An Italian retailer opens Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders at €364.99

In Italy, GamesandMovies.it — which is a legit retailer based out of the European country — has pushed Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders live at €364.99. Currently, this translates to $379.77 USD. To this end, the price would suggest a $350 USD price point, as consoles are usually cheaper in the United States compared to other regions given the size and importance of the market. However, it could signal a $400 price point, but this is less likely.

It’s unclear if the Italian retailer is basing this pricing on rumors and leaks or if it knows something the general public does not. Whatever the case, it is notable because it is taking actual pre-orders for the console. In other words, this is not just a mere placeholder price. Those in Italy can buy the console for €364.99 right now.

Chances are this is nothing more than a calculated gamble from the Italian retailer to secure both attention and early pre-orders. However, even if is the case, this is the first instance of the Nintendo Switch 2 being available to pre-order, making it notable even if this does not end up being the final price of the new Nintendo Switch console.

At $350, this thing would be lower in specs than the LCD steam deck.

But yeah, Nintendo, Nvidia and Blah blah.
It’s going to have lower specs than the LCD steam deck and be $450.

It comes with a dock, cables, detachable controllers etc. (more stuff than “just” the console), and Nintendo is going to be making money of each unit sold from day one.

I give this a 0% probability.
Why? I said before, they've likely been sitting on this since 2022 for the price to hit a certain point.

Sony cut the price of the PS5 to $380 recently. Just $15 more. That price point is achievable. Let's see if Nintendo goes for it though.

That’s the price of the Switch OLED, no way they’ll go that low.

The only reason they’ve been sitting on it is because they have the luxury of Switch being the most successful platform they’ve ever released and still selling incredible. I don’t think that’ll make any difference to you and me, it’ll only mean Nintendo will get an even better mark-up than they would’ve if they had launched it earlier.

This time they went back to LCD to cut down on cost. That was also the price for switch OLED launch in 2021.

The luxury they had of sitting on it means they can achieve this price but I agree with you that they're more likely to opt for higher mark up, especially early on where sales are guaranteed. My guess will be anywhere around 399-450 euros.

IIRC the cheapest LCD Switch SKU didn't have it.

What? 2017 Switch systems came with the grip accessory, which is why I have two sitting in a box of random plastic. Unless they removed it later, which I doubt because it's in the photo on the front of the box. The only LCD Switch that didn't come with it was Switch Lite, which didn't have joycons and didn't connect to the TV.

Edit: ok Robb Robb already said the exact same thing lol

Then I likely misremembered, since original launch was nearly 8 years ago, and never bought one myself.
Yeah, I still have one that I got with my launch day Switch. So unless they removed it in some SKU along the way I think it’s always been included. Which makes sense since it’s always featured prominently on the packaging.

I believe Nikodemos was thinking of the Joy-con Charging Grip. That one needed to be bought separately.

Enjoy a full home-console experience anytime, anywhere!

Combine the left and right Joy-Con into one larger controller with this handy grip. It also lets you keep playing while you’re charging your Joy-Con, so you don’t have to miss a minute. Both Joy-Con controllers can be slotted into this accessory to create a new controller resembling the classic controller. Unlike the Joy-Con grip (bundled with the Nintendo Switch console), the Joy-Con Charging Grip can recharge the Joy-Con while you play, so you never have to worry about running out of power.

This is an Official Nintendo Product.

If anyone actually bought that charging grip then they deserved to get fleeced by Nintendo, come on.

For the price of the grip you could just get a third party wired controller to use while your precious joycon charge. And then have an extra controller, that wasn't made of joycon.

Or skip all the faffing about and get a pro controller

The € and $ price has typically been the same recently regardless of exchange rates or added tax in the US. I can see €/$364.99 and £349 although this is probably just a punt from the retailer.

Worst seller in history if his price prediction is that far off. Price is absolutely doable. Nintendo themselves won't know the price rn, they'll decide one day before the reveal event.

Zero chance.
Reality would have to hit me on the forehead with a brick to make me believe it. And a brick is exactly what you’ll get in the box if you buy from there and they honor the price.
€365 in this economy for a Nintendo handheld with new Joycon gimmicks and a TV dock means this thing is more obsolete tech than OG Switch was in its time. Come. ON.

For $350 there's a good chance this will be OLED day 1.

Amoled mobile displays are much cheaper these days (if you know the right suppliers in Shenzhen you can get one for $35 off the shelf, unscaled) and are more common for that size needs than LCDs. It's the mobile sector and OLEDs are standard.

Boys, I know this eShop pretty well since I'm in Italy.
They have some really good prices and sales when it comes to software (as an example, they sell Dynasty warriors Origins new/sealed for 60€ while it's 80 everywhere else) but - and this is a big "but" - they also have...shall I say, "dubious" practices where they put out preorders for games that have been only announced and obviously could be coming...3-4 years from now, frankly, that's almost a scam since you don't even know if the company is still going to be operating by then.

Everyone should take this with the biggest grain of salt basically.

Just my 2 cents
