But do we expect too much from mobile apps?

It seems we want them updated every week with more content and shit!

Not really, I expect £10-15 games with decent content and updates not silly IAP.

There are some games out there that meet my expectations but not many, I suppose mobile gaming is still young though.

Currently downloading Asphalt 7. Should I be expecting better or worse in comparison to NFS Most Wanted?

Edit: Way worse. Damn, was hoping for another decent racer. Refunded...
Android Gaming Rule No 1, if it's a Gameloft title, wait till its free.

Anyone else use the SGS3? I wanted to get a new SD card for it (16 gigs fill up quickly when I add my ripped CDs of music to it...) but I'm hearing SGS3 phones pretty much "kill" SD cards. :( Now I'm scared...

Nonsense, I've had a 32GB one in mine since day 1 and I've got an International model so I've had it for quite a while now.

Enjoying Dream House Days but I'm a terrible landlord. Keep on renting out semi furnished apartments to students before then swanking them up and demanding the poor tenant change their career to pay for it or they'll be evicted.

Code is 285626137 if anyone's got friend spaces free.

Big update to Dungelot just now, and ... I don't think I like the radical changes at all.

Tried it yesterday and I like the changes. The problem before was that the only way for me to get far was to play twice in a row so you can find your corpse during the second run. I never had the time to do two runs in a row so I never made it past level 34. Now I managed to get to level 102 or something.

Oh, and that save feature was really needed.

Not sure if I would quite call it a Diablo clone, but its probably my favorite thing on android right now.

9th Dawn RPG +

There might be some glitches, the developer just released a new version and will be patching bugs all week.

I was under the assumption Heroes Call was still the best (one of the few) Diablo clones, even though it's stamina based. It's decent, anyway, the genre is seriously underrepresented on handhelds.

That looks awesome. I can't imagine it running too well on a small 4.3" phone screen though :( I'll try the demo.

My phone has a tiny mdpi 3 inch screen (xperia mini pro) and it runs great, the latest update scales everything to the screen size and adds a zoom in button too. Give the lite version a try, it's a great game.

Looks likes Simpson Tap out getting release this week. already up on the android store in NZ.

I played it a few days ago (it was already in my store). It's the most cynical kind of freemium game there is. It's supposed to be a city builder but the whole game involves waiting around for timers and it has no real gameplay at all. Place a building and wait this many minutes for it to build. Tell someone to go do something and wait that many minutes for it to complete. When the task is done, you're given a little XP and ingame money which isn't that useful. The timers of course keep extending to the point where you can't actually play the game at all. You'll start the app, collect your money, set a few tasks and then forget about it for hours. It's all designed to get you buy their ingame currency 'donuts' so that you can speed up the process. It's not even like Tiny Tower where you can constantly keep getting the real currency just by playing or have something to do while stuff is building. In this game you just wait for timers.

edit - Toucharcade did a video on it. Shows what I'm talking about - http://toucharcade.com/2012/08/31/ta-plays-the-simpsons-tapped-out-a-free-to-play-building-sim/

Life is Magic is now available and Canada! (and Europe, I think!) I'm kind of baffled, though - is there really no way to create a new character without submitting a support ticket? This is what the posts on their forums have lead me to believe. I made a throwaway mage (with a stupid name) to try out the class, and kind of want to, you know, try out the other classes like every other class-based role-playing video game ever.

It actually is better in a lot of ways. There's much better event and track variety, where in NFS:MW, you're kind of racing on similar stretches of highway in a variety of modes that are just different metrics of "go fast."

But it's very rehashy. Most of the tracks are straight out of Asphalt 6.

Ingress meets WoW? How is it?

It's not bad for a freemium title. The way it combines your local RPG-ified real world location with location-based social stuff is pretty interesting. The gameplay itself is just a (really well made) Facebook game, though. Dungeons consist entirely a series of battles where you choose after each to flee with your loot or risk it on the next floor, where you fight something more vicious. There's exploration based on your current street map, where you can find treasure, more dungeons, stores (based on the location of real-world businesses, I think), etc. Every non-battle action in the game costs MP, though, which is their version of energy/turns/etc. It ticks back slowly over time so you don't have to wait a day to play again if you run out, but there's that. And all the best items cost crystals, a resource which might only be available with real money purchases.

Been playing Nemo's Reef the last week or so, don't think I've seen it mentioned here.

Gorgeous reef sim/building thing.

Yeah, this is really the most horrible sort of game. It feels like it was designed by a team of accountants instead of a team of creative individuals. Every single aspect of the game is geared towards getting the player to spend quite a large amount of money on in-app purchases...

I too have started playing Life is Magic just yesterday. I can post impressions if anyone cares.

On another note anyone have any recommendations for a puzzle game with good music?

I'm really surprise that visual novel haven't exploded on mobile devices. They're perfect for it.

You are not alone. It's coming. Gamers are super slow to accept visual novels (but they are on their way with Walking Dead) and the e-book audience in the West doesn't know that visual novels exist. Games made in Ren'Py are adaptable to android, so it's just room full of powder kegs waiting for a match.

Any puzzle game with the music off and Sirtet by Melting Pot playing in the background on an infinite loop. In fact, all of life would be enhanced by this playing at all times in every situation. :D

(I have nothing else of value to contribute :3 All the Android puzzle games I've played so far have been pretty bland musically, no matter how good the game is in general)

Hey, speaking of puzzle games - Is there no Drop7 Free for the Android platform? Zyngaaaaaaarggh

Almost done with GTA3, just unlocked the third island. Fuck yeah, never beat this game before. Soon I can buy Vice City and have twice the fun.

Drop7 is shit. Doesn't fit whole of screen and balls drop wrong place. Last time I played it that was...

Also is there a "meaty" game you guys can recommend. Haven't found anything that grabs my attention more than a couple hands of spades...

Why is The Simpsons Tapped Out saying that it's not compatible with my device?
I have a Galaxy S3 and for some reason I can't find the game on the UK Play Store.

Some people say star traders rpg is the most in depth game for android. Sadly I can't get into it no matter how often I try. Ymmv!

thanks very much gaf for this recommendation

dungelot is by far the best mobile game I ever played.
I hate mobile games by the way.

but dungelot found the perfect balance between easy controls, complexity and luck. and it looks nice.

reached level 106 witthout the new update, I dont know what changes but I'll update know and maybe the changes will give me new motivation to play it.

Guys any sites or apps where I can follow latest price drops or "going free" for Android apps and games?

Good up to date android game sites are annoyingly rare. I'd say this thread here, or /r/androidgaming is probably your best bet. I'd get the amazon app as well. I've had a good few decent free games from them. Waking up every morning and checking to see what the free app is is itself surprisingly fun.

100 pages? 50ppp under class detected!

But yeah, I don't know about the new thread thing. On one hand, the OP seems to be banned, so no updates to the OP showing the must have games. On the other, a thread like this tends to be about the newer posts, rather than having the OP constantly updated.

edit: on a side note, just installed Vector. Definitely worth a look from people who like temple run and/or mirror's edge.

I just found Sims FreePlay. This would be the first Sims game I ever played. Yeah, it's addicting. :\
