Alright so I've been downloading and playing a few free games, thought I'd pass on some impressions:

Stair Dismount - Fun timekiller. Played it for ~20 minutes, don't see any replayability appeal beyond that, but it got a few laughs out of me to start. 5/10

Stardunk - Kinda like Shatter (PSN) meets basketball. Played offline only so far, going to try online soon.. If it makes a big difference I'll update score, but for now it's pretty much the same thing over and over again. 6/10

Shaky Tower - Cool motion-sensor balancing game. Worth a download. 7.5/10

Drag Racing (Free) - Yeah.. Pretty much the reason I decided to post. Awesome awesome awesome game. Maybe the best free game I've downloaded yet. Reminds me of the old drag racing flash games I used to play on Newgrounds. 9/10 (have some framerate issues now and then on Samsung Captivate.. Minus 1 for that)

I can't figure out how to quit Fieldrunners. I hit the home button, then it FCs.

I don't think you can actually quit it. I have to hit the home button, and it seems like the process goes away. I doublechecked via the running processes in Settings, and it's not there afterwards. No battery drain either. This is on an EVO running CM7.

Got Zenonia for my SGSII. Nice game though the music cutting out after just 30 seconds is annoying. Anyone else has this problem?

On the plus side, I'm now positively pumped for the Vita.

Damn, a screen like this, even more horsepower and proper controls? Bring it on!!!!

The loop in the town's music is pretty lousy (also how it restarts when you talk to NPCs or when there's a prompt) but I didn't find it as bad in the other areas I got to.

What's Android's best graphical showcase? Like Infinity Blade is to iOS. Is there something like that out there?

Wow, didn't know such a thread existed. Just in time too since I now have the froyo version of galaxy s phones running on my samsung wave

I would say Robotek HD is the best looking and smoothest running game on the platform that I've ever played. It really is gorgeous, but mostly by design and smart implementation rather than technical feat.

Got Toki Tori and Nano Panda as well as GOdroid.

Toki Tori is a really nice puzzle game in the vein of lemmings or the likes, you have a level, tools to use and try to get all the eggs. Recently encountered my first "trap". I like it when they use the most logical solution against you.
Plus it looks really nice.

Nano Panda is really smashing. Basically you shoot small nano pandas to smash evil atoms but the only way they can be controlled is by the cointeractive electromagnetic forces of other pandas you launch. Not only are the puzzlles clever, they even require some timing skill and experimentation.
Also, graphics are really cute and really crisp, feels like native res on my SGS2.

GOdroid is a free and ad-free Go application for Android. Go? You know, the Asian board game? I won't go into detail here. Works great, is free, looks adequate, what more can you want? Oh yeah, a touch-pen because zooming to place every stone on a 19x19 is surely a hassle. So there may be an indirect cost ;-)

Nano panda is great. Is it by the same team that did Cut The Rope? They're really similar is presentation and design.

But yeah, highly recommend this one.

Can't believe I missed this before but apparently Android has a slightly-inferior yet still acceptable free clone of Tiny Wings called Dragon, Fly!

Not as smooth as Tiny Wings but still fun nonetheless (and free!) :)

I'd have to strongly suspect not..

One thing you must all remember about Zenonia is that it's like a 5 year old korean mobile phone game ported to iOS and now Android, the looping music is down to how the game use to be on non smartphones. Cool game though I liked it a lot when it was new.

well, you might look at the first post on page #1 for starters :)

and grab my game for free while you are at it (as I shamelessly plug it on yet another page, hey a guy's gotta eat)

Of course the usual things people love are Popcap's games (Plants vs Zombies, Peggle) - Cut the Rope is pretty hot right now, Zombieville USA just released too.

BTW the Amazon free promo went really well, too early to tell if I got any actual sales out of it however. Check back with me in a week :)
heh thanks but I already own your game and most of the listed ones on my ipod touch :)

ah no worries :) BTW the Android version of 180 has a different mode, overhauled graphics, and will likely get an update (more modes) sooner than the iPhone version

Also, check out a game called Drop7 for either device, it's a must-have!

I love 180 Ultra. A beast of a game.

Downloaded it earlier, never played it before (was tempted to try one of the clones since there was no trial version until now), pretty fun. Is it the full game just with ads then?

It got me more interested to try the Kinect version now. Maybe it'll be the first thing I ever buy on Kinect... (Was in the beta and got one free).

Hope there's more Halfbrick coming to Android soon, I'd buy Monster Dash for sure.

What's wrong with Fruit Slice ? Sure looks better to me.

