Here are some more detailed specs of the Cliq:

Processor Qualcomm - MSM7201A
Processor Clock Speed - 528 MHz
RAM - 256 MB
Flash Rom - 512 MB
User Storage Available (Max) - 256 MB
Memory Card Size Supported (Max) - 32 GB

The Cliq, as nice as it looks, isn't thinner than the iPhone. So, that can mean two things:
1. The analyst misspoke.
2. He wasn't referring to the Cliq but the Sholes, which may have been shown behind closed doors.

In the end, the rumored specifications of the Sholes blow the Cliq out of the water, but I would never leave T-Mobile for it.

And three pieces of the puzzle are filled in! Specs are almost exactly the same as the Hero. Awesome. :D

Well in any case the Cliq looks to be a great phone all by itself, from both the design and tech perspectives. Maybe not in the high-end class of things, but that's good because it should be more inexpensive when it launches.

So, it has the same processor as the G1, but also more ram (256 vs. the G1's 192) and a larger flash rom (512MB vs. the G1's 256, which is believed to be the reason that the G1 may not receive newer builds of Android).

As someone else said, it's the HTC Hero with a little less ram and a QWERTY keyboard. In other words, I'm sold.

The phone looks good (the Cliq). But coming from the iPhone's 3.5 screen leaves me wanting more. It's cool that the phone is "smaller" than an iPhone, but I don't find the iPhone to be that much of a brick...actually it might be small as it is. Give me a bigger screen please.

I guess I will stay with my 1 gen iPhone until the Ericsson phone is release. Hopefully T-mobile will get some love :-/

:D It's always so exciting when a new Android phone is officially shown. I always designate it as the next phone I want and abandon my plans to get the previous one. :lol

On MOTOBLUR, while I don't really care for the "brushed" aesthetics (versus Sense's gloss), I love what they did with the drawer on the bottom, I always disliked the fact there was dead space on both sides of the tab.
 
Come to the shores of the UK oh mighty Android phones with keyboards. I had a Hero for a week and it really cemented the fact that I am dying for a hardware keyboard on these phones. Everything about it was great apart from the ropey mail integration/widget, which i'm sure can be improved upon if i'd just delved in a bit more.

I'm hoping Sholes comes before the end of the month.

Cliq is nice. Although I don't want any of the social networking horse shit because I don't use it. If it can be customized into oblivion I'm game. :D
 
There's been no confirmation because it's all leaks but I'm 99.9% sure it's the second one. The first one *seems* like a 3d render earlier in time. The second is an actual picture of the product after the render leaked. Only makes sense.

And if it ever comes to o2 under the Telefonica hat they're have spent so much money on the crappy iPhone and the Pre that the tariffs will still be shit :(

Ehhh I wouldn't hold your breath for that, the hackers seem more interested in splicing the different Android ROMs together than getting them on different hardware... plus both Android and the TP have been out for a while...

You could always hope that rumor of the Touch HD2 running Android is true though. :)

Well I have Android on it already but I can't make calls or anything so its pretty much just to freak someone out. I want to switch to Android so I can use the Google Voice app because the chances of a WinMo app being made by Google seems pretty slim.
 
Touch Pro with Android has always been my dream Android phone. :( I love the form factor, specs, and keyboard.

Don't really care for the TP2's looks...
 
I posted this in the Motorola topic, but since it sort of pertains to all Android stuff maybe I'll post it here and someone can let me on the question I pose in it.

Personally, I'm just a tad bit concerned with the whole "skinned UI" thing that goes on with Android. I sort of thought we were passed that after the precedent of the iPhone.

I mean, I realize Android is potentially portable to alot of different form factors of phones rather than the unified design the iPhone has the advantage of having, but I still sort of get annoyed thinking if I move from one Android phone to another Android phone by a different manufacturer I may have to get used to some new skinned version of Android - unless all of these allow you to move back to some default. I honestly don't know since my knowledge of Android is limited.

I'm curious as well.

Like I said the MotoBlur shit is just a huge turn off despite the device itself being a solid design.

If I can nuke it and get a stock interface / menu similar to iPhone I'd be really interested. My AT&T contract is up in November, so hopefully Sholes drops by then; but I'm looking to become informed as well.

Phone manufacturers want to differentiate their products. With the high volume of Android devices coming out soon, this is more important than ever.

We already have this issue with desktop Linux. Every distro looks different. I'm not against it, but I would be much happier if the UI was a modular bit of the OS that could be changed by users without rooting/flashing.

It can. Have you seen the homescreen replacements, aHome, BetterHome, etc.?

