Android Gaming Thread New OP

Going to use what little soap box I can stand on in this thread to give a hearty 'Fuck You' to Trendy Entertainment.

Nearly one year after I paid full price for Dungeon Defenders, here's a quick update:

- They went Free-to-play, giving nothing to people who supported them with a full price purchase. Now in-game purchases are how they make money.
- Had to update to try the new version through marketplace. Whatever, fine.
- Had to then reupdate within the game. a 600 MEGAbyte download. For an Android game. WTF. Took a half hour on wifi and failed multiple times.
- Just attempted to boot the game after all the updating was complete and guess what? HARD LOCKED MY PHONE. AGAIN. JUST LIKE IT ALWAYS DID A YEAR AGO. Fuck this shit. Had to pull battery and restart.

And I'm running a high-end phone (Samsung Galaxy Captivate) which is supposed to have more than enough power to run this game.

So frustrating. While I can't get my money back ($3 by no means will ruin me, but it's the principle of supporting lazy ass untalented developers), I can at least warn you all to stay away from Dungeon Defenders and any Trendy Entertainment products.

Use your money to buy one of the GAF-made games in the OP instead. You'll have 10x more fun and 1/1000th the headache.

Yoo Ninja! is an awesome, awesome little game. A bit like a one-touch meatboy or rather, one-touch vvv. It's pretty short but also pretty tough. Will soon finish, I hear part 2 is even better... and harder.

Pumpkins vs. Monsters is an action puzzler, you match and fling pumpkins to defeat zombies. Very unique. I dare say, add a bit more content, a real story mode and voila, it would be a $20 popcap smash hit. The music really sells this too.

Can't wait what they'll push out next.
Got pumpkin vs monsters for free (appshopper) on iOS based on this post. Thanx.

Sorry to bring that up. Anyways still looking for decent free games on android.

5th place in Stardunk, best I've done so far (Had a 6th a few days ago, but my tablet broke...got it replaced today)

Anybody else try Roboto? It's awesome. I couldn't believe how good it looked on my Transformer. Really well made platformer. The controls could benefit from actual buttons like most platformers, but it's still done well. This screenshot doesn't really do it justice, but oh well.

I posted this in a separate thread, but looks like someone is close to opening up the Xperia official PSOne emulator to play custom ISOs. Could be pretty sweet.

Also, there's a $2 sixaxis app that lets you bluetooth link your sixaxis to certain compatible devices. I heard you can add up to 4 controllers, this might be pretty great for emulators and some games. Gonna try it out later this week.

So after hard resetting my phone and redownloading Amazon Appstore, Age of Zombies is not showing in my list of purchased apps. Spoke to amazon and they said they will look into it and gave me 5.00 for my troubles. So I picked up battleheart... and THAT won't install on my phone, it acts like it will but then it resets my phone. Oh well at least I didn't really pay for it.

I heard about that too, except you need to have you phone rooted before you download it.

After many recommendations I finally installed (and installed, and installed) Dungeon Defenders.

It just reinforced my hatred of on-screen joysticks.

DD has THE worst onscreen sticks of any game I've played. Absolutely fucking horrible. I bought that game way back when it first came to Android for $7, and I had to upgrade my phone twice just to have a device it would actually get more than 7fps on. It runs great on my G2, but I can't play it because of the turrible sticks.

I uninistalled it. I'm looking forward to the PSN release quite a bit, but I will never try it again on a touch screen. Also, the stick controls are TERRIBLE.

Sixaxis controller is awesome for anyone who's phone is compatible and plays alot of emulators. Have a extra ps3 controller and sync it to your phone if you have hdmi mirroring like my Atrix you have an awesome mini console for any tv.

You must be rooted.

So I'm just recently getting into Android games that are outside the sphere of Angry Birds-like, flash-looking, games. I'd say this thread is almost completely responsible for this new found curiosity. Silpheed Alternative looks amazing - better than I thought cell phone games could look - and what's more is it's actually a game/genre that I enjoy. I really had no idea how powerful these things were. I'd been playing emulated PSX games on my phone at full speed but honestly they look like crap compared to these native phone games. So I went out in search of other beautiful phone games and found Samurai II. It's actually more fun than I thought I'd have. I saw a coworker playing and it looked great, but it was an action game that used on-screen controls (ugggh). I really just wanted to see how it would look on my phone and for $2.99 I felt it was worth it to experiment. It ended up being pretty fun and sold me... well opened my mind up to possibility that not all on-screen controls suck. After that I finagled a Galaxy on Fire 2 demo onto my non-Tegra Epic. Once again, blown away by the quality of 3D these things are capable of. Also not a bad game either.

I can live with the virtual analogue, but the virtual buttons don't really do it for me in Samurai 2. Also, only one hit and dead with no checkpoints in the level? Not to mention I have to manually restart after death since continue bugs out.
And Silpheed, the snalogue is bad and there is no way to configure the neutral position in tilt.

Both certainly look great by emphasise my decision to buy a Vita.

