AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” Desktop CPU Prices Leaked: 9950X $499, 9900X $399, 9700X $299, 9600X $229

Bernoulli

M2 slut
alleged pricing of the Ryzen 9000 CPUs which is as listed below:

  • Ryzen 9 9950X - $499 US (7950X $699 US MSRP)
  • Ryzen 9 9900X - $399 US (7900X $549 US MSRP)
  • Ryzen 7 9700X - $299 US (7700X $399 US MSRP)
  • Ryzen 5 9600X - $229 US (7600X $299 US MSRP)

The pricing information comes from Anandtech Forum member, Hail The Brain Slug, who allegedly knows someone working at BestBuy. In the conversation, the alleged BestBuy employee revealed the Ryzen 9000 CPUs are in stock & ready for the retail launch on the 31st of July though availability might vary from shop to shop. It is mentioned that there's lots of stock for the Ryzen 9 9900X & the Ryzen 7 9700X CPUs but there aren't a lot of Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 5 9600X chips at this specific retailer.

229 launch price of the 9600X...........300 for the 9700X?
Intel have got to be reevaluating their launch prices for ArrowLake.

Cuz if they are thinking of using the same prices as last gen.

Guv5uZx.gif

Seems fine, but I don't know if it will really sell that well.

Bro a 9600X for 229 and a 9700X for 299 is a frikken steal.
AM5 is now a mature platform so motherboards arent too expensive.
You need to remember the 7600X was 299 and the 7700X was 399........this is like a 100 price cut gen on gen.....the 9600 non-X is gonna sub 200 dollars.
And the upper echelon(that we shouldnt care about as gamers) have even bigger price cuts.

Intel is busy dealing with RaptorLake issues which is already a headache........if these prices get announced this is gonna be Intel.

That would have to be the price to get any interest from me... Zen4 pricing is way down from MSRP.

Current Amazon Pricing of Zen4 at time of posting (much lower than the abysmal MSRP pricing).

7950X3D: $460
7900X: $360
7700X: $260
7600X: $180

Bro a 9600X for 229 and a 9700X for 299 is a frikken steal.
Not really. Its just bringing prices closer to what they should be. If they do price gouging like last time, its only a matter of time before the market corrects the prices, and they will drop to the prices seen in this rumor anyway, just like Zen4.

8-Cores at $299 is not amazing in 2024.

Jup. Everyone will wait for X3D.

The 9700X will match a 7800X3D for 299 dollars, noing the 7800X3D is still 390 - 450 dollars........thats a frikken steal cuz you are likely GPU bound already anyway......of course if you are planning on buying an RTX 5080(90) then maybe you can wait and do a full build when both are out, otherwise this seems too good to be true......i might not even wait for ArrowLake and just jump ship to AM5 now. (I wont do that I wanna see what ArrowLake can do)
While there will be people waiting for the 9000X3Ds alot of people will jump at these prices cuz even a 9600X is likely gonna have near 13900K performance for 229.

These are 7800X3D matching cores.
Not just 8 cores.
Also the 14700K is still 400 - 450 dollars......so yeah a flat 300 for a new chart topping 8 core CPU is a hell of a good deal.

We'll see about that. AMD themselves says only 12% better than 5800X3D, which would make 9700X a bit slower than 7800X3D.

It will be faster in productivity, but likely a bit slower in gaming.

A CPU no one should buy today. 14700K also has 8P + 12E cores. 13700K with 8P + 8E is only $330 today.

So again, no, getting only 8-Cores at $299 in 2024 is not amazing.

I bought a 13600K (6P+8E) for $300 20 months ago and it will probably beat the 9700X in MT by more than the 9700X will win in gaming.

The only competition the 9700X has is the 7800X3D and 13/14700K........all those chips are more expensive than it.
SO how can you say it isnt a good deal?

I would understand your point if there was an alternative 8 core gaming CPU that was well below 300 dollars but the 7700X isnt an alternative its a straight downgrade, and everything comparable is more expensive?

This isnt even factoring in that RaptorLake is probably NOT a good buy right now until Intel figure out whats causing them to fail.

Well, we don't know the price of the 9700X yet. And if this rumor is true, it is today, by $30, but you get much faster MT with the 13700K.

13600K, which is only a $240 today will probaly beat the 9700X in MT, with 9700X winning in gaming probably by single digits.

SO how can you say it isnt a good deal?
I'm not saying its not good. I'm saying its not amazing.

Did you not see the prices Zen4 is going for today?

8 Zen4 cores can be had at only $260 today. Lets say Zen5 is 15% faster. At $299 an 8-Core Zen5 will have basically the same value as Zen4 today.

That would be good value, if this rumor is true, not amazing.

Its only amazing if you are blind to the fact that AMD Zen4 MSRP was abysmal.

Leo you know im an Intel guy.
Im usually right there with you carry the torch whenever these CPU releases are happening.

But in a purely gaming build, even a mostly gaming build, unfortunately AMD has taken it (assuming these prices are true).
At the lower end (where I live) Intel still has it.
Im on a 12400 planning on going to a 136K because I, while rarely, actually do need MT performance.
Intels 13400/500/600 are unmatched multi purpose CPUs......but as this is NeoGAF a gaming forum im assuming most people are looking at their CPUs for gaming first other shit second, in which case the 9700X looks like an absolute steal if it does actually match the 7800X3D.

Im still gonna wait for ArrowLake though, cuz even without HT ArrowLakes u5 should still outclass the 9700X but if Intel prices it at above 300 dollars.......thats a nonstarter.

