And so the E3 2016 Hype Begins

Not open for further replies.
This is the second E3 I'm gonna watch, so since last year's was GOAT, here are my hopes/predictions:

Sony:
- GOW IV, out next year (guessing fall)
- Rogue galaxy 2 collab with Level-5 (just now playing first one, it is GREAT!) or other Level-5 collab (I believe in you, Verendus!)
- Uncharted IV story DLC
- Horizon: ZD demo and release date (some exploration features culminating in a kind of boss battle (like thunderjaw) and a 2016 date is what I expect)
- Sony Bend (never played anything by them, so wonder what they can do)
- FFVIIR gameplay + release year first installment, followed later in the week by price bomb of $60/€60 per installment :( (though probably not surprising)
- No Man's Sky shows up with an oddly out of place story trailer like last year at PGW
- PS4K revealed, is not a system with improvements to regular games, PS4 or PSVR (just not feeling that Sony would take such a giant risk, despite what numerous sources claim), instead only 4k video capabilities and maybe PS2 emulation benefit from the new hardware
- GT Sport release date holiday 2016, beta coming soon after E3
- The last guardian shows gameplay, and gives a definitive release date (I literally do not know where to place this game on the calendar)
- PSVR showcases for roughly 20 minutes, and shows nothing that does not seem gimmicky to the uninitiated (i.e. who have not tried it yet)
- Shawn Layden comes on stage, wearing another teaser as a shirt, while announcing Crash Bandicoot (Believe!)

Bethesda:
- Dishonored 2 for 2017
- Fallout 4 DLC plans for 2016 and beyond (I expect 3 bigger packs comparable to or slightly smaller than Far Harbor: they'd better for that ridiculous price hike)
- No Elder Scrolls 6, teased or revealed (sad but completely understandable: would only take away from Fallout 4 and ESO and is probably nowhere near even a sneak peek showing yet)
- New Wolfenstein game (a great may 2017 game?)

Square Enix:
- Nier Automata (release date Fall 2016, still not committing to either PS4 exclusivity or PC version)
- Same trailer and info on FFVIIR as Sony conference (WTF Square?)
- E3 push trailer for I am Setsuna (gameplay with narration probably)
- Kingdom Hearts III release date (2018 earliest I feel)
- FFXV gets long trailer (more than five minutes) and a new demo with full length actual gameplay available
- Square has no confidence in Western desire for DQXI, and does not show it again until TGS 2016
- Star ocean V has a large presence, to bump awareness before July 1st release date

Nintendo:
- NX revealed: power very comparable to current gen, gimmicky controller, out this fall
- Zelda makes me seriously consider getting a nintendo platform to relive my Twilight Princess moments from youth (quite nostalgic for that game), launch game
- Stunner: Fire Emblem for console? (absolutely loved Path of Radiance on Gamecube, wish it happened again)
- some kind of pokémon game for the NX (of course not a turn-based handheld style one, perhaps some Pokken-inspired real-time pokémon battle rpg? LOL if only...)

Microsoft:
- Recore release date: august/ early september 2016
- Scalebound gameplay without the framerate problems
- Gears of 4 shows combat footage, reconfirms release date of October 11 2016
- Forza Horizon 3, no surprises
- Cuphead shown, no firm release date
- Crackdown 3 multiplayer showing
- Halo wars 2 gets short gameplay trailer and early september release date (out of the way of Gears of 4)
- UWP released basic features like V-sync, but introduces new game-breaking issues with that
- All games shown, indie or AAA, are also available on PC day 1

EA:
- Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay, stuns everyone with (PC) visuals

Expect great showings all around, hope for some more surprises (Persona 5, where art thou?) to occur.

Was it Square Enix last year who almost had their press conference at the same time as Nintendo's? (I feel like it changed at the last second, but I could be wrong) Any chance Square Enix will host another conference?

So, I've not really been following gaming news as much as in previous years because my life got busier. So my key prediction is that this will be the E3 of games I'd just assumed had come out without me noticing. I expect I'll see No Man's Sky, and Uncharted 4, and World of Final Fantasy and think 'huh? Those still didn't come out yet?'

