Is there anything to track? I have an in store pre order card says release is February 1st 2015.
 
Does anybody have any crazy stories from when Smash launched trying to get these? I was thinking of my story and how I would be so shit out of luck if I didn't do what I did.

I went to GameStop for the midnight launch and had 9 Amiibo's reserved. You can guess which ones I didn't have (holy trinity), and I wasn't bothered by it. But as I get there, I see they have ZERO stock of any of those three characters. Nobody reserved them and they didn't send any extra. Now I'm thinking to myself, shit, these things might be rare and hard to find. I happen to call up a nearby GameStop at 11:30pm and asked if they had any extra of the three. They had ONE extra of each Marth, WFT and Villager. Yes! I raced down there and got them in time for their midnight launch, then I raced back to my closer GameStop to pick up all the other figures and Smash.

I went looking around when I woke up the next morning at TRU, Target and Best Buy, and not a single Marth or Villager to be found. I saw 2 WFT's but since that day I've never seen them on shelves again. The Amiibo Madness is real.

Man if you think that's bad go check eBay. Pre-orders for her are going for 70 dollars.

Mac and Pit definitely seem like they'll be hard.

Luigi is going to be everywhere. According to that target tracked my local store has 22 lol.

So I'm thinking the ranking will go

Luigi
Zelda
Diddy
Falcon
Pit?
Mac?
 
Bought Captain Falcon today at Target. I had to ask since none were out, but they had a SKU for him. Saw Diddy Kong at a different target as well, but I passed since Toys r us shipped mine. I'm still looking for pit.
 
Yeah. At launch I went to TRU to get a Link for a friend as a gift. Then because they had the 3 x $30 sale, people were buying multiples. They had Marth, but the only thing that came to mind were the pictures of his face, so I put him aside. While going to pay I saw a cart with a Mario and a Villager there along other toys. That reminded me that there weren't any other Villagers, so I got him along Mario.

Sent him this pic on my way to meet with him.

Looked that way. They had Little Macs and Pits (no Luigi) behind the counter downstairs. Thats where they keep the limit 1 per person stuff.

ATTENTION SOUTH EAST TWIN CITIES MN GAF. I have a Target holding a Captain Falcon that I don't need anymore. First person to PM me gets the details on where it is.
 
i got my pit at nintendo world new york yesterday. they had a few behind the counter. Gonna go there from now on when they release the new waves. They seem to have abundant amount of little macs and diddy
 
Went to a store right when it opened and saw a guy buy every single Captain Falcon the store had. I imagine his intent is to surprise every member of his family with a Captain Falcon on Christmas morning.
 
Got one of the last 2 diddys

No pit, falcon, or mac left. Wish I had a car because I bet I would have gotten em if I came way earlier :/
 
AT this point, I'd wish I could preorder all wave 3 Amiibos...

I didn't intend to buy all of them, but currently, I'm at 13, and the one I miss are among the most common ones (Pikachu, DK, Luigi, Diddy) except for Falcon.

I bought a couple I didn't intended to at first (WFT, Marth, Little Mac...) but the scarcity made me jump boat "just in case". Nintendo is evil.

Well, technically, I bought my Pit (and a Zelda...) in a Toys R Us, but a french one...
 
I assume stores were getting inundated with calls asking whether or not the figures were in stock based on the online inventory checker
 
I haven't seen Pit at all anywhere. It's the last one to worry about until February. I know for a fact Pit has shipped to the GS I work at in Colorado.
 
I just got incredibly lucky and fortunate by a very honest employee at Target. I guess someone may have returned a Little Mac and he told me that he had saw one in a cart in the back aisles and I was welcome to rummage through them. Sure enough, there he was and Diddy too! This was the Target at the Lakewood City Mall in CA.

If you're in LA and want to get some Diddy's and Luigi's right now, another Target in Carson City-the Pavillion mall I think--had a good supply of them. No Falcons, Pits, or Macs there.

Forgetting the "edit", I started to snatch a couple of the rarest ones just to do this (offer them to gaffers that has troubles to find them), but since I found 17 out of 18 yesterday while hunting (the exception being Kirby), I guess that anyone interested in a european version of an Amiibo can probably find it without me :/

(granted, I only saw a single Pit, a single Mac and a single, damaged, Falcon, but I expect them to restock at least a bit... there were more villagers yesterday than on launch day, as many WFT, and half a dozen Marth)
 
So I went to check the Target on the way home (City ave phila ). At first i was bummed because once again no Falcon. Then while looking through the Disney infinity figures in my desperation to see if any one tried to hide one a purple box came into sight. I actually found a Falcon hiding behind the Disney infinity figures! :)

Did someone on Gaf hide this?

Only got Pit to go then wave 2 complete!
 
My launch (not lunch :p) story

I completely wrote Amiibos off. I thought they were dumb and from the promo pictures didn't look very good.

I saw them in person the weekend smash launched and thought they actually looked pretty cool. Saw everyone at my target, including 3 Marths, and thought people were exaggerating how rare they are.

The following week I bought a Donkey Kong.

Then, I had to order some Christmas gifts for myself from my mom (she always just hands me money and says get what you want and I'll wrap it lol) so I ordered a village and Samus from best buy.

Fast forward to today and I also have a Mac, Diddy and Falcon and my wife asked me what other characters I like (hmmmm I wonder why)
 
Just got my Captain Falcon. He's glorious. That's the only one I'm getting though, I'm not such a collector and I know they'd just end up in a box after a while.

Pretty impressed with how fast the NFC works. It's cool to see Punchbag level up with every couple of kills he makes. It's going to fun be until he overtakes me and 4 stocks me.

Edit: also payed €12,99 for him at Fnac. Cheaper than specialized game shops.
 
Went around to 12 stores at opening today, still no sign of 2B anywhere in Canada :/. None of the employees knew when to expect it—a lot of them had been looking for it themselves!

One EB employee told me another guy was in looking for them this morning. THAT guy had just come from Target, where apparently some asshat bought all TWELVE Luigi amiibos they had just gotten in. Fuck off.
 
My amiibo launch story is incredibly boring.

I pre-ordered the Smash bundle, and then Mario, Peach, DK, Marth, Samus, Link, Fox, Kirby and Pikachu. I told them to hold them for me at the store (best buy, GCU and the post office coupon got me mad discounts), and then on launch day went and picked them up. There were a bunch of people standing around the pick-up area doing who knows what. I walked in and walked out without waiting around.

Then a couple of days later TRU was having that 3 for 30 deal, so I got Yoshi, WFT, and Villager delivered to my home. A couple of days later was when everyone started figuring that things were going to be discontinued...
