The British do a good number of things right....food is not one of them.

That said, pass me fish and chips or a fry up any time with an english ale, and its all good.

If I want real food, I'm heading across the channel (or the Atlantic).

my point still stands, don't let the rather monochromatic colour scheme fool you. this is comfort food and it will hit the spot. trust.

don't come to the UK and eat at angus steakhouse in the london's westend, you will leave disapointed.

Tobey Carvey, yes bruv. beefeater and harverster. knock yourself out, wont expand your horizons but your wasteline.

little chef and brewers fayre, now your taking the piss mate... go on fuck off!!

get yourself to a greasy spoon cafe or maybe a wetherspoons

or a local chippy.

oh and brick lane, curry is totally a national dish in the UK, don't test man!..

if NY can claim Pizza we can claim Curry.

British food is bland in colour scheme
Usually it goes either all beige (fish and chips), all brown see the dishes above) Or white brown orange and green(potatoes , meat, carrots and peas)
Pie and mash etc

But don’t equate that to crap food.

It’s good hearty food.

honestly. I tried haggis boy was it good.
If I’m honest I’m t was a plate of brown and beige ingredients but was so well d’on-dit tastes amazing.
If you go shit places you get shit food.

Also beef wellington above looks the way it does

Here is another better picture for f what beef wellington looks like

What’s not to love ?
British (and German food too) is usually meat and two veg. Euphemism aside, the meat part is the main part. Sometimes it's just the meat (or fish), or sometimes it's a dish like a pie.

You could call it boring, but it's not really bland. Unless you're really calling the natural taste of food bland, which is a shame.

And while spices are nice and all, there are some cultures that go so heavily on them that they need spices to enjoy food. Imho, they've damaged their sense of taste (take that as very subjective). I should know, as my dad isn't British and needs to have chillies with pretty much anything to enjoy it, and my mum a massive smoker so needs to smother her food with pepper to taste anything.

Most of these I’ve eaten . My statement stands. While not the most colourful they are hearty and comforting. I think the British would rather be tinkering in the shed or doing something eccentric instead or down the pub or watching footie. So spending time cooking and presenting food is/was kind of alien to us.

We just want food that is filling and comforting. Especially during the winter.

While not going to the extremes of our cousins, the French.(I mean that with all love, the french are wonderful they will take things to insane extremes blurring the lines between art/cuisine and science and they will champion it.)

the U.K. is changing the way it cooks.
Anthony Bourdain loved British food. (For this argument the curry totally counts.)

We just have to work on our presentation.

There's a lot of offal based dishes in china that have no taste. Heart, kidney and liver do have but things like Chicken feet, pigs ears and arteries are just fat and gristle and the only taste is the spices and sauces they are cooked in. Basically the "Meat" is just a delivery system for the flavors.

Sometimes less is more, sometimes more is more.

But yeah. The sauce should enhance the dish not be the main point of the dish. Otherwise just eat the sauce lol.

ranch dressing anyone ?

True.

My point was more that such people are so accustomed to have spice on food that any food without spice is bland to them. Hence why I think they've damaged their sense of taste. Chillies absolutely do damage it in the short-term, so you eat more chillies so that food isn't bland, and that means you're receptors in your tongue never have time to recover.