I also expect I won't hear much about my most anticipated games. Persona 5 will get a dubbed version of one of the earlier trailers and no European release date; and Ace Attorney 6 will be included in an also coming to 3DS sizzle reel.

Finally, I predict that since E3 will be the week after the end of my final University exams I won't even be trying to catch most of it live this year; since I'll be too busy at parties and stuff saying goodbye to all my friends.

Yeah that was Square Enix, and they did move the time in the end.

I'm hoping they do have another conference, the more the better!

I wonder if Sony will be doing their E3 experience shows again this year, wonder when tickets go up if they are.

I am expecting to see:

New Unannounced Games

  • New game from Volition
  • New game from 4A Studio (Metro RPG?)
  • New game from WB Montreal
  • At least 3 unannounced AAA games from Ubisoft (AAA online project, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and end conference surprise)
  • At least 3 unannounced AAA games from EA - beside sport games (Bioware new IP, Visceral Star Wars game and BF5)
  • Something RDR related (RDR Remastered hope :D)
  • At least one new AAA game from Square Enix
  • At least 2 unannounced AAA games from Bethesda (Machine Games title and Tango Games title)
  • New game from Techland?
  • New DmC game
  • Multiple games from MS/Sony/Nintendo (new IP and sequels)

Update for Announced Games

  • Dishonored 2 gameplay and fall release date (my guess October/November)
  • Deus Ex MD gameplay
  • Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay and release date
  • Ghost Recon Wildlands gameplay and fall release date
  • Watch_Dogs 2 gameplay and fall release date
  • For Honor gameplay and December release date
  • South Park FBW gameplay and early 2017 release date
  • Mafia 3 gameplay and fall release date
  • TLG gameplay and fall release date
  • Horizon Zero Dawn gameplay and release date
  • Sea of Thieves gameplay and release date
  • Gears of War 4 gameplay and PC announcement
  • Fallout DLC update
  • ...

That is what I was able to remember at this moment XD There are probably many other things that I forgot to mention.

I don't have super high expectations.

I'd like to see Dishonored 2, Final Fantasy XV and maybe some Dragon Quest game. Hopefully something on Ni No Kuni 2 and Nier Automata.

More info on Obsidian's Tyranny would also be good.

I will follow it as usual, but I haven't hyped it up much in recent years.

Nintendo needs to have a full stage conference for NX reveal. It would probably be televised on Spike like their E3 2012 conference was leading to more exposure.

Fully expecting an announcement this month saying no NX news at E3

GAF gonna implode

Nintendo long ago confirmed they would discuss NX at E3 this year.

Sea of Thieves' me hearties.

And I definitely want a "and one more thing" moment from the MS, Sony and Nintendo conferences.

I basically want surprises, lots of surprises.

All I care about is NX, Zelda, Red Dead 3, and CD Projekt Red's new game.

Not sure if Rockstar will do E3 and announce RD3 there. They kinda like to do things on their own at least with GTA. CDPR announced they would be bringing a game out in 2016. Not sure what it is gonna be but I guess they'd announce it during E3. I'm not talking about Cyberpunk 2077 here but if we got a glimpse of that too that would be awesome.

I'm most looking forward to Treehouse LIVE@E3 for 3 days (more than the Nintendo conference/digital event itself).

Last year was a bit meh due to the lack of new/good announcements..

...but this year they'll have an entirely new console and all its software to cover + plus the first in-depth look at Zelda.

It's the first time they'll have covered entirely new hardware.

Personally I hope most for Saint's Row 5, Red Dead remaster (havent played it on PS3/360) and GTA V SP DLC.

I've given up all hope on GTA V SP DLC at this point. I'd like to think it will happen but i ain't gonna do that to myself. Haven't played GTA V in a while. Completed the story 5 times and Online just doesn't do anything for me. I need more single player content.

Oh, but it's a very very slim chance that SP DLC will happen.
And that's so weird, I understand that online is very profitable (micro transactions) and making people buy the game by seeing twitch users play the game together etc, but I also believe that there are millions of people who bought the game and don't care about online.
I personally would play through the whole game again on PC if there's a big SP DLC pack. Imagine a SP season pass and new good content every month or so... It would easily sell millions.

