Ride the Buffalo. :lol

"Now send in the Lunch Lady."

That's my third laugh. I want the show to stay now.

Watching my dog take a dump is better than TGTTM. That show is just horrible, I think only Super Milk Chan can possibly be worse.

The mom doesn't look like the artists fully conceptualized her. she's very basic. Like something I'd draw and I'm a horrible artist. She looks like how you might draw a person in a crowd in the background where you're not putting much thought into it. I hope she progresses. The simpsons were able to.

I've only seen the short pilot...is this episode on torrent yet? I'm sure it will be by tomorrow though

I dug the alien. The fish was too much like Stewey (or however you spell it). The mom was kind of annoying. But it had some funny moments. The ride the buffalo cracked me up. I'd watch it again.

I'd watch it again, definitely. Looks like there's a good amount of potential. Don't like the fish though.

And Bum fights look funny:p

Actually he's a lot more like Brian in that he wants to sex up the wife.

I give it a THUMBS UP!!!!

It has a lot of potential. here's hoping fox doesnt move it every other week like they did with Family Guy.

I definitely agree with some of the criticism, but the funniest moment for me was when the principal stops and shouts "You can read? THE SYSTEM WORKS!" :lol

I guess he's like a mix, cause he's got that dry smart ass tone, and he's kind of evil/naughty. Instead of wanting to kill, he wants to get some arse.

Eh...waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much of a one-joke show.

The part with God was mildly amusing, and the mugging scene was just too predictable to be funny.

The part with the buffalo was the only time in the show where I really laughed.

Anyway, I expected this episode to suck. I also expect the series itself to be much better. So we'll see what happens.

Why is being like Family Guy a bad thing? I give it a big thumbs up!

Having this and Family Guy run at the same same is pretty stupid tho.

The characters seem a bit flat, but its just the first episode.

The wife needs a LOT of work in the personality, and she's not very easy on the eyes.

Wow. Talk about overreactions. Some of you need to keep your hate in check.

Nothing amazing, but that was FAR better than the Simpsons episode tonight, aside from the videogame parodies which were obviously thrown in for cheap laughs anyway from dorks like us.

Geezus christ, people thought Family Guy was a rip-off of The Simpsons when it first aired. Give it some time, which is actually kind of unfortunate, because we won't be able to until May now. Its not going to find its own niche in ONE episode.

Sucks at viral marketing
That was possibly the lamest show I've ever seen. Kill off the dad, the two kids, the mom, and the goldfish; bring back the dog and make the show about the alien and Jack who have to pretend to be women in order to keep their apartment.... then maybe...maybe it could be funny. They still have 4 months to get it right.

On a related note, why has Fox brought The Family Guy back 4 times now, but Futurama in no more?

The political stuff definitely wasn't working for me. And I agree that too much is too similar to Family Guy.

The purse-snatching and the buffalo were pretty funny.

I'm very skeptical about the show, but I'm willing to try a few more episodes....

This is a brilliant strategy by Fox.

People will either:

A) Love it, and anxiously anticipate its premiere.
B) Hate it, but will have forgotten their hate by the time May rolls around and they'll try watching it again.

I was thoroughly meh...the God stuff was good. I also, however, feel that it was literally like a Family Guy spinoff. Family, children, thing that shouldn't talk talking, etc. I'm not ragging on either show with this comment, but it just reeks of more of the same for me.

I think Fox missed a really good opportunity to help out the soon-to-be late great Arrested Development with a post-Superbowl ratings shot in the arm. But, no, they had to throw the slot away on a show that doesn't premiere for another three months.

This colored my opinion of American Dad, I must admit. A really great show is about to go down the tubes, and, once again, it seems like the network doesn't even care.

They don't care about shows, just money. Sadly, people prefer American Idol to good shows.

I thought American Dad was great.

They did something similar with Family Guy back in '99 -- first episode aired after the game, and the next didn't run for another month or two.

Thinks he should have been the one to kill Batman's parents.
That was bad. I hope the humor isn't quite so dated come May. Seriously, orange alert jokes?

Yeah...and it was just a "Aren't alert thingies stupid" joke. The Simpsons at least did a bit of a different take on it.

Eh. It was all right.

Too many lame jokes in the episode though. I'd give this episode a C plus.

I don't think it should be labeled hate to say the first episode of American Dad shown is lackluster. This episode would have been better as a middle of the season filler episode after the show is established.

its not just "like" family guy. It has the same style of animation, very similar characters, the same types of punchlines/jokes, even similar sound effects and music. It was funny, but all the time i kept thinking to myself that it felt like they gave the buff dude in a wheelchair from Family Guy his own spinoff episode or something.

I was with some more "casual" non-fanboy TV viewers, and we all had a great time watching American Dad. The near-death family dog was great :lol I'm not really a huge FG fan and I still found a lot of stuff humorous....

As long as the show is funny, is there any reason I should care that it bears some similarities to Family Guy?

(Needless answer to rhetorical question: Fuck no -- this is an animated sitcom, not an Oscar contender. Humor trumps creativity everytime.)

And better than Tom Goes to the Mayor:p

Yeah, just what the hell is the deal with that show anyway? Did the guy who makes it suck somebody's dick at Adult Swim or what? A show that bad has GOT to be the result of some buddy-favortism or something like that. That show sucks. IT SUCKS!

American Dad was pretty funny!

And remember American Dad was in development when FOX had no intention of bringing FG back so McFarlane really had no reason to not use FG type humour

I thought the Father in American Dad was much better than Peter Griffith.

I did laugh at the God skit alot. Pretty decent overall. I think republicans wont like it much.

I thought it had some pretty funny moments although it tried too hard at times. I'm looking forward to more of it though, I think it will get better in time.
