American Horror Story: Hotel |OT| Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed!

It feels like i missed an episode or two since the break. Weird how they used two actors to play two characters each in one season.

3-4, actually.

Paulsen was Allien the Serial Killer from Florida, Billie Jean the Psychic from Season 1 (that Constance hires), Sally, and... I'm forgetting the last one but it's the one where she cleaned up.

In any case, I actually liked this season and it's probably the BEST of AHS. I was out after Season 4 and Lange leaving, but Bomer brought be back. And Murphy delievered. Depending on the cast for next season I dunno if I'll check out another one though.

Liz is probably my favorite AHS character so far. By far. I just goddamn love that persona. Bless her. Bless her going out in her own way.

AND everyone that said "well they'll probably blow up the hotel or something but probably avoid that to bring it back": Yep, we'll see it sometime in 2030 or so given it's near the 100 mark now.

It's also funny that Iris is the only human left.

Not sure what to say about the finale. It felt weird to me because I think I missed an episode or two. Liz's story I almost mistook for the ending because it did sort of felt like it and I'm glad it wasn't because that would've been too cheerful for a horror story.

The psychic going to the Devil's Night party I felt could've been just a bit creepier to set in the situation. The season overall I felt was good, but there were some ends I felt could've wove in a bit better. I'm not sure if the vampire children wound up being anything and I think John's transition could've used a bit more oomph to it. Lady Gaga surprised me with her acting ability and she was among the most fun to watch and Angela Basset brings it as always. I can't say I'm eager for another season. I still haven't finished seasons 2, or 4 yet and obviously I need to catch the one or two episodes I missed from this one

That was Lilly Rabe.

Uh... they killed their parents. They started to kill random people. Some of the kids (well two of the girls really) didn't want to continue to kill just for vampire powers. Alex brings them to the Cortez and locks them in. They're killed by Angela Basset who is starved.

I mean it was a plotpoint they could've done without but it also did show that Alex's "wanting to save kids/her son" did backfire in a way.

I didn't see that part. I thought they just walked off into the day and never were heard from again. So vampires can feed off of other vampires in this? They're vampires were kind of weird. Weakness to sunlight for me is also something you keep and though at the beginning Countess said it should be avoided, I never saw any consequences by going into the sun.

She said they can go into it, but it's better to avoid it. They never really expounded on that.

But Alex (and John/Commandents Killer) basically tricked the kids because some of the kids were falling sick because they didn't want to kill. They come back to the renovated area that the Countess locked her "new husband"/the designer in to kill him. This is also where she (and Donovan in a "back-stab-double-agent" sort of move, I guess. Though really he still loved her/stupid love) locked Angela Basset up and that's why after the Designer freed her, she killed him (to where the maid lovingly looked on and said "told you so" after he didn't believe her on the Countess' plans for him) and hid to kill the kids because she was trapped in there like the 1920's stars.

I didn't realize how long of a break the show took around the holidays. I hadn't watched it in weeks but I guess I only missed one episode.

So I guess the takeaway from the finale is that even though everyone dreads the idea of death and how it means you're worthless, most of the characters found what they were looking for after their death in some way?

The cop gets to be with his family I guess

Liz Taylor got that model boy back

Hypodermic Sally got an iPhone

Most of the characters found some kind of growth or enlightenment, except for The Countess. Instead you see her looking for another handsome man to worship her and do her bidding. She's stuck in an endless cycle while everyone else managed to evolve in some way. Kind of a cool wrap up I suppose.

The beginning of the episode was just silly - why the heck did Liz and Iris think they could do anything with the Hotel Cortez as long as it was populated by murderous and vengeful ghosts? :p

btw: where was Queenie?

Odd finale. I liked it but it wasn't at all what I expected, everything was so happy

I know it doesn't matter as you can change your outfit afterwards, but I would have thought that Liz would have picked a better death outfit

I liked the fact that the gay bearded ghost just moped around the hotel. Poor chap. Iris should get him a smartphone with some dating apps installed.

lol the part with Liz and all the ghosts was so cheesy.