Actual E3 starts June 14th.

Afaik only EA will have their pre-conference on June 12th. MS, Ubisoft and Sony (in that order) are expected to do their shows on June 13th, with Nintendo following June 14th.

E3 starts the moment the first press conference starts, meaning, June 12th.

It even starts before actually, plenty of smaller games are revealed or existing not incredibly hyped games get some new trailers, couple of days prior to E3 as they want to get all the attention before the chaos begins.

New GOW, New South Park gameplay footage/release date and R* reveal (probably RDR2) is what I'm looking forward to.

I want to know what the hell is going on with this new Crash Bandicoot project that's seemingly being teased at every opportunity right now. The game is a thing, that's no surprise, but what excites me much more are the circumstances under which it came to fruition and who's developing it. A Sony/Activision partnership is the most probable outcome, but there have been signs which lead me to believe that Sony own the rights now, or at least will when the game is officially announced. That would be massive right there.

More Last Guardian and Shenmue 3 please! Barely any news about them since last E3.

I'd love to see something from Cypberpunk, but it's unlikely as they said they won't show anything this year. Would be a lovely surprise though.

Expectation and hopes:

Bethesda:
As Fallout and ESO don't interest me one bit, I'll be watching for Dishonored 2 gameplay and reveals for MachineGames' next (Wolfenstein 2?) and hopefully something from Tango.

EA:
Their conference last year was pretty shitty and you always have to deal with their boring sports segment, but the Mass Effect Andromeda blow-out should be good. Interested in seeing the setting for the new Battlefield and Titanfall 2 is something I definitely want to see. Hoping for Visceral's Star Wars.

Square-Enix:
I just hope they'll do another conference as the one they had last year was pretty good. Hitman, Nier: Automata and Kingdom Hearts 3 are the big ones for me.

Ubisoft:
Expecting more Ghost Recon and the excellent looking For Honor. I also expect we'll get to see the debut trailer for the AC movie here and perhaps a teaser for next year's game in that series. The likely conclusion to their show is Watch_Dogs 2. A new Trials is also likely.

Microsoft:
Scalebound and Crackdown 3 are all I need, so hopefully they won't be pushed to Gamescom again. Apart from that, I'd like for Gears 4 to make an impact and I would like to see ReCore gameplay. That and a new trailer for Inside, it's been too long.

Nintendo:
The big one in many ways. A new hardware reveal, I hope it's a good one. Apart from that I want Zelda to make an impact, a look at a new 3D Mario, the Beyond Good & Evil 2 rumors to be correct, Bayonetta 3 and a look at whatever Retro is cooking up.

Sony:
The most interesting one for me, if only because there is so much Sony could show. I just hope we won't get too much PSVR, it doesn't demo well.
I expect Dreams, GT and Detroit at Gamescom/Paris, so what will they show?
My guess is a new Last Guardian trailer with release date, a new Horizon demo that shows NPC interaction and some new mechanics. I'm hoping for dino riding.
I expect we'll finally get to see what Bend is working on, Crash lives and God of War Odin Smash will be the big ender.
We'll also get to see what PS4K entails and I hope to see something from FROM again. A Bloodborne 2 tease would be awesome, but I'd settle for a Demon's Souls remaster as well.

As for third-party reveals, I'd be happy with DMC 5 and anything from FROM or Platinum.

Hyped for the NX reveal. Hyped for the Watch Dogs 2 reveal. Hyped for possible Crash Bandicoot announcement. Hyped for Sonic 25th Anniversary gameplay.

I'm excited for a lot of things, but if Red Dead Redemption 2 is there nothing else really matters to me, that will take all my focus.

I'm just waiting for the last Wii U games to come out and then be done with gaming until VR matures in 2 to 3 years.

- Zelda U
- Paper Mario U
- Pikmin 4?
- Project Giant Robot
- Animal Crossing U (still hoping)

For the PS4, the only game I plan to get is The Last Guardian.

