Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

Got my Toon Link and Bowser today. I'm especially pleased with Toon Link because the sword is actually straight and not wobbly looking. Bowser is heavy as eff and kinda hard to pick up because of all his spikes though.

I now have my first Amiibo, and I'm kind of in fear for my wallet. These are nice.

So I've been pondering about those Gold and Silver Mario amiibos. Based on Skylanders special figures and my own baseless speculation, I've come to a few conclusions on what they could be fore.

Chase Figures
Chase Figures are well...things you chase after. Randomly inserted into boxes, they're generally found in every X amount (Skylanders usually does it one every 5 or 10 boxes). If they go this route, you can bet your whole collection they'll be snapped up by either employees or by employee friends before the even hit the shelves. If not, scalpers will arrive as soon as the stores open to check.

Giveaway
They could be giveaways for any number of things. Mario Party tour around the US? I think they did that for a few Nintendo games, and they'd just give away prizes for people who do well in them. Or, they could sneakily be Club Nintendo prizes. Or we could be looking at the first things for the "new" Club Nintendo service. It's interesting to note that they were produced in December and January, indicating that they've been producing them...I think they've had more production dates than like Little Mac and Pit. If so, there might be more than enough for people.

Store Exclusives
Skylanders has featured three "Chase" figures that were exclusive to a store. These are different from "Alt-Deco" figures, which are also sometimes exclusive and sometimes not. These chase figures are identical to a regular one except for an alternate color scheme. In game, they register the same, except for a "Special" or "Rare" tag on them. One was exclusive to Best Buy, and two others were exclusive to TRU. The BB one sold out shortly after it went on sale, and TRU can't even give those goddamn two away now. So if they end up being store exclusive, they could actually be really common or really rare. I'm hoping for the former.

Just been mulling over it. And if there's gold (and uh, silver) that means there's a whole mine waiting to be dug out. I'd guarantee that we'll be seeing more and more "chase" versions of characters.

Guys, the first three letters in Sheik are "SHE". It's Zelda. C'mon. You're being silly.

What happened to no more drama?

Good games, CaptainSchwann. Nice back and forth we had goin'. Definitely need to get used to your Ike. You're the first person I've played that mostly picks him! Such exploitability in his somewhat sluggishness, but he makes up for it by being just a freakin' powerhouse.

Good stuff!

Anyone here want to have a Smash with me online? I need to practice with a few characters.
Me and Schwann just got done with a session. I'd play with you, but I need to get to bed soon to wake up early.

Fun.

Maybe some other time, though. My NNID is Namagem, if anyone wants to add me. Just do me a favor and remind me you're from AmiiboGAF when making the request, it'd be very appreciated.

That's great, and Nintendo says a lot of things, which often get totally changed the next time someone is interviewed. See: Koopa Kids.

My own impression simply follows how Sheik is used within the games themselves, in dialog, cut scenes, etc. In the actual stories, it's a disguise to look like a ninja guy. So that's how I see Sheik.

But this is a thread about Amiibos, Sheik's Amiibo is from Smash, and she's clearly female in Smash. They game even says she is, and she has a distinct feminine appearance and voice (she has Zelda's voice actress).

These are her trophy descriptions in Melee, Brawl and Smash 4
This is Zelda's alter ego. Using a variation of the name of the ancient Sheikah tribe, she appears before Link and teaches him melodies instrumental to his success. It's believed that she's not just a quick-change artist, but rather that she is able to instantaneously alter her clothing and her eye and skin color by using her magical skills.
The persona Zelda adopted to escape from Ganondorf. She completely hid all traces of her Zelda identity and appeared to Link as the last member of the Sheikah tribe. She taught Link essential ocarina melodies and then vanished in an instant. She didn't appear very often--rather, she would show up to support Link in crucial situations.
In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Sheik claimed to be a surviving Sheikah. However, this was just a cunning disguise for Princess Zelda so that she could escape Ganondorf. In Smash Bros., she's the complete opposite of Zelda, striking with fast attacks that can keep an opponent off balance.

Every single time, she's clearly referred to as a she. Her redesign in Brawl, without a doubt, cements this visually as well.

This is also ignoring that Nintendo has said she's female, but I thought I'd bring this back to Amiibos.

The Sheik Amiibo, is, without a doubt, female.

I'll add you tomorrow if I can remember. I'm not that great at the game yet I usually main Lucina (my peach game is getting good though) so go easy on me! Lol

Awesome, let's give it a shot. I think it'd be cool to get 4 player going, but I can never seem to get that off the ground with folks here.