Hard to believe they could get ALL the ghosts in the Cortez to stop murdering people. Sally with the Internet was fun though.

This show morality was all over the place. Hard to be happy for Liz and Iris when they committed so many atrocities. The show even implied Donovan went to Heaven, WTF.

Also Scarlet grew up normally with a serial killer dad and a vampire mom. Sure, why not?

That was the most feel good ending to a story full of murderers and monsters I've ever seen. I loved how ridiculous it was.

I actually thought Scarlet was going to kill herself in that scene to stay at the hotel forever with her family. I guess they didn't go with that and she'll visit them every Halloween. Did anyone else think that while watching that scene?

I love AHS, but I hate how disjointed it always is. There is so many things never explained, that show up once or twice and then it's never mentioned again. Characters come and go for no reason, the pace is just all over the place. If this show wasn't based around a horror theme which I'm a huge fan of, if it didn't involve monsters and ghosts and all of that, there is no way I'd watch it and most would rate it some of the worst TV out there. Imagine a "normal" show with this sort of story and pacing and all of those other basics of entertainment. It would be a freakin' mess.

But it's not normal, it is crazy about about all of these insane things, so I still love it anyway.

It could just be so much better if they just went that extra mile though. So, so much better.

I'll be back for the next season for sure, haha.

Am I crazy or did I hear that it was confirmed that the next season is the last one for the entire series?

Loved this season. (Mostly) great acting all around as is expected from AHS at this point, though Wes Bentley was awful imo. Gaga did well for her first major acting gig, but definitely improved as the season went on. Her best episode would be episode 10 in terms of line delivery and all that. Loved the overall darker tone this season had, but I have to agree with the “too many sex scenes“ criticism. Angela and Finn's talents were also kind of wasted. Loved that Denis O'Hare finally got a bigger role and I seriously hope him and Kathy get Emmy nods.
My season ratings would be 2>>5>=1>>>>>3>>4

I absolutely loved that finale. I was expecting a more vengeful tone, not such a satisfying character focused wrap-up.

Liz Taylor is a surprise highlight of this season. Such a fabulous character and performance. It was honestly touching how her whole "family" gathered around her for her death and rebirth. Gaga entering like that and laying her to rest... The whole scene was perfection. And way Tristan showed up again! Loved it. Loved everything about the conclusion to Liz's story.

Sarah Paulson reprising her role as Billie, the psychic from the first season, was an inspired touch. As was the Devil's Night redux, which retrospectively improved that kooky Halloween episode by firmly establishing its central concept as an important feature of the Hotel Cortez.

The great success of this season was to create well developed characters and actually see each of them through a robust arc that had many organic connections between themselves and across seasons. The way everything came together in the end, with all of the permanent residents of the Hotel Cortez finding a kind of peace, and a place among friends, was exceptionally well done.

For its characters, narrative, style, and overall cohesion, Hotel is my favorite season of American Horror Story.

5 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 4. (Sorry but Coven's characters give me everlasting life.)

The wrap up was so similar to Season 1 in that it probably could've ended satisfactorily one episode earlier but regardless I did love it.

Gagas final scene reminded me of Julian McMahon's final scene in Nip Tuck. Everything coming fill circle.

I'd say these are my rankings

2 > 1 = 5 > 3 > 4

I felt like we'd never get another season to top or at least be steady footing with 1 & 2 but now that we have I'm excited as ever for 6 what ever that may be.

Pretty much agree with all of this
The penultimate episode felt a lot more climatic for me, probably could have done an extra long episode rather than having this weeks one but I'm not going to criticise it too much

Next season: 70's? Felt like there was followup/backstory for that period that we never got, and it would be far better than another '50s series.

I hope we'll get another closed environment, AHS (and horror) work better when you feel like the characters are "trapped" in one location.

We normally get clues about the next season. Anything was found yet?

Hopefully yeah. It's one of the main reason Freakshow sucked imo.
