Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

No. I don't think you understand how the secondary market functions.

A Villager and Pit go for $50, for example.

You want Villager. You pay $50, or find a Pit that's worth $50. That extra Pit you have is worth $50 of goods. It's the same as $50 cash. This is basic economics. It's the same as cash and anyone that says otherwise is rather fooling themselves.

Especially so when this comes at the cost of someone who simply wants one but its sold out in 3 minutes. When you buy doubles, you deprive someone else and then profit with a rarer Amiibo.

You just keep pointing out arbitrary things that are there simply to make people not feel bad about what they are doing. It's OK if you do it. I'm not saying it's horrid or anything, but we have to call a spade a spade.
I have to say, your argument is rock solid, and I think I understand where you're coming from now.

I mentioned earlier that people buying in bulk just for trade fodder are doing more harm than help, but 1, maybe 2 or 3 extra? Do you really think these are the people who made Meta Knight sell out in 9 minutes earlier, or was it the people who exploited the system with different account st the ready to order 3 on many, many orders to be able to profit off of them? (People who do this for trading are no better either, mind you.)

I see no harm in getting extra for trade, because it means you can just exchange that simiarly valued item for another similarly valued item, not as a $50 chip to spend on goods and services. Again, I do get where you're coming from, but I fe that it's only the people who buy in bulk for whatever reason that are truly to blame for such rapid stock outages and hope to gain the profit.

Went to Toys R us to get Kirby( I totally forgot about him and I I thought I had all of wave 1) and they also had a Fox Mccloud in great condition hidden behind a bunch of commons. Today was a good day(besides the whole "The Last Guardian" thing)

No offense guys but can you all take this to PMs. We had a pretty lengthy discussion about this a few hours ago and it thankfully died out. Now it is back again and derailing the thread and filling up pages that people are trying to find Amiibo information in. These "Scalping" discussions have come up many times in many threads and I feel like there should be a GAF thread for people to go off in and talk about this as it is revisited quite often in many collectible threads. It can be filed next to the ethical/unethical point of view of taking part in pricing errors. I am no way trying to censor what is being said but i feel this is beating a dead horse. While this conversation may not have been had with Amiibos specifically it has been had with "insert collectible here." If I am speaking out of place tell me so and I will back off. I was just so happy when this died down earlier and we got a cute picture of a girl getting a Toon Link!

Edit:

Love the new thread title
Yeah, I hear ya. Sorry about that, I wasn't really around when all that was going down, so I was discussing it after the fact. I'll leave it be so we can focus on other more positive matters.

Didn't mean to stoke those flames again. Let's just move on!

Understandable. I get what you're saying as well, but for example, on the forum I was at, almost every single person was like "woot, got 3, 1 for keep, 2 for trade fodder" with Meta Knight.

Let's say only 100 got 3 each. That's 300 between 100 people, and 200 simply missed out and got nothing. While the 100 now have rare trade fodder.

I know there's abuse by people buying in bulk, and it's horrible but buying 2 or 3 extra doesn't just suddenly make it not horrible either, just less so.

@Nathan_Drake

Dude, just back off

Seriously though I get what you're saying and will try to end the the convo

From the Financial Meeting thread.
Well, this will be interesting. I imagine it'll be like Masterpieces from SSB?

Also calling it now, the games will depend on the amiibo (for the most part). Duck Hunt will allow you to try.......well, Duck Hunt. I don't know how it'll work for, say, Wii Fit Trainer or Villager.

I'm just impressed by how well my amiibo collection looks with the led lights set up.

In other news these finally showed up.

And BB finally started shipping my preorders. Sonic comes first. I'm eagerly anticipating Dedede and MK.

Can we assume then that they won't resupply amiibos like Little Mac and Pit if the cards are coming that do the same thing?
Most likely, yes.

...........BUT THE CARDS WILL BE COMPLETELY RANDOM AND THEY'LL BE JUST AS RARE MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

At Nathan_Drake's request, I'd like us to end this convo as well, so I'll just say that those people celebrating their "trade fodder" aren't helping anyone, because they might as well be "you-know-who" with his middle finger up at a bunch of rares in a box. That's just not needed and adds nothing to the community. Your math makes sense, and I will concede that yes, people buying extra are keeping them from those who would want to rightfully buy them, but, at the same time, they're also keeping them from being bought by scalpers to make crazy profit. It's not the ideal scenario, but at least through trading, you don't have to pay way, way more than the price of the amiibo, though iteans at the cost of someone not getting it in store.

And that's all I have left to say on that matter. Let's move on and leave the negative talk behind already, in honor of our soon-to-come OT4!

You are just being salty because you failed to respond to my kind at cost Lucario offer the other night. Or maybe you were just ignoring me! Also disregard my PM pertaining to Metaknight
bwahahahahahaha for real if I get that extra let me know if you are still in need.

GUYS. It just hit me.

What if this game that allows you to sample NES & SNES games is modeled after the Play-Choice 10, an arcade cabinet that was basically NES game that you could play as long as you had quarters, but now it's just amiibos?

Granted, I'm sure the idea is more based on Masterpieces from SSB Brawl & Wii U, but would be an awesome nod to one of Nintendo's older hardware.

NA gets 63% of all Amiibo shipments:

Pretty sure Japan is Blue, Europe Green, and Australia is Purple.

We get the higher shipment and yet they are still hard to find. It doesn't really add up. I know we have a higher population, but I don't feel like we are anymore Amiibo crazy than anywhere else.

It's been so long since I've had a Wario avatar though :c

maybe I'll go back to the WarioWare bomb, that would work nice with the amiibo logo.

Well, I think he just like your old avatar because he don't like the fact that everyone changed their avatars based on abysswolf's sprites for some reason. I guess he memorized everyone by their avatars by now so everyone changed their avatars threw him off. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You posted the pic in the Rayman thread and everyone went nuts. :p

I've been wanting to change mine anyways, I was using the Drago for so long now. Waaa.

Haha, I'm guilty for that. I just want SmashGAF to be back together and welcome new members into it for DLC Hype Train. It got fused too early. :(

Haha, you nailed it! I also felt that the name Drago fit with the green dragon avatar he had before.

But yep, you pretty much read my mind there.

I scalp for my friends
I fight for my scalp.

At least, you don't have to worry about me changing my avatar. :P

Awwright, I got you folks a challenge;

if one of you can make the base of this a Smash amiibo base and make an amiibo-fied avatar out of it, I will love you forever. :D

Where did that dragon came from?

Scalpers sure are dancing of joy with that limited edition amiibo confirmation... $1,000 each freaking figure probably. I'm done.

Where did that dragon came from?
it's a Mecha Drago, boss of Ch1 in Mother 3, my favorite game of all time. Had partial influence in my username. :)

This specific clay model comes from the Fangamer Mother 3 handbook, a labor of love guidebook to the game made by fans. Had tons of effort put into it, including a ton of new artwork and clay models for the main characters and bosses. Which reminds me, I need to buy a copy while they still have them in stock. Should do that this week...

If it's just the gold and silver Marios, then what the fuck ever. I don't need those. But if it's legit characters, I'm probably done once the SSB series is over. Assuming those figures aren't from that set.

If I was smart I would just keep a couple of my favorite amiiobs and sell my collection now before I go broke
not a chance in hell of happening.
