At the very very least, let people customize it a dedicated camera button.
Is it true that using those remapping apps cause servere peformance issues in the software?

Yup. Was horrible the 3 re-mappers I tried and the package disabler, which worked great, started wanting me to download APKs externally so I thought fuck that.

I got 8.0 on my Pixel XL and dumb question, but how do I view SoT? I used to be able to click on the battery icon and get taken to the battery graph but I can't seem to find it anymore. Granted, I haven't looked that hard and figured it be easier to ask here lol.

Hard to say. We might get news at the Pixel event.
On a side note shit like this is harder to parce in Google land. Google always does I/O earlier than Apple WWDC, and then they go later than the iPhone event.
Couple that with Apple a lot of times having an event in March/April you're much more in the know with Apple.
Google tends to be on radio silent for a lot of the year at least as far as Android is concerned.
Edit: It does feel like Google doesn't give a fuck considering they haven't pushed any updates to it since 2.0.

Go to battery in setting and tap the dots on the upper right corner, and then tap on "Show Full Device Usage". You'll be able to see SoT then.

My Pixel XL replacement for the 6P has apparently stopped at FedEx and hasn't moved. It's two day shipping, it left and got initially shipped Friday. It got up it's current location early evening yesterday and it hasn't moved for over 24 hours. I swear if they fucking lost my phone...

Yeah, releasing kind of late this year. Hope they keep the dual front speakers and capacitive keys. They need to make it an android one phone. Fuck it makes it easier on them and gives them more sales.
It's kind of true, but I think somewhere deep down the pixels had their own appeal of being "the best" more or less when they came out.
Is the contention of the article that the pixels need some kind of unique gimmick other than being "pure" latest android? like s8 infinity edge, u11 squeeze, the v20 second screen, etc.

Yeah that's the going to be one of the main features they tout. I think the Pixel phones can do well, but they have to deliver on availability and do better there. At least on the bigger Pixel, they have an attractive phone.
The lack of headphone jack is a miss though. I overheard some of my colleagues talking about how they are holding on their 6S as long as possible because of the lack of headphone jack. I think enough people still care for that to be a small difference maker.
This is true though. I was yelling at another co-worker (jokingly) because she wasn't updating her S7 Edge or using her 15GB of free Google Photo storage, lol

Google ain't ever gonna find any significant success with their phones as long as they keep half-assing it every year. There's always something they can't seem to get right, going back to the G-nex days. It's not a stock vs skinned Android thing. It's a Google is incompetent as fuck thing.
