I doubt Toon Link or Bowser will be rare. Anything tied to a major franchise will probably get restocked especially anything Zelda or Mario related.

Rare, not rare, shouldn't matter. If you start picking up ones just because they're rare, you'll end up with a lot of plastic toys if they become common.
Pick up the ones you want because you like the character. And try to get them locked down via pre-orders ASAP. The more planning you do here, the less stressful you'll find it.
Well Villager was pretty hard to come by, and I think most people would agree that Animal Crossing is a major franchise. I'd say, if you want a certain Amiibo just get it asap.
Animal Crossing is popular, but not as recognizable or as well known as Mario or Link. The average person would know who Mario is. Not so much with Villager. I think that's why Nintendo made less of him.
I'm not too interested in collecting cards. They would be more disposable to me. I would probably buy one if they were tied to a cool unlockable in the game, but I definitely wouldn't be out on the hunt for them. Cards just can't be displayed like a figure can.

I dont want cards. With limited functionality in games, much of the appeal is having a figures of characters I love.
Only if the functionality was greatly improved and/or the cost was low enough. No way am I paying $5 so I can train Zero Suit Samus as a smash fighter.

You would probably have to buy packs and packs of cards to complete a set. I'd imagine they would be randomly packaged like trading cards.
Yeah, no doubt. Mario is one of the most well known characters in gaming overall. But looking at sales figures for the 3DS New Leaf is the fifth game on the list. Only having Mario and Pokémon games in front of it. It's 9th place on DS and 6th place on Gamecube. And Animal Crossing fans are quite hot for merchandise. Nintendo would be crazy not to come up with actually village animals as amiibo's if you ask me.

If they do cards I hope they make blank ones. So I can transfer my amiibo to the card and later upload the stored information back to the amiibo.

I almost bought another Yoshi as a gift for a party I'm going to today but they were out at the Target I was at. So I bought Pikachu. I have no idea if the person who gets it even plays Smash but I don't care. They're getting Pikachu.

Keeping them in box until this nonsense settles down. Although I opened mario for smash and Link for Hyrule Warriors. I don't think those will be hard to come by.
Taking mine out. I buy them to fight in Smash. A boxed amiibo doesn't fight.

As far as taking amiibos out of the box. So far I've taken them all out. That's what started my frantic need to collet them. Love taking them out and playing with them.

Not talking about shipping. I meant how people pre order to have it pick up and all I see is people pre ordering for store pick up only to find out the store doesn't have it or it was sold. In store pre order or shipping to home just seems so much safer by experience and learning from everyone in this thread.

I don't get it either. AFAIK, BB is sticking to a hard 11/30 street date for Pit and I've yet to see one in target or TRU. It's entirely possible they both have the same street date. I get the panic doubling the price but 70-80 dollars? Really?

I really don't know how else im going to get a Captain Falcon. Some local Targets had them in stock late last night and when I checked this morning the listing for him was completely gone from the website...
I suppose I do have a Villager still in the box that I could trade. The box isn't in perfect shape though but it was the only one the store had.

Hehehe.... No I don't. And I had the chance to get him twice! Decided at that time that I wasn't really into amiibos. The same with WFT. I almost didn't get Marth because of his face, but I picked him up when I went back to the same Wal-mart the following day after seeing him.
