Amiibo Discussion Thread

That's a day 1.

Imagine if the Shulk amiibo does something in Xenoblade Chronicles X, like IDK, unlocking Shulk default clothes for your protagonist or something like that! :D
Beyond that, I'm personally hoping for integration with the Xenoblade N3DS remake.

My Link is named Lonk. He's a brawler with a smooth lander equipment, strong but kinda stupid in teams even at 50. I want to give him googly eyes.

My WFT is named PSL, since "pumpkin spice latte" was too long. Felt appropriate for a yoga lady. At 47 she is still getting her ass handed to her by Lonk. She praises the sun with Sun Salutation spam. I want to paint on some Wellingtons and those grey work socks.

It's weird how they can become such personalities :O

About the personality thing, I'm doing it all wrong. My amiibos will be soulless pieces of CPU, trained by the CPU. D:

Since I bought both Link and Mario Amiibos, I just let them fight 1v1 for 45 minutes yesterday and they were almost lvl 25 each after that. Though in the end they seemed to fight way better than in the beginning.

Question: Can they still adapt to my gaming style even post lvl 50?

I bought 4 amiibos yesterday and Smash.

Get home, messed around with them, got them synched up. Saw I can transfer the character back and forth.

Not super impressed with the in game functionality. Meh.

I'm up to 8 Amiibo now, and I think I have all the harder to find ones covered. This is going to be a huge problem for me, I can already tell. I honestly thought my collecting days were done, but these are just too cool for me to pass up.

I feel the same, I bought two yesterday...played with them a bit, and put them on one of my shelves, more satisfied with the quality than what I expected at first.

Now I'm thinking ''That Fox amiibo was really cool, the Kirby one is adorable, I need Marth and DK too.''

''Oh that's right, Little Mac is looking great, may grab it too.''

''And Diddy Kong.''

''Oh shit, that's right there's Samus too, I absolutely need this one!''

AAAAAAAARGH!!! >_<

This is the overall reaction from everyone, okay functionality for Smash, good unlockables for Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8 & more to come. Great for collectability on shelf :P

It's a longterm endeavor for Nintendo - one should expect a Skylanders-type game with the figurines by next-year is what I think. That is when we will see the huge benefit of having amiibo figurines.

So have you guys tried training your Amiibos yet? What do you think of their in game functionality? Any interesting observations/experiences to share?

They definitely keep adapting. Lonk developed habits that destroyed PSL but then I threw them in teams against CPUs and it came clear they were to his detriment against others.

I found this Reddit guide to be helpful in understanding some of the tendencies. I don't worry too too much about them though like training through specific levels and such. By far human training is the best from what I found...Lonk eventually picked up on short hop fall falling aerials in order to speed up his game! Ridiculous considering typical SSB cpus. At the very least mixing it up prevents them from developing canned strategies.

My Marth and Samus Amiibos both hit level 50 the other day. Their play styles are...weird.

Samus is extremely defensive and doesn't even do smash attacks. Did a 1 on 1 with her and almost 4 stocked her. She does better in free for all since that is what she was trained in.

Marth is just a pure punisher. Defensive like Samus but takes more chances on offense. He was actually a tough fight, but I can still beat him.

I don't know if they'll continue to change now that they're level 50 but yeah. Not sure what this says about my playstyle since they learn from me, but most of their fights were in 6 player smash against my brothers amiibos.

I picked up Link but haven't tried it out yet. It probably wouldn't have been my absolute first choice, but I can't pass up the spinner in HW. I was going to get a Kirby one as well, but I wasn't impressed with some imperfections on the ones they had, so I might as well wait.

These things are going to make cool little gifts though, I can tell that much.

I wonder how they will distribute it in other places, Europe for example. Xenoblade was never Gamestop exclusive here, so I somehow doubt Shulk is. At least I hope not!

Simple: Nintendo of America isn't in charge of selling things in Europe, so however the fuck NoE wants to.

Do we know if Amiibos continue to learn beyond 50?

My Yoshi has become an ice cold killer. I punished his rush-downs with one too many Mega Uppers and now he just tosses eggs with surgical precision until I approach. He's very adept at punishing. It's actually a pretty difficult fight.

