I think I've finally decided what I want to to with Amiibos. I'm only going to be buying my favorite characters and not every single one. That's going to save me money, but I'm still getting to urge to go out and buy the entire set. But I keep telling myself that there's going to be more beyond Wave 3...
It doesn't work that way.

You will buy them all.

New amiibo

You're in Smash Charlie Brown.

I swore I wouldn't give in and spend money on the Amiibos because I didn't really think they were good value for money at $13 each.

I took advantage of the Smash Bros $15 gift card offer at Target, though, and grabbed a Pikachu ambiibo with the card, and I am honestly glad I did.

For some reason it feels different than the usual AI opponents in the game, and at level 23 my Pikachu's giving me good fights that I actually enjoy.

I will be picking up a couple more amiibos after the holidays, for sure.

Yeah, they're excellent AI opponents. Way better than lv. 9 CPUs. I really enjoy trying to win against my Fox amiibo. We had some epic fights on the Pilotwings stage last night.

Only have 5 so far, but have some pre-ordered from the upcoming ones, had a a great 8 Player smash with them, my brother, and my nephew the other day, really enjoyed leveling them up.

I'm a little confused. Aside from being "collectables", what's the point of these aside from Nintendo making extra cash? The AI feature is something that's not unique. Did anyone play Virtua Fighter 4 or 5? They had an AI unit you programmed to fight too. You didn't need an extra memory toy for that feature. Or a cloud server.

I bought Yoshi. I only wanted it for my wife because she loves Yoshi. But I don't know why I'd ever buy another one.

I personally view them simply as toys for my shelf with some value-added DLC features.

Even though I personally like them, I wouldn't try to convince you that they are must-buy items.

Got the cutest one, Kirby, today.
Target was cleared out! But man, TRU was fully stocked. Had them all except Villager and Marth.

My Target had almost all of them when I went. I was torn between Fox, Pikachu, and Peach. The Fox scuplt is pretty good and he'll probably be my next one. I imagine he'll beat the shit out of me, though. I am NOT good at Smash. My level 21 Pika is giving me some tough fights. I'm getting better, though.

Meh, my Samus was fine yesterday and now she's visibly leaning to the left. What's up with that? Is the canon too heavy? Quite annoying, really.

My Villager arrived from Amazon UK today. Looks pretty good. That bad boy's staying in his box for the time being.

Popped into my local Sainsburys, which is a big store, that hasn't had any Amiibos (or Smash Bros Wii U) on the shelves since Friday. Apparently they didn't receive any (and they'd forgotten to put out Smash Bros!).

Nintendo in the UK, ladies and gents.

Pikachu and Fox are both really nice. Fox might be the most impressive looking, given the detail and his pose, but Pikachu is an exact replica.

So, what's the verdict? These Amiibos the real deal?

I'm a new Smash player and I can say that training with them helped me get better. Also erasing a few making them going back at level 1 so they can learn from your new way to play is awesome.

If you don't use them to progress I'm not sure it's that fun. Maybe when no friends are available so you don't have to play the game only when they want to.

If you don't like toys or collectible no need to buy more than one, maybe two.

So I've got an order for collection with Tesco (they claim to have Kirby and Villager for my tomorrow after 3pm but the site also says potential delay with collection stuff so I dunno). I think after that I'm done with Wave 1. Maaaaybe grab Mario and Peach. Maybe. Mario seems like a good front guy what with being Mario and that fire and pose is cool. If I was any good at painting stuff I'd definitely get one to make into Fire Mario.

So I'm guessing the release schedule will be something like this:

Wave 4, Mar/Apr, will finish 3DS starting roster:

Zero Suit Samus
Palutena
Robin
Charizard
Greninja
Olimar
Pac Man

Wave 5, May/Jun, will finish Wii U starting roster:

Bowser Jr
Ganondorf
Jigglypuff
Ness
Lucina (yeah I know she's unlockable, but she's been treated as a starter in pre release info etc so she can be used here to even out the numbers)

Wave 6, Jul/Aug, will finish the roster:

Wario
Mr Game & Watch
R.O.B.
Duck Hunt Duo
Falco
Dr Mario
Dark Pit

My lovely wife got me Kirby. I was only pondering whether to get it or not, but she just went ahead and bought it for me. Not only that, she picked the best Kirby I've seen. The seam in its back is well hidden. I actually thought it wasn't there.

So I think that's it for me for wave 1. I wanted to get Yoshi because I heard Yoshi was top tier, but I'm sticking to my rule of favourites only... favourites with a few more here and there.

I opened and use all twelve. Will do the same for waves 2 and 3. The memories of playing Smash/etc with my wife and daughters are worth far more than the $15-30 I could make off of a flip.

*tears up* Good for you Black Jack.

Well damn. Why would you guess the next waves being like this? Just curious.

Added Villager to my collection thanks to my girlfriend who surprised me with it after picking me up from work yesterday :D He looks pretty good minus a small scuff on his head (I like to think he had an accident with his axe...). I've only got 8 more to get from the first wave now :P

Amiibo checklists (taken from the reddit Amiibo community):

These things will be the death of me. It's hard for me to look at those checklists and not see myself buying almost every single one of them.

I need to rethink where I'm going to store these in my apartment.

EB Games in Canada got an email this morning stating that on December 12 only Zelda, Diddy and Little Mac will be released.

No word on Luigi, Captain Falcon and Pit...

They also said Zelda will be very limited. Also they won't be taking preorders in store.

It was kind of oddly amusing setting up an 8 player Smash last night with all Amiibos. I was all like "Yes! Dance my puppets, DANCE!"

...only in my head though. I didn't want to get that "You're an idiot" glare from the wife.

Hilarious. She doesn't understand the Amiibo thirst though.

On another note, I was thinking about the future line of Amiibo's. I'd like to think the unlock characters will have their own Amiibo because an Ike, Robin, and Lucina Amiibo is something I'd preorder in a heart beat. Anyone think Mew Two will be the last Amiibo released?

So, as far as in-game usage.... in Smash its neat. Very cool, but idk it doesn't seem super fleshed out or even essential. Seems like a neat tech demo tbh.

In MK8 its even worse - just gives you a cheesy outfit for a Mii racer (this could be neat to get some Kirby or Samus into Kart, but I picked up DK amiibo and it seems redundant since DK was in the same already!). I wish it would have been like a new set of wheels or a glider or something.

All in all, they are only $13 a pop. For that, you get an adorable and high-quality figurine that might have super awesome in-game functionality, or it might only have neat gimmicky functionality. Even in the worst case, I think they are very fairly priced collectibles.

Definitely worth picking up at least one!

Does anyone know if there well be a ZZS amiibo? I have yet to see any news regarding this.

Every Smash character will have an Amiibo except, maybe, the Mii Fighters.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I was rather confused because I didn't see one for her.

So I bought a Samus Amiibo the other night, no regrets. I thought she was supposed to stand straight upwards though. Mine leans to the side, is that normal?
She's supposed to stand straight yeah. Sadly that lean is probably the most common fault out of all the faults these figures can have.

It would be super cool if Nintendo did some kind of custom order service for mii amiibos. That way you can get an amiibo of your self in any mii fighting style you want.
