9.0 Presentation
Gorgeous meny work, lovingly created characters, and a fantastic variety of worlds to explore. Plus, the DK Bongos are a collector's item.

9.0 Graphics
It's a side-scroller platformer in 3D, which means that its make-up is simple. Still, the visuls are clean, detailed, and beautiful. Models are amazing. Environments. varied. And at 60 frames.

8.5 Sound
Very appropriate tropical music complements a funny mix of apish growls and cartoony sound effects. Runs in Dolby Pro Logic II.

9.0 Gameplay
Don't be skeptical. Jungle Beat is great fun. Deep, rewarding combo and medal systems will keep you coming back for more. But the Bongos may not be any better than a regular controller.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
Short, but sweet. Novices will probably never discover the extra levels, or deep combo system, but they'll have fun anyway. Core gamers can up the replay value point by one.

8.8 OVERALL

Closing Comments
Nintendo's Tokyo Studio is now officially on the map. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is not perfect. It's relatively short, especially if you don't have the skill or patience to collect all of the medals. There's no multiplayer mode. And I'm still not convinced that the DK Bongos are a more intuitive alternative to the standard GameCube controller. But you know what? This is a great game through and through anyway. The title is surrounded by polish, from the slick menus to the gorgeous in-game models and beautiful, varied, and sometimes-downright psychedelic level designs. But more, it's immensely enjoyable to play, which is what ultimately counts more than all the rest. Beginners will have fun with Jungle Beat's crazy moves and surreal worlds, and pros will grow to adore the title's phenomenally deep combo and medal systems, which go hand-in-hand to extend replay value.

Jungle Beat is a surprisingly addictive and well-made platformer with a unique control twist. Anybody who says differently either didn't take the time to really play it or has no business playing games.

Buy it.

That's what I like to hear! Rating a game on it's actual entertainment value, and fun factor. Plus one for IGN.

Translation: "That's what I like to hear! A review that matches up with my personal opinion! Plus one for IGN."

The way IGN Cube has been going I actually expected a lower score.

Shit, if they kept IGN Cube from going on another weekly rant I'd FDA approve them.

I skipped this whole thread, but DK:JB is very good game. One of the best platformers I've ever played and it's intense as hell (I actually had to stop playing once because one of my hands started bleeding).

It's not really that short as getting all the final levels takes skill and time. I played it casually and the game took me about a week and was incredibly fun the entire time.

I'd put it right behind RE4 as GC GoTY2005

Overall, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a scream...for the first eight levels.
OK. This is what we've been hearing. It obviously depends heavily on how much you enjoy the experience, if you're willing to play it repeatedly or not.

This is really one of those games where you really cannot trust any reviews. Whether they are high or low. This game is obviously going to be a different experience for everyone and that is really how the reviews should be approached as well. Hell, i'm picking up the set with the bongos because I need a second set of bongos anyway.

This is why I had no interest in the bongo games after E3. They hurt my mitts.

Jesus, you don't have to wail on the thing THAT hard.... You can just use your fingertips. I use 2 fingers on each hand. But I take better care of my stuff than most people do.

Brings back memories of Mario Party. Nintendo is the industry leader in masochism.