Man, I can't wait to get Shulk. Sucks he is next year.

Getting him day one as well. I also will be getting mega man and ike also. Wave 3 is the only one that has characters that I am interested in.

Yes, in fact somebody answered that just three posts above yours.

Can you imagine Pokémon integration with Amiibo?

Transfer stats, moves, etc. to Pokémon Amiibo and then take your Amiibo with you to battle against your friends?

Especially with the N3DS' NFC reader, that shit would be hot...

Sorry, I am sure this has been asked 100 times but I don't know anything about Amiibos. Do I actually have to play, watch the matches that make them level up?

Or unlock Shulk himself. He was teased in the first trailer.

My Samus is the same way. She dances around way too much, and rarely goes for the kill move. If she breaks your shield (which happens regularly, since she's crazy strong), she just jumps around platforms until you recover.

My yoshi is more punishing. He'll go for more smashes, and he's a sniper with the eggs.

Probably getting Yoshi and Samus whenever there's some discount or deal. The functionality in Smash is fun the first day but it quickly wears off as it's not needed to beat any of the modes in the game. If, however, you can use the amiibo to playing co-op on everything THEN that'd be pretty interesting.

Alright, went ahead and preordered all the Wave 2 and 3 figures off of Amazon, though they don't have Little Mac, Captain Falcon, or Pit for preorder for some reason.

WHat's your deliver estimate on them?

I pre-order Little Mac like the day they went up and it just has a generic December 31st release date and a we have no fucking clue when this will be delivered delivery date.

Little Mac was one of the three it won't let me pre-order, so it won't show a date of release and definitely won't give me a delivery date. Not sure what is up with these three figures, given that you can order all the ones in Wave 3.

How are the amiibos around your area?

Are they sold out? Or far from it?

Anedoctal evidence time i wanna hear it

I saw Mario, Link, Yoshi, Kirby, DK, Samus, Pikachu, Fox and Peach so far.

Never managed to find Villager, WFT and Marth out of the 3 places I went though. I went to one Eb Games, one Gamestop and a Microplay stores. (Quebec, Canada here.)

I bought all of them last night. Got the last Kirby :)

The clerks were laughing about me, because I checked every figure for their paint jobs and other issues like ugly swords. Took me 45 min.

When I came home, I fired up MK8 and realized that C.falcon is in wave 2. I don't know why, but I was under the impression that all the costumes in MK8 would be wave 1 figures.

I was super sad. Now they are sitting in their boxes, I'll open the first one when my Smash Bros. pre load activates at midnight tomorrow night.

Also I got two Gamecube pads today.

What an investment. Woohoooo!

These seem to be a gateway drug. May I interest you all in some Figmas? Perhaps some Nendoroids?

Nendos are like crack. (Don't do figures, kids!!)

Just realized that I should probably pre-order Series 2 soon... Pit, Zelda, and Cap Falcon are probably gunna be the hard ones to find in that set. Not even sure if they are dated though? Or is it still just "Decemeber"?

December 14th.

Every store around here (Toronto) is overflowing with Peach, Pikachu, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Link, and Mario. The other 5 are completely sold out. And it's not to say the others haven't sold well, as they have - simply, there's just too much stock of these ones. I have a feeling they'll be around for awhile as the initial rush is over.

I have been to three stores with Amiibos since the launch:

I went to a Gamestop on Saturday and they had a partial supply that included 4-5 different characters and maybe 10 total figures.

I went to Nintendo World in NYC on Sunday and they had a full stock of every character. They were constantly re-stocking the shelves as people purchased them.

I went to a target yesterday and their stock was similar to the Gamestop stock. Partial stock of only some of the characters.

Both Target and Gamestop had separate giagantic shelves of Disney Infinity and Skylanders characters. TBH, the Amiibo racks looks kind of sparse and sad compared with the lush offerings from the other companies. It will be very interesting to see what sorts of numbers Nintendo can put up. I would see it as a major victory if they can even sell in quantities of the same order of magnitude of those guys.
