Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S.

Nintendo its just genius really..

N: Console is 450!
-shit! Omg expensive console! Fuck nintendo

N: Wait... tariffs... halt pre-sales.. the consoles will probably cost more!
-shit! Even more??? Fuuuuck nintendo and fuck Trump!

N: Nah.. just kidding.. it will be 450! But please buy fast because mayyyybe it will cost more in the future.

- OMG!! I love nintendo.. thank god for them and this 450 console .. its really a good price.. better buy fast. Pre-ordered!
$450 for 3.1tf hybrid machine with DLSS and RT is a good price.

Steam Deck a generation behind Switch 2 in power is at $420.

I suspect that will increase by year's end in US with them blaming tariffs. Nintendo is getting quite greedy.
What do you mean blaming tarrifs? It is tarrifs. it is a problem when you get 10% increase on imports, and China is at above 100%. Should Nintendo be benevolent and just absorb the costs?

Yup, this is going to be something that takes a few months or even a year after its released for the ones still reluctant to realize, but I agree 100% as someone who bought both the LCD and OLED Deck, and loves the OLED Deck.

And I'd agree with that undocked, but docked there's absolutely no contest, it may as well be 2 generations behind the Switch 2 I feel.

But even after the Switch 2 releases, despite it being able to run games better, and be a better, more efficient portable, the Deck still has all its advantages at the end of the day, and the Deck - kinda similar to the Switch 1 - was never really about power in the first place.

It's very difficult to get info on if it's fixed, doesn't sound great so far though;

Which would be a shame considering Nintendo claims to have designed everything from the ground up again, in which case I guess they don't view it as an issue/it's intentional..

That would definitely be a shame. I can't play Tetris on the Pro Controller because it frequently misreads my inputs and hard drops when I'm just trying to move a piece. It also just generally feels spongy and inaccurate.

It's true but also the steam library and pricing has way more to offer than switch 2. Switch 2 Cyberpunk and FF7 remake would cost 70 dollars I'd imagine vs both probably get to 20ish dollars on steam sales regularly. A lot of considerations.

I mean ultimately you buy Switch 2 for Nintendo games. Cyberpunk 2077 might be a good trip companion if you buy only one handheld, but you don't buy the console for that ( i hope)

Steam deck's purpose is an extension of your steam library on the fly. Its cool, but they're really different purposes.

Compared to US Japanese pricing is $130 or so lower. EU pricing is 20% lower due to VAT being included. Price was determined before tariff and currency fluctuations and Nintendo is trying to take their profits in the NA market (CA pricing also seems like a ripoff).

I'm talking about the new changes, which were caused by tarrifs.

The Switch is 299 euro in Europe, regardless of VAT.

The Switch in Japan is at ¥29,980, which was 260$ in 2017, and now is 200$. You can't just up the price in a crazy amount just because the Yen devalued. The NS2 is ¥49,980, which is 340, but it's 20K more than the OG. You can't go all ham.

NS2 is 100 more than OLED. I think it makes sense.

The previous prices weren't impacted by tarrifs, but the accessory price increases are caused by the China tarrifs.

I would wager they are also there to keep Nintendo margins large. Nintendo isn't seem to be willing to eat any of the cost at all.

You would also miss improved DPad (which did not work well on the old Pro Controller) and improved haptics, which on the old Pro controller were a bit weak. Likely Nintendo used the same actuator as the much smaller and lighter old JoyCon in them.
Sounds awesome glad I have ordered one. But just thinking the original pro controller is a decent cheaper option for some.

This console pre-order was really smooth. I wonder if it's because the US pre-orders were delayed.

It's the same thing no?

Tarrifs will lower profit margins. Nintendo will eat the extra cost on the Switch 2, whereas on accessories they are only eating some of the cost and passing the rest along to customers to maintain margins.

How large the margins are is unknown.

And of course this depends on what the final tarrifs are.

September at the earliest, Drag x Drive (confirmed for summer) will release in August.

Yes you're right, I was thinking that was digital only.

So, Nintendo buried the information in an Ask the Developer interview for some unknowable reason, but they have confirmed that Drag X Drive is a digital-only game:

Makes me think they might have withheld the release date because they know they'll get more people to check it out if it's an "Available Later Today" announcement during the June Direct.

That said, Nintendo has skipped releasing games in August in some previous years, so the Switch 2 Edition of Kirby might be their only release. (In 2017 they technically didn't have an August first party release, but Ubisoft dropped Mario X Rabbids that month, so it's kind of a grey area.) Regardless, I don't think a Metroid Prime 4 August release is totally out of the question.

Nintendo probably understood, correctly, that most people were not going to pay $600+ for a Switch 2, no matter what kind of justification they would try to give for it. Raising accessory costs by $10-15 is annoying, but it's way less of a sticker shock by comparison.

They've raised the price of everything except the console for now...

Holy shit, I haven't collected amiibo since the Wii U days but I thought they used to be like $12.99 USD? I can't imagine paying $40 for an Amiibo, they don't even really do anything anymore (that I'm aware of?)

The rising prices and people scalping rare ones has pushed me towards getting an Infc Pixl instead.

They still do something in games, but mostly only Nintendo games.

Let's hope so as that would help a lot.
In addition to the other link already posted here by Robb Robb here is the one from Nintendo NA which details compatibility:

They point out that they can be paired just fine, but can't be attached (duh) or charged from the Swich 2

Thanks for the link!
Now, that I know for sure that the Pro Controller is fully compatible, I am less hesitant to buy a Switch 2.

That's good. Between compatibility with S1 joycons and decent Chinese controllers (Gamesir, 8bitdo), there is no need to grab Switch 2 "Pro" controller.

I just picked up a nice controller from Gamesir with gyro, Hall effect sticks, etc… for under $50.

Not sure what happened.

But ordered from Spain to Colombia and no EU tax was discounted.

May be this news is related?

Damn. I mean, sure, I don't think anyone gives a fuck about Drag x Drive, but that sucks for the sake of preservation and reselling, especially considering that they will probably charge $40 for it, lol.

That's a bummer, not gonna lie but I was looking forward to the novelty of having the wheelchair basketball game on my shelf

Preorders online are starting on Best Buy, Target, and Walmart at 9pm Pacific time and midnight eastern time tomorrow (Wednesday night). Was kinda bummed at first because I had to be at work at the exact time preorders go live. Fortunately my coworker said they'd stay for an extra hour for me, haha. Awesome. I'll be ready on my computer when the time comes.

Gamestop online preorders don't start til later in the morning on Thursday. Around 8am pacific I believe.

Going to attempt to pre order from best buy in store tomorrow at open. Hoping they will let me get 2, if not I head to gamestop or try target for the second one (1 for my daughter, 2 for me)

Will do allow you to preorder in the store or is it online only?

I'll try Target tonight as that is where I would prefer to get it (they don't actually charge until shipping).

Do the accessories go up for preorder tonight too? or just the console?

Be careful with Target, Bestbuy and Walmart.

They don't actually "charge" your card but they do frequent "authorization checks" where they will temporarily "freeze/hold" the full amount for a couple of days and if your account does not have that full amount they may potentially cancel your order.