In terms of what I am looking out for, I'm" mainly in this year for the potential hardware announcements, there is the obvious NX in the room but I'm" now more intrigued by what Sony and Microsoft will show off. Even if the event is about more info on games already announced, that'll make it at least a solid E3 for me. In terms of software:

Microsoft:
-Crackdown 3 and Gears 4 tops the list easily
-Some big BC announcements of long requested games
-New Cuphead and Ashen footage/trailers
-Forza Horizon 3 to melt my eyes off
-Halo Wars 2 and Scalebound gameplay footage/trailers

Sony:
-God of War 4 (finally)
-PSVR Blowout, extended stage demos and presentations
-MatterFall gameplay (I strongly think they'll save it for their Europe show though)
-Final Fantasy VII Remake footage

Nintendo:
-More interested in their NX software line up not named Legend of Zelda

Ubisoft:
-Ghost Recon: Wildlands super hyped, hopefully it shows up
-New For Honor footage

EA:
-Nothing they have announced at the moment appeals to me but I'll still watch

Bethesda:
-I enjoyed their conference last year but since Doom will already be out, they got nothing announced I can think of that I am looking forward to, will still watch for surprises.

Square-Enix:
-Nier: Automata obviously

Wishlist:
-Yukio hops on stage and announces Crimson Dragon RPG and re-announces Phantom Dust Remake... I'm" not letting it go.
-Sang Youn Lee hops on stage and announces Ninety Nine Nights 3.
-Saint's Row V announced
-Darksiders 3 announced
-Hand of Fate 2 gameplay footage
-New IP from publishers and indies

Where do you guys go to watch the confrences usually? I used twitch and youtube last year. This year though, I have a job and can't watch them live. What would be the best place to avoid spoilers and watch the confrence after?

Nintendo needs to have a full stage conference for NX reveal. It would probably be televised on Spike like their E3 2012 conference was leading to more exposure.
As stated before, it doesn't really matter which way Nintendo goes since it'll get covered by all the major game sites, anyway. If it's a press conference, awesome! If it's a Digital Event, awesome, too! The method is irrelevant, it's the content that matters.

One ticket for the train please, the nx cabin, if possible. My favorite time of year is nearly upon us. Cant wait to see what nintendo does. Also I hope we get more ff7 remake news. Cant wait to see that mass effect andromeda gameplay!

E3 2016 is almost upon us!! This one will feel special to me because it's my first E3 as a gaming journalist, but I don't think we'll have an "E3 of dreams" like last year's. What I expect this year is more flesh to what we already know, rather than mindblowing things being uncovered.

For now, I'll only go for some predictions:

-FFXV gets another full-spec trailer, gameplay vertical slice from the full game available on the showfloor.

-Final Fantasy XII HD. Seriously, where is it? Anyway, long overdue, will be revealed in one of the events of this year for über-sure. This is Zestiria PS4 levels of obvious.

-Whatever PS4K is will be disclosed. (could happen during PSX too)

-No FFVII Remake. No Kingdom Hearts 3. No Dragon Quest XI. Skies cleared out for XV.

-SOV gets big promotional bump with release happening literally days after E3.

-Persona 5? Where art thou..... same goes for Tales of Berseria. Could go either way with those, specially with how the former enjoys getting release dates out of literally nowhere during events of its own xD

-Ni No Kuni 2 will make my soul rejoice again. Second Level-5 project will be new IP rather than sequel to Dark Cloud or Rogue Galaxy, much to my sorrow. Still excited though.

-Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 news, slated for October/November, including all additional content. All of it announced stealthily, without much highlight at all, but during E3.

-I still feel like TESVI could get a super small teaser, the kind that gives the "this game is 4 years away from release" vibe.

-We see Horizon and TLG during Sony's press conference and at least one of them is delayed into next year, not a big delay though.

-No Man's Sky promotion around launch going on.

-Gravity Rush 2 gets release date.

I could make a bunch more but we are still 2 months away, so I'll wait until the topic is hotter and evidence is more solid =)

What I want:

-FFVII-R
-Mass Effect 4
-Crash Bandicoot 4
-Resident Evil 7
-Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster
-Final Fantasy VIII PS4 port
-Demon's Souls and Dark Souls PS4 remasters

I'm really looking forward to Andromeda, Battlefield 5 and Titanfall - EA has some good shit coming. I also hope Detroit is there.
