IGN gives Switch 2 a 7.0

I don't think consoles should be graded like that. Because it's about the software, it's about the line up. That's what gives it value.

A bad hardware can eventually be very worthy depending on the games. So it makes no sense to grade a platform like that. It's about the entertainment..

Maybe ign wanna start a fanboy world war 3 :lollipop_squinting:

Imagine if all the media start giving scores to consoles...

Honestly it's been fuck Nintendo for a minute with me. I got the first switch at launch it was basically a smash bros console. Since I got PS5 and a PC after that it's been collecting nothing but dust. I dunno I feel like I've outgrown them and at this point the only time I see me buying one is if my kid wants one. Plus I'm not willing to spend that kind of money at 700 dollars Cad on a Nintendo console when I could put that towards a pc.

As much as I am enjoying the Switch 2 it feels more like a mid-gen refresh. 7 is not a bad score as there are areas for improvement eg OLED Screen, improved battery life.

I think it's a pretty fair review. My only complaint about it is the insistence to complain in the review about the upgrade not showing anything new visually/ performance wise compared to existing consoles. Anyone who games regularly already knew this was not going to push PS5/XsX levels. For me, the visual upgrade from last gen to this Gen for Sony and Microsoft wasn't that big of a deal. Therefore, I'm perfectly content with a Nintendo console that will perform similarly to last gen and play my PS5 Pro for 3rd party games that push console technology.

Couldn't give a flying fuck what those hacks say. Switch 2 is EASILY better than the Switch, in terms of updates for games to run at optimal frame rates, the speedy UI and for having far more power. It's a beautiful little handheld that I am so excited to see what this thing can do with gaming in the future. For now, give me Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime 4!

Reviewing hardware that is out for what, 2 weeks? How is that of any help to anyone, boggles the mind.
Because switch 2 life span 1 month right ?

Initial sales would have been sold out even if they gave it 2 out of 10 and even if it was a disaster of the system . Fk even the ps3 was sold out day one and that was 600$

I mean you judge a console at the end of the generation. It hasn't launched with much and there are great games out so far. Not to mention the price point.

7/10 is about how I feel about it. But it's about what's to come, not as it stands right now.

Its like reviewing a container, without knowing what the content in will be throughout its life

Anyway, I guess that's easy clicks
But they are reviewing the hardware, not software. Its not bad hardware because it got a 7 but it isnt a massive jump either from Switch 1 nor as revolutionary and new concept as before. Its perfectly normal to review HW (ps5 and xsx) even before release because that is what they are focusing on, the internals. I mean what are they supposed to do, wait 4 years like for SONY until killer games start comign out?

A rare fair take from IGN. The console is a fine upgrade, if a little uninspired and safe. I'm surprised they also didn't put more effort into ergonomics of the Joycons after all these years. Always found the flatness to be really uncomfortable to use, never mind the use of non hall effect sticks, again. Which is a lost opputunity from Nintendo. I'd sacrifice some space savings for some proper grips and a bigger battery for more performance on-the-go and battery life.

I don't think IGN cares too much about Nintendo. They seem to have a more 'edgy' teen audience.

NVC - Nintendo Voice Chat is their most popular platform specific podcast.
They def care about Nintendo, it drives traffic, traffic brings money, they like money.

Whats weird is that Unlocked(their Xbox podcast) has become more popular than Beyond(Playstation podcast) in the current generation.
Playstation not announcing enough stuff??

How can anyone judge the jump from switch 1 with day 1 releases?

That would be like judging day 1 switch 1 games with the impossible ports it got later on. No cyberpunk 2077 is not the system maxed out. This hardware will benefit most from devs using mesh shaders to begin with.

IMO it's more of an upgrade to Switch one than PS5 is to PS4 and Xbox Series to XBone. More tangible. If you want to compare it to a phone upgrade, I think it's much more apt for the Sony and MS boxes.