Wii U. And hopefully with custom moves on without any equipment equipped if possible.
No offense, but I absolutely refuse to use any custom moves whatsoever, as well as items and equipment. I tried it on the 3DS just to mess around for a tiny bit, then I was just "Done!".

I never liked the idea of the custom moves, personally. There's too much room for exploitation and broken tactics. I prefer to play as and against the characters as they were originally intended.

Sure, my Mega Man could have Tornado Hold as a recovery and do damage, or use Skull Barrier as a reflector, but it just doesn't feel right and I don't think they belong in serious competitive fights.

That's just my take on it.

No Custom Moves.
Max Speed Equipment.
Great Cave Offensive.
All items on high.

It's the only way to play.
That...sounds freaking insane!

Did you come up with that yourself?? That's nuts!

Tried it once with some friends when we wanted to screw around. It's absolutely horrible. No one knew what the hell was going on.

While I do get your POV, I feel it is a way to make characters that would normally suck become viable in tourney's like Palutena and Ganondorf while potentially improving on other characters default movesets such as Fox and Falco.

That would be absolutely insane. I must do this myself.

Yeah, I'd imagine. I have a special, simple match setup I tend to play with my one friend, and it gets pretty hilarious: Omega stage/FD, Time 5 min, Items High, only S Flags and Super Mushrooms.

It's pretty damn fun! Haven't come up with a clever name for it yet, but try it with someone sometime. With 3 or 4 people, it gets to be just a bit much, but I feel that with just 2, it's just crazy enough!

I gave my amiibo custom moves to see how well they use them. I think Shulk's Air Slash may be messing with him because he shouldn't be SDing by recovering from under Pokemon Stadium.

7 times in 4 minutes? He's got a poor rhythm going to say the least.

Yeah, I understand, hence why I mentioned possibly two of the coolest and most useful custom moves Mega Man can have. Having those would be incredible, but, flawed as he may be, his default is the specific version I focus on. Too many characters have "really good" moves for customs that, I feel, undo the natural balance of the game and completely change the game of each of them.

Default's where it's at. Though, as I said, I won't lie, it'd be really freakin' cool to have Tornado Hold. But I put all of Mega Mans defaults to good use, especially the oft-hatwd Leaf Shield!

so is it still possible to acquire a Villager from europe or something? I really want one and have procrastinated too long on trying to find one, mostly cause I gave up on any chance of finding him

I can't wait to play with all you guys one day...
It'll happen soon enough!

Btw, I posted here a night or 2 ago but you never replied:

I watched the first episode of Shaman King. Gave it a shot because of your recommendation. English dub, very late-90's/early 2000's dub, kinda nostalgic-sounding, like Digimon. Got that vibe from it. Though I'd never seen it, it seemed like I watched it back in the day just by the feel of it. Admittedly, it was late and I dozed off at parts, but I have to say, it was pretty neat.

Though, I'm surprised. I thought that brown-haired dude that was your avatar and plastered over everything Shaman King was the main character, but it's that weird sounding little guy with the clearly adult male voice? (Which is kinda jarring, but hey, this is a dub from more than 10 years ago)

Can't guarantee I'll see more just now, but I at least wanted to give it a try. I'd be down to watch more sometime. Dunno when, is all.

Yay :) glad you gave it a shot yeah I've had a ton of work lately basically all the time I'm on gaf im actually working too I have to have something like this to distract me on occasion because programming for hours straight hurts eyes and minds...

Oh man...I was told Mega Man wasn't out until the 13th. So I see here that he's out already, and I got a call from a local number I didn't recognize yesterday so I didn't pick up...that was totally the store, wasn't it? And it's been two days so they've totally sold off my preorder. That is, if they didn't do it the second I didn't pick up the phone, right?

I go to the store everyday seeing if I can get any new info for everyone... but yeah if its GS you get 2 days, BB is week, TRU is supposed to hold 7 days, Target holds are 24hrs, in store reserve cards are 48, Walmart is 24hrs not that target or walmart took in store preorders but ship to store is like a week hold, F.Y.E traditionally has held stuff for 48.

It's EBGames, so should be same as GS. Ore wa mou shindeiru.

I don't think that's what happened. Rumor was some TRU put some out in certain areas and then removed them till the 13th. BB is on the 13th and 20th.

So it looks like the Meta Knight amiibo FINALLY has a release date: February 20th ONLY AT BEST BUY in the US.

Still taken with a grain of salt of course but this is the only confirmation we have right now.

Okay, cool. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what happened...

...although I trust them as far as I can throw them, since the last time I called, when the first part of this wave hit, the guy said "oh yeah, it's here," then when I to to the store the same guy was like "oh, I think that one got pushed back."