Is it though? What if the i5 Arrow Lake is 20-30% faster than 9700X in MT while also being faster for gaming. If that is the case it would be worth paying extra for, for me at least.

Leonidas's hateboner for AMD is just legendary
Yeah, I hate them so much that I bought Zen1-Zen3 and might be buying a 9950X, depending on how Arrow Lake turns out....

Assuming the 13600K is 6% faster than the 7700X and the 9700X is 16% faster than its predecessor in games, then the 13600K would need to be ~26% faster than the 7700X on average in MT, for that to hold. The 13600K seems to be ~20% faster in the best case multithreaded benchmarks, but in plenty of cases the advantage is a lot less. Computerbase gives the 13600K a 9% advantage in their multithreaded performance index.

Even if we say that the 13600K is 15% faster on average, then the 9700X would be expected to deliver the same multithreaded performance.

Major problem with that test, as they use different memory speeds for each CPU.

Here is the latest Hardware Unboxed test, using the same memory and with the newest BIOS updates.
When not manipulating benchmarks with slower memory, it's a 3% performance difference between the 14600K and the 7700X.
And consider that the 14600K runs 3.5% higher clocks that the 13600K.

Techpowerup, also using the same memory for all CPUs, show similar results.

If the u5K is faster than the 9700X at MT (Blender/Indigo/Vray) and is faster in gaming......im all in on ArrowLake at ~330 not much more than that.
But 14 Threads vs 16 Threads the u5K doesnt have the thread advantage the way the i5K did.
Realistically in that scenario the u5K would be a direct competitor to the 9700X.....and would be a legit good option for my build till the next next socket.

We'll see, id love to be pleasantly surprised, the 12400 outdid all my expectations so I dont doubt Intel could pull something out of the bag with u5K.

Jup. Everyone will wait for X3D.
It will be interesting to see true benches and comparisons to 7800x3D. That may still be better or equal than most of these for gaming.

Now, if one needs a productivity CPU, this is probably going to be great.

But yeah, most folks are going to wait on x3D for gaming.

I was talking about my i5, which is clocked past 14600K and RAM heavily tuned to the point that my i5 is ~10% faster than what you see in some of those stock clock scenarios.

You're still basing this on a leak, we don't know the 9700X price. AMD is 10 days from launch and still haven't given the price.

We also don't know the thread count of Arrow Lake, Arrow Lake is not the same as Lunar Lake. And even if Arrow i5 is only 14 threads, it could still win vs 8 core Zen5 in MT as the E-cores could be ~50% faster than they are today.

Leonidas Leonidas on suicide watch?
As someone who bought Zen1-Zen3, why would I be? I bought more AMD CPUs in the past 6 years than the majority of people on this forum.

Men intel really shit the brick with the 14900k, 4x power consumption for barely any increase in frames. Imagine rocking a 200w cpu jesus.

Also time for AMD to drop some extra 3D cores on the newer gen. 90% usage isn't to good if u do other stuff on the side on a second monitor bit room would be useful.

That is correct.
Im basing my opinions on leaks.
Leaks on the 9000 series price.
Leaks on the 9000 performance.
Leaks on ArrowLakes thread counts.

But other than the price leak which only has one source, the leaks are all pretty reputable, pretty much guaranteed at this point(In fact 9000 series is said to be even faster with simple tuning)
The 9700X is expected to at the very least match the 7800X3D in many scenarios (there are some games that love that V-Cache) which is already a good selling point for the chip as its alot cheaper than the 7800X3D and will likely boost higher and be better at productivity.
That makes it a good deal for someone looking to get into AM5 multipurpose use computing without breaking the bank.

Why does AMD not just release the X3D chips why even bother with non 3D chips.

Are you asking why tiers and different products exist?

The 7800X3D vs the 7900 non-X in Blender:

blender.png

It gets even worse in unbiased renderers like Corona
corona.png

The 7900 is cheaper than the 7800X3D.........if Im a heavy Blender user with a budget which CPU do you think I should buy?
Even a 136K will handily beat the 7800X3D in render jobs.

Different products for different jobs, V-Cache doesnt benefit every program and in many cases causes the CPU to boost lower than its non-X3D counterpart.
If AMD figured out a way to do V-Cache with no downsides (costs included) then they could abandon non-X3D chips.

AMD's own gaming benchmarks don't make much sense. On one hand AMD shows 9700X as 12% faster than a 14700K in gaming (with at least one blatant cherry pick, which I will point out in 10 days), in the other, it claims it is only 12% faster than 5800X3D (which puts it behind 7800X3D). Both statements can't be true. One is seemingly heavily cherry picked and basically a lie.
Current leaks say Arrow Lake should have 20-35% higher MT than Raptor Refresh, that would mean Arrow Lake i5 should keep a similar (or maybe even better) performance advantage over Zen5s 8 Core in MT.

If 9700X is ~15-20% faster than 7700X on average, and Arrow i5 is ~20-35% faster than the 14600K, the Arrow Lake i5 would be even faster in MT vs. 8-Core Zen5 than last gen...

Reasonable-ish prices and considering how much later Arrow Lake will be launched, Zen 5 (non-X3D) prices can be reduced in response with the X3D chips sandwiching AL. Not to mention, AMD currently has a big PR advantage and well... their chips are not ticking time bombs...

Could be just 3 month difference, not a huge wait. Could only be a two month difference between the time we know official prices for each...

I just hope the X3D chips launch later this year.

Have that upgrade itch

They are almost certainly going to announce them at CES 2025.
Theres no major conferences happening other than GTC H2 which is for Nvidia to hopefully announce Blackwell.
Which means youll probably only see them in stores in February 2025.