The switch 2 does nothing unique or different and is more like a switch pro than a switch 2 tbh. Add to that 80 dollar games, a terrible and garbage launch lineup, and a terrible online network and you get a mid console. I can't believe i agree with IGN on this.

That's the same score they gave the original Switch at launch.

They should have leaned into the bit and reused the old review and just tacked on a section about mouse mode.

I'm enjoying my Switch 2 but it really does feel like a Switch Pro and the Zelda upgrades don't help me change that decision much, yes they look and play better but that's it.
But where else am I going to play the next Zelda, Mario etc?
But they really need to step up because a lot their Switch titles such as Mario Golf and Tennis were poor substitutes for what they should have been.

The mario sports games on the switch were all worse than the prior entries. They strip away content from the base game at launch and then spread it out as 'free' dlc later when in reality all of that stuff and more should've be their at launch for the base games. And even with all the 'free' dlc added, the games were still worse than prior entries.

Because as I said its not revolutionary, battery life isnt anything to write home about, joycons are just different design but their concept is prettymuch the same, its an LCD screen in 2025 etc. Again, why is it always Nintendo that deserves a pass but every other hardware is ok to judge day one? They review hardware based on pricing which isnt good at all. people are making comparissons to Steam Deck, a 4 year old system. Only Nintendo will get best looks for their own games but at the same time, their games were never high-poly, bustling cities, massive destruction creations, even Mario Kart World looks like MK8.5

Switch 2 is the safest, least impressive Nintendo console to date. Theres nothing here to give it a 9.

Review, conclusion and score seems reasonable to me. There are issues with LCD, there are crashes, thing sometimes overheats in the dock, and there are barely any new launch titles.

It's a good device but a 7 or 7.5 doesn't mean it's all of a sudden terrible, just needs some work.

They could review it in a year and give it higher score I am sure once some teething issues are resolved and number of games for the platform increases.

I mean, if laptops and TVs get reviewed, why not a game console?

multiple things to hinge a review on. Power, user experience, ergonomics, power consumption, aesthetics, launch software stability etc

Not the review. The score. It's meaningless. Numerous laptops and TVs are scored every year and so that's easily compared if someone wants a number to judge them by. Typically we get one console a decade from a company. 7/10 means nothing.

I mean that's what everyone does now. they know people will click on their link if they say something controversial about the what ever the BIG NEW THING is.
Is it controversial though? I think 7 is a perfect score for the Switch 2. It's just a Switch 1 with modern specs and that means it inherits basically all of the positives while also fixing some of the negatives.

BUT it has a mediocre launch lineup and it's not exactly exciting. Once the novelty wears off it's just another Switch. A score of 7 is by no means a bad score.

I'm gonna elaborate on the launch lineup comment because I bet people will have issues with it.

27 games
  • Mario Kart World
  • Two ports of previous Zelda games. One of which is 3 years old and the other 8 years old. Great to see them at 1440/60 but they are the same games we played on Switch.
  • 3 shitty ports of GameCube games from 20 years ago.
  • 1 new JRPG, 1 remaster of a JRPG from the 3DS, and a collection of old JRPGs that were on other platforms for months.
  • 6 month old Sonic game
  • 5 or more ports of games that were on other platforms a couple months prior
  • 5 ports of games that are anywhere from 1-3 years old and are on every other platform.
  • A couple indie games
  • 33 year old racing game port
  • $10 manual
It's still a good console and I still bought one day 1 (midnight release) because I know I'm gonna get good exclusive titles.

are they wrong? 7 seems generous for a device without an oled, the weird hdr shit, the vrr issues, how they shipped them to be easily damaged, the high price for new games, the no games on cards,

You know what? Let me stop listing issues. This thing is a 5/10 at best and fuck Nintendo for being worse than EA and Ubisoft put together.

And fuck me more for still wanting to buy one.

Wtf?
This is it man.
I just threw my switch 2 in the fucking trash.