As long as most generalized apps (non-GPS-using, non-accelerometer-using, etc.) are cross-compatible between all consumer Android phones, we'll be fine. Sense may have gloss and Motoblur may be brushed, but it's still the 99% exactly the same interface despite the differing eye candy. I also predict that the apps will be cross-compatible, because no manufacturer wants to lose that "Thousands of apps!" bullet point.

The Android codebase is so ridiculously modular, there's even dozens of keyboard replacements and skins.
 
When is an Android device going to up its hardware (processor) to be up there with the Iphone or PRE. There are other chipsets out there guys....

The Palm Pre and first two iPhones are underclocked to 500 and 412 MHz respectively, with the iPhone 3GS underclocked to 600 MHz. All currently released and announced Android phones have 512 MHz as their clock speed, and the HTC Hero, HTC Magic (extra awesome version), and Motorola Cliq all match the Pre's and iPhone 3GS's 256 MB of RAM (and easily beats the original and 3G iPhone's 128 MB RAM.)

They're all pretty comparable.
 
I was under the impression that the MyTouch only had 192MB of RAM, despite the fact that the original Magic was 256....

I really can't believe myself sometimes...in the last year I've had (in order) Samsung Instinct, HTC Touch Diamond, iPhone 3G, HTC Touch Pro and am now using the Palm Pre. I really thought when I got the Pre that I would be able to last a year plus but, if it wasn't official before, it's official now...I'm a phone whore.

At this point I'm making myself crazy trying to figure out what the Sprint Hero is going to go for on eBay. I always buy too early and then see the price drop somewhat substantially a few weeks later, but it's going to be hard to hold off after reading about Android so much lately.

Now, since I've never touched/seen in person the Hero/Magic/G1 etc., what phone has the same size screen? I'm trying to get a feel for what it's like compared to the Pre (on paper, they are .1" difference, but is it taller? wider?)

HTC's Android handsets have relatively narrow/tall screens, that's all I know. Phone Arena lets you compare them here, though I don't think sizes are to-scale.

With this CLIQ nonsense im really starting to doubt purchasing the Hero. The phone I have now has a great keyboard and I have never punched out texts faster, so I would love a keyboard phone but the CLIQ looks like a toy.

Does the Hero have some kind of haptics when typing?
 
Yeah, Android phones have an option to vibrate slightly when you use the vk.

I think the dark titanium Cliq looks slick.

Indeed. It also occured to me that the Cliq's layout...

... of a D-Pad on the left of the keyboard plus accelerometer, etc. makes it the best possible phone gaming hardware coming out as far as I can see. I can see emulators especially benefiting from this, though obviously so will all the other Market games.
 
What's everyone's favorite Android streaming audio program? I've only tried Pandora, Last.fm and Imeem.

I like mostly hip-hop, with some alternative rock.

1. Last.fm is probably my favorite so far. It seems like it's the fastest of the three, and by a considerable margin. I'm talking about quick seeks and no/little skipping. It's faster than Pandora was on my 3G. I like the widget best of the three too.

2. Imeem is probably the slowest of the three, but it seems to do a better job assembling a playlist than Pandora. I can't compare it to Last.fm in that regard, because I didn't listen long enough to hear repetition in either. I just remember Pandora being very repetitive with the playlist selections, and having a hard time finding consecutive tracks for that artist's station. Imeem seemed as smart as Last.fm in the regard, but just slow. Maybe I was in a bad spot.

3. Pandora is Pandora. It's what I expected, with the same issue of it giving me lots of Jeezy when I only want like TI or Lil Wayne. It seems to do more of a genre search than artist search, eventhough it labels the stations by artist. It was faster than Imeem, but slower than Last.fm. About in the middle on speed, but I value the playlist a bit more, so I rank it third.

Any other suggestions? I only want to keep one. Thoughts? PEACE.

But the Pre and 3GS both use processors based on the ARM Cortex A8 design which is 2-3x faster as the ARM 11 design that the Hero, Magic & Cliq use.
MHz is not a good way of comparing speed when one processor is a generation ahead design wise.
They really are not very comparable. I want the 1ghz Snapdragon in an android phone please but even something equivalent to the Pre/3GS would do!

Strongly agree with this. When viewing and reading impressions of the Hero, what I come away with is that it really could use a better processor. When I found out the Cliq uses similar hardware, I was disappointed.

Hmmm... looking at the description in that image of the data plan options, it looks like TMO will be going back to including 400 messages with the $24.99 data plan. Good move, and good deal for customers. I'd like to see them offer a pure data plan for less than 24.99, since we have unlimited messaging on our family plan already.

BTW I'm sure it's already posted here somewhere, but you can get $100 off a MyTouch ($99 net) through 9/24 with the promo code KICKOFF24... the phone was on oprah, and the code is from that event. And even though I bought the phone just 5 weeks ago, I get jack.
