I roll up the paper, whip out my PSP and watch Kung Fu Hustle for the next 1 and half hours. By the time we look up we're on our way, a train full of frustrated dejected Monday morning rush hour commuters and one guy grinning inanely at Stephen Chow's madcap masterpiece and my PSP's ability to deliver me that experience whenever, wherever.

Is that already out on DVD in HK, or were you naughty? I've been waiting for the DVD, but it just came out in HK theatres in Dec and won't be out here until April.

And i understand the curiousity, but it's really annoying to have everyone ask you what it is you've got, which happened at least once a day when i watched videos in public.

That's my biggest reservation about whipping out portable devices, especially $300 ones, in public. There's the fact that I feel like a big nerdy tool playing gameboy while clumped between 40 odd people on the train, in addition to the "hey what's that" factor.

I take a train every day to work which is anywhere from 40 min to an hour and 10 minutes depending on which train I catch. The PSP has been an amazing companion for the daily commute. Right after Christmas, Fry's had a sale where every season except the 7th season of Stargate SG-1 was only $25 a set. A week later they had the seventh season for $30 for the set. So I ended up getting the first seven seasons without ever having seen an episode of Stargate SG-1. I sorta did it on blind faith, hearing that it was good, and enjoying Stargate Atlantis from the beginning. I figured that since I liked Atlantis so much, I'd give the original a try. I'm glad I did too. I've already encoded all seven seasons for the PSP, and I've burned them to DVD to keep at work. So every day I watch anywhere from 2 to 3 episodes of the series and it completely kills the time on the train. All I do is load up about 2 to 3 eps on my memory stick and that still leaves plenty of room to keep a movie, some music, comics and pictures. I just can't imagine what I would do on the train without the PSP and I love that I have a series like Stargate SG-1 which I've never seen before to fill the void. My only concern is what will I watch next after I finish Stargate. I'm halfway through season 5.

Never. Movies run off the Memory Stick so are far more efficient with the battery than UMD.

and I don't understand how a 15 minute delay turned into an hour and a half of watching a movie.

A bus hit a railway bridge, I found out today. My route in is often delayed for some reason or another, though rarely that badly.

That's not a technology working for you, seems like the guy's life revolve around the technology which kind of defeats the purpose of having a portable.

Not really - I'd literally just encoded it to my Gb stick. It was a happy coincidence thats all. I see what you're trying to say and I have made some allowances for it (its bulkier than my iPod for example). But to be able to catch up on South Park and drop some blocks in Lumines and listen to MP3s more than make up for it.