You have an energy bar in samurai ii. It's not instant death. I was working it pretty well rolling behind enemies and slicing for the well-timed kill move. I'mnot trying to say the touch buttons are a replacement for physical controls or even that they're particularly good. I just found that if done properly I can at least enjoy a cell phone game (while at the same time wishing I was playing with physical buttons).

With my phone that my not be such a big issue though as there is a snap-on controller made for it that turns my physical keyboard ino a gamepad. I haven't looked into any of the aforementioned game's options to see if that's even possible on them but my emulators would support it at least.

Great, so it's totally buggy on my SGS-II. Insta-deaths. Plus after one point I couldn't access the upgrade.menu anymore, just when I had enough Karma for the health upgrade. Plus the continue bug :-(

Will write the dev, but first a reinstall.

On the bright side you're already a badass in the game if you've been playing it as a one hit kill game, lol.

Samurai II is pretty fun. Gorgeous graphics, but the gameplay couldn't captivate me enough to continue playing. Looks incredible on my tablet, though.

Guess what? Faulty install.
I'll drop the dev a mail that he should really include a file checksum check. Gah.
And yeah, game looks great. Especially on that oled screen. Is also much more fun when not any random.hit kills you ;-)

Any word on TamaDroid? It's a Tamagotchi remake that looks to near perfectly emulate the original but with droid additions like notifications.

Free today on the Amazon App Store, Everlands.

It's a turn based strategy game, that feels a lot like Tetra Master from Final Fantasy IX, but on a hex grid. I was playing the trial version just yesterday, so pretty good timing on this being free for me...

The HD version is also free. I haven't delved too far into the game, but it seems pretty fun.

Minecraft is out now:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mojang.minecraftpe

Xperia Play exclusive for a month though, right?

The first version, Alpha 0.1, will focus on the "creative aspects of Minecraft," The folks at developer Mojang said.

"We have tried to put in the features that make sense for playing on a mobile device while still keeping the core of the Minecraft experience," they told Kotaku. "You will be able to select blocks on the touchscreen or just scroll through them with the circle and square buttons on the Xperia Play device. The first version also supports multi-player on a local wireless network allowing you to create a world and invite friends to build together."

Features in this build include:

• Randomized worlds
• Build anything you can imagine
• Build with 36 different kinds of blocks
• Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network)
• Save multi-player worlds on your own phone

And just like the still-in-development PC, Mac and Linux version, the team plans to continue developing on the Pocket Edition post launch.

Anyone playing Order & Chaos? I got curious and downloaded it yesterday. It's a complete WoW ripoff in every way.....and it's pretty awesome. It runs really well, and it plays well too. I have no idea how deep it is, I'm only level 6, but it seems like I've only explored a tiny fraction of the world so far. Combat is standard MMORPG fare, which works really well on a phone. Gameloft ported Dungeon Hunter over to PSN, and honestly, I'd buy this and a subscription if they ported it as well. I haven't touched my other 30+ games since I got it. Well worth checking out for $7.

Are we sure it's for a month only? Google says that it's a timed exclusive but no article I read seems to mention that it's only for a month.

Can't wait for the exclusive period to end. My phone is yearning.

I got to level 20ish and quit cause my friends weren't playing it. It's really really good though. Amazing for a mobile game even.

It's also available on Facebook now.

Friend of mine is asking if Gunbros is crossplatform multiplayer with iOS and I can't find anything. Any answers?

What's the best game graphically that's also fun? I need to put my SGSII to the test :)

doubt we can find anything like Infinity Blade, there's too much fragmentation on the Android scene

Best game I have played (graphically) on my SGS2 is probably Samurai II, it looks sweet.

They could do something like that, but maybe only for devices with a certain chipset (e.g. Tegra 2) which the market allows devs to do now.

so anyone want to compare high scores in Everlands. Fuck this game is hard/addicting to get high percentages.

It really is, though I've only played a few battles. Is it supposed to be possible to 100% each map?

Our game 180 got a feature on Nook today. For the development-minded among you, there's a lot of money to be made on that market.. anyway, I worked long and hard to put a decent strategy guide together for the game. It's free!

Oh thats your game? Well let me just tell you that Ive been playing it non stop for months now. Damn fine game. Good work.

i would love a super HD version of frogger to play on my SGS2 ..

i was just trying to play nova2 and realizing how utterly SHITHOUSE all touch devices are at FPS and other modernday console-sih control schemes .. people who say smartphones means the death of handheld consoles is ignorant. and short sighted.

all touch devices are only ever good at games made to be touch games ...

and on that note, i would LOVE a gorgeous remake of frogger, with gfx at the level of say a riptide hd .. and touch based.

anything like that out there?

Anyone playing Robotek? Looks absolutely great on Honeycomb tablets, and is pretty damn fun. Really simple mechanics, but who cares.

The best part is Hacking the opponents Bots, leaving him with nothing and watching the ensuing massacre. Feels SOOOO good.

So I picked up Cyberlords Arcology the other day with some amazon credit. I must say its a fun little wrpg. I do have some issues with the interface (lack of real inventory screen outside of the characters equip screen) but it runs on my phone perfectly and is great for a little cyberpunk rpg action quickly.
