case, this is a really bad idea by the way, but I wanted to see how hot the card would get."

He only did it as a 'worst case scenario' setup to see if the Fury X would reach its thermal limit of 75C. It ended up maxing out at 58C after 8+ hours of nonstop benchmarking, which shows how good the cooler is.

Some interesting info from Gibbo.

"Hi there

I did a test last night, I closed up my case but left the radiator just in the bottom of the case exhausting its heat inside the case, this is a really bad idea by the way, but I wanted to see how hot the card would get.

After running Heaven 4.0 all night, the maximum temperature was 58c and the fan speed never exceeded 16%, starting point percentage for the fan is 15%, so it was quieter than the case fans and I was able to sleep with no issues at all.

Here is a picture, its in a Corsair case with the smoked side panels, so its not easiest to see and ignore the SSD's just randomly hanging in the bottom of case:"

Cool, damn near silent fans under load. That's a massive win for AMD if true, as it looks like they have made up for the launch of noisey reference 200-series cards and then some.

58C max temp when he had the fans blowing the wrong way is awesome too. This thing could overclock like a beast when the voltage control is unlocked.

I might be forced to set the Fury X up this way in my case as a temporary solution. I have a Silverstone Sugo SG09 that has a 120mm slot on the side, but I don't think I have enough clearance for the radiator. Or I can just wait for the AIB Fury cards to release on July 14th. Maybe we'll even see some of those with HDMI 2.0.

Just so you're aware... this'll work fine with most TVs. No HDMI 2.0 is specifically a problem for resolutions above 1080p (4k TVs).

Ah yeah, there are some 144Hz 1080 monitors that are DVI only. Same with overclockable 1440 monitors.

The lack of dual-link DVI and HDMI 2.0 really does take a bite out of potential customers.

FWIW, almost all new 120/144Hz monitors do have Displayport, so there's that. But I have an old BenQ XL2420T which does not have a DP. Dual Link DVI only. My VG248QE and RoG Swift are good to go.

Looks damn sexy. Can't afford two (yet).

Actually I've been wondering how that would work. How would someone work a Crossfire with Fury X is they both have built in radiators? My case only has one spot in the back for a 120mm fan, and the cord doesn't look long enough to reach the front of an ATX case. :/

Top, bottom, side panel, or front. If your case can't accommodate, you'd need to get a new case.

Yeah, I have a different BenQ that's the same way. Only paid $200 for it so I guess I can't complain TOO much if I end up replacing it in 1-2 years (prob for a 4k display) but... yeah.

Now THAT is awesome! That might be the most viable 4k solution for gaming on the planet at the moment when all factors are taken in to account (heat, noise, power draw, price, etc.).

And to the person who asked previously, I believe they go on sell Wed morning when the review embargo drops. (Wed morning for the east coast USA)

Probably for preventing damage from bubbles, and he probably doesn't care cause it's a review sample and not his own card he paid for.

Air bubbles will go towards the top of the system because they're lighter than water, and if the radiator (and reservoir with it) is on the bottom, that makes the pump the highest point in the system. Air going through a pump is a major no bueno. Causes cavitation and lots of stress. Great way to kill a pump. That's why preferred mounting setup is radiator above card with tubes on bottom: it puts the reservoir as high as possible. Given that it's a sealed system, though, there shouldn't be any bubbles. Short term I doubt it's a big deal.

It could also be that they want as much water pressure as possible when it's going through the pump. They might be worried about cavitation via low water pressure if your loop's height delta is too big with the pump at the top.

Know which retailers will have them? Will Amazon? What's the best brand of AMD card to usually get?

So I'm going to be getting this card on Wednesday for science!

But I currently have my pc hooked up to a 32" 1080p TV

I'm leaning towards that Asus 1440p 144hz Freesync monitor, but there are alot more on the horizon coming, do I pull the trigger on a new monitor now or just wait a bit and use the downsampling method on my 1080p for now?

XFX, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI are pretty good.

I would avoid Powercolor, Diamond Multimedia and Sapphire...just my opinion, though.

Thanks. Think I can run this on a 460 watt power supply? I ran a geforce 980 on it lol What is the power drain on one of these during gaming?

I really hope they have enough in stock.
I can only buy it in 2 weeks.
Seems like enthusiasts are rushing for non-ref 980Ti instead, so there might be enough stock to go around.

I just read the review, man that monitor looks really good.

you can buy from them but I strongly STRONGLY suggest opening up the gpu and redoing the paste yourself.

they gob that shit on and then the paste crusts and turns into an insulator of heat.
Hopefully it won't come down to that.

Myself I couldn't get the paste done right on my CPU last time.

Official retail Fury X box!
It is 95% of 980Ti prices here.

450GB/s HBM only?
Not the full 512GB/s. :/
