American Dad: The Series Premierening! (gotta sit through some simpsons edition)

The show is ok. They changed some things from the leaked version. The only big one being that when the other candidate for class president is called a whore, in the leaked version she was sleeping with The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I think the Jack-in-the-Box bit was funnier.

My favorite joke of the episode is, "all periods will now be called 'steves.'

Hey, I'm thiking of skipping third steve, you in?
Yeah but only if I'm back in time for fourth steve.

To end this sentence we use a steve.

May I use the bathroom, I'm starting my steve."

Brilliant.

I think it has the potential to make me laugh in the future, but that 1st episode was awful. Simpsons, a show which has sucked tremendously for far too long made me laugh more then American dad did. It didn't help that half the episode was the 10 minute pilot made available for download months ago. The half of the episode we didn't get to see had barely any jokes either , it was like a shitty attempt to replace family guy, an effort which should have been abandonded after family guy got renewed.

I was offered a position on the Family guy production. I LOVE Family Guy, and am debating whether I should take it or not....

I think the daughter character has a lot of potential. Community College hipster is less exploited than NASCAR dads and nerdy sons.

It had a few decent jokes, and I really dug the alien, but I didn't laugh as much as I would have liked.

It is the first show of the season, though, so I will not be one to pre judge. I do expect it to get much better.

I just don't understand where you people laughed. Everything on the show was so forced and so flat.
And the jokes that were funny in the clips weren't nearly as funny in the context of the show.

I didn't laugh the entire time. I had a better time watching the simpsons and a much better time watching old family guy episodes later on.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
It looks like my initial worry upon hearing about this show has proved true. Seth is just stretching his somewhat limited talents too far. This show is just Family Guy with some different characters, and even then barely. Let's just stick to making new good Family Guy episodes, a'ight? I really don't see this show lasting...

The only thing good about it was the Alien, thats all. The jokes sucked.

Whatever. The whole dog scene was awesome (lol it's name was "Thor" or some shit). The scene with the kids dad robbing that girls purse in the mall. There was a whole bunch of funny
material. You guys are such snobs when it comes to this stuff. lighten up. :)

Family Guy was funny from episode 1, this wasn't.

Family Guy has a sense of timing with it's constant funny asides. It's not like it's material is high brow or anything. This was just dumb and forced. I have no idea what TV elitism or "casuals" means in this context...I barely watch TV but I like Family Guy and some other shows. Everyone else who was watching it with me wanted to change the channel but we watched it till the end based on the creator. Seems like they never found their rythhm for the pilot.

To each is his own, but I think comedy must have given up with you. Everyone I was with was laughing their asses off. This show is no more "forced" then Family Guy. It's practically the same. You sound jaded to me. :lol

I love Family Guy and think this show has the same potential. Just need to give the characters time to develop into their own But, yeah, so far it is very similar to Family Guy.

Oh. OK, anything *good*? :D
didn't family guy come on after the super bowl or during half-time?

Take it...I would've taken the offer I got for venture brothers but with there being an "off season" and lots of bills to pay it wouldn'y be worth it.

Anywho...I laughed a couple of times but I agree the voices were off especially for the wife.

The high school professor buttoning up his shirt while saying something like "not now" to the frog finally hooked me on this show :lol

It's a fairly promising start though for American Dad, they just have to tweak the show a bit.

Family Guy after all received quite a few subtle changes after season 1 (mostly for the better), so hopefully this show will receive the same treatment

I'm still thinking about it. Fox ordered another 16 episodes, making the production run into early 2007. If i didn't have a cushy job in production right now i'd be gone in a heartbeat.

I thougth the show was just trying to be over-the-top bad humor. Sure there were parts where I laughed but I've never been a big fan or cartoons that try to make you laugh by pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable television.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that they're going to kill off the fish midway through the first season.