Same with Dragon, fly vs Moon chaser

Fruit Slice looks like a 100% clone, not sure what looks better about it to you. But both are free so I'll go with the originator not the copycat.

Dragon Fly and Moon Chaser are both also clones, but the original isn't on Android, and they at least have the decency to change the characters and setting to not be exact carbon copies.

The look of it looks better to me but yeah it's the same game.

I got the newest Droid phone from my upgrade and have been downloading so many apps, it's not even funny.

Game Dev and Grand Prix Stroies are unexpectedly fun.

Obviously, I got all three versions of Angry Birds (free). It's nice.

Cordy's framerate is awesome!

Cut the Rope is a great puzzle game.

Any other suggestions?

Any Survival Horror Type games Resi or DS etc for the Android?

oh and any zombie shooters in the same vein as Alive4ever, I had the last stand already..

many thanks

I just got my phone this month, but here's some games I've been liking...

Age of Zombies
Death Worm
Flight Control
Fruit Ninja
Kongregate Arcade (UpBot Goes Up!)
Meganoid
Nemo Picross
Picma Squared
Reiner Knizia's Labyrinth
Reiner Knizia's ClusterMaster
Shoko Rocket
Toki Tori
TouchMix
Trial Xtreme
YooNinja

In regards to Fruit Slice, I have had that game for months. When I recently played that free version of Fruit Ninja, I went back and played Fruit Slice right afterwards, and found that Fruit Ninja is actually a lot smoother. At least on my Asus Transformer.

And I'll try Moon Chaser. Haven't played that before.

Scandalously, I have never played the original titles on the PC. But this little version is absolutely great.
You managa a fantasy kingdom, building markets, barracks and the likes and hire heroes. But instead of controlling each unit, those lil guys have a mind of their own. So you lure them around with rewards will slowly investing in nuildings like the blacksmith so the lil buggers will eventually decide to stop by and get themselves some equipment so you don't constantly have to lure some new heroes with money to work in your kingdom.

It's fun, addictive, has nice music and the graphics are really fantastic. Pictures don't do this proper justice.

Works really well with the touch controls and is totally worth the asking price.

This is a really really nice iteration of the game. I was very surprised how well this worked on Android. One of my favorite games on the phone.

I had NOVA preinstalled on my phone. Is this 50MB game good, or should I just uninstall?
It's good. I think early last year, it was the best FPS on mobile phones until it was topped by Modern Combat, which is also from Gameloft. It also got IGN's game of the year I think.

There's a sequel, NOVA 2.

Right now, NOVA series and Modern Combat series are the best FPS games on the market. Both from Gameloft.

And is it only 50mb? I wonder if it's the trial version. It seems a bit low unless Android game sizes are different.

50MB seems pretty big for an Android game. Usually they are pretty small so the marketplace download is quick, then they'll download extra files in app. NOVA 2 is a 2.5MB download off the marketplace.

I just found a game called Grand Prix Story by the makers of Game Dev Story.

Sorry if this is old.

About a month old now, but never a bad thing to keep bringing it up! GPS was great fun while it lasted, but I didn't find it as addicting as GDS.

Any thoughts on Hot Springs Story? I heard it was meh, but I do love me some kairosoft games. It's available for under $3 so I'm thinking it's worth a shot.

There's a trial version. Lets you play a good chunk. It feels less unique than Game Dev Story since there's been a ton of "manage your own hotel/resort/spa/theme park/whatever" games over the years, but it's definitely a more polished game. Haven't tried Grand Prix Story yet to know how it compares to that.

Ok, Since that was old, I'm going to try at another game. Sorry if this has already been posted, or old.

(watch the video, the screen doesn't do it justice!)

Battleheart

Looks like kairosoft have a new game up on the marketplace, looks like a football (or soccer for some of you) related game. Seems to be Japanese version only at the moment.

Gonna guess the name.... Soccer Team Story? :p

Sadly is not supported on my phone...

Try the Amazon link for Battleheart . Some phones have self imposed filesize limits to downloads from the Android Marketplace. For example, Galaxy S phones can't download any app over 30MB from Android Marketplace. They can however download far larger files from Amazon or from within apps themselves. (Though if you're on AT&T you can't directly install apps you've downloaded from Amazon "for your safety" and have to resort to sideloading).

Hmm... I might have to try it from there. I know that in the marketplace (on phone) its not listed and online it says its not compatable. Things like Shadow Era and Rocket Bunnies won't install to my phone either which I got from the Amazon App store.
