Honestly makes me wonder what the average height of the other countries' olympic female basketball teams are. Also, what other countries have a basketball culture as strong as the USA does? It would make sense we have the team with the longest winning streak under their belt. It's enough to say the USA is great (something the people who produced this commercial and consume it probably would never admit), you don't need to say they're "greater than Alexander the Great".

Exactly. USA pulls from what’s essentially 50 countries’ worth of people, and other countries don’t have the biological spread, cultural following, economic freedom, and legal freedom. It’s always going to dominate basketball, because other countries will only have some of those elements at best. It doesn’t make a team historically significant, and suggesting it does isn’t even hyperbolic like they want to it to be. It’s just bollocks.

Ignoring the standard aim of advertising to help sales for a moment, what’s worse is the knock on effect. Anyone with a clue sees straight through it, but the rejection of history and other important things based on an arbitrary injection of feminism is not exactly the message that impressionable kids need to be hearing. It only serves to further promote the division of peoples based on things that don’t matter. They could have got the message across without that.

Its an incredibly cynical marketing ploy by Nike (the "patriarcy" line was purely for troll purposes). They know they can put these out, get people to view them (like them or not), and now they have just marketed you for one minute). Now, you could say, yeah, I wont buy those shoes now (but you probably weren't anyway). As Donald Trump said, any publicity is good publicity. Nike isn't stupid, they have seen their numbers....They know what they are doing.

Because secondary school boys can grind professional women to dust in almost every sport. The cultures she is shitting on did sports for fun between conquering and recreating the foundation for the modern world. Everyone remembers Pheidippides and the Marathon run, and in a year no one will remember the literally who who tested positive for weed and got disqualified for being unable to follow simple rules.
