Totally worth it.

What's your main use for the watch? In terms of watch culture, I have one of those indestructible 80s Casio watches that I literally never take off. Swimming, shower, etc.

I'm sooo close to pulling the trigger, but I don't know anyone with a smart watch...

It's an extension of your phone in almost every way, and it should be seen as such. It's never going to be a stand-alone device, really. I use it mainly to check my notifications, track my daily fitness (it definitely helps me keep up with my 1,5 hours of activity every day) and, of course, to tell the time.

This one is only IP67 certified, so I wouldn't take it swimming. Showers should be fine, though.

I lurve my referbed Sony Smartwatch 3, but I'm having trouble finding good information revolving using Android Wear as a fitness wearable platform.

What are you fitness buffs using the platform for, what are your favorite apps, and is there anything useful for more than running and general tracking?

(I did find the Progression app, which is far and away the most feature complete gym tracker I've used to date.)

I changed from a Casio g shock that I never took off to a pebble time smart watch. 3 day battery life and it's waterproof.

I use my OG Moto 360 to view and reply to texts at work since we can't have phones out. The battery is absolutely terrible though.

Well the OG 360 has a terrible sensor so anything will be an improvement. The little green light on mine stopped working.
I'm personally going to wait for Huawei Watch 2 or Moto 360 3

Oooh look at that i just got the new update.

Mines measures ok I just wish that I could specify when I want it to do the random detects. I always go to the gym around 5am-630am and I would like to have it just look then and then passively during the day. What apps are you guys using for fitness?

Been using the Gear S2 and it's perfectly fine. My only gripe is notifications go away too quick, but the battery life is pretty good. 2 days before charging it. Hanve't tested voice stuff, but TBH I never used it when I had the Moto 360 first gen anyway.

Same here. I think I'm missing out on the cool things people can do with this watch. I just haven't had the time to explore.

Those been out for a while.

Fun thing I never realized existed before is double clicking the side button to turn off the screen without going through the menu to theater mode. Is that new, or have I just not noticed it before?

For Zenwatch it's newish update. That feature's been there.

Been there before (or at least on the OG 360)

Ok. Someone convince me to drop $280 on a stainless steel smartwatch.

Bahhhh... I wish there had been same day shipping option on that.

I didn't mind the flat tire much, but I am going to be very happy to lose it.

Sorry buds, I'm new to the thread and want a quick update on current smartwatch functionality. So far I've skipped smartwatches, waiting for the tech to mature.

1. As of now, can any android smartwatches make and receive calls through the watch? As in, functioning like a speakerphone, with a mic on the watch itself picking up my voice. Think communicator from power rangers. Ideally connected to the phone in my pocket through bluetooth.
2. If so, are those calls compatible with Google Voice calls? I have a google voice number and all of my calls and texts are made through the Gvoice app and Hangouts dialer.
3. On that note, can I open the google voice app itself on the watch to read texts?
4. Can I upload my own custom watch backgrounds that I've made?

With the latest Android Wear version (1.4), you can indeed make and receive voice calls through your watch via Bluetooth connection on select watches that have a speaker. Which means the Huawei Watch and the Asus Zenwatch 2 as of right now.

With the Wear version of the Hangouts app, you can read any message on the watch's face and send any text message through Google Now (assuming you have the latest version of Wear) and within the app. You can't make voice calls.

And for custom watch faces, you will need to download an app for that unless the watch's manufacturer has your back and developed a face designer. I know the Asus Zenwatch line has one. But there are many, many watch face designer apps.

I kiiiiiiinda want the Asus Zen 2. Only had the first LG one but sold it after not using it much + no WiFi.

And it's just 160€ so not that expensive...

Mh.....

If you pay for Watchmeker Premium, you'll never be lacking watchfaces. And, if there's a feature on a face you want or dislike, they're editable.

Ok, got my watch set up and hit the Marshmallow update... How do I use the watch speaker to listen to a phone call?

It just works for me, after I reboot my watch once after the update.

I love mine, got the rose gold one, except people often mistaken it to be the gold Apple watch...

Open the Phone app on the watch, allow it the permissions it wants, then you can set to receive phone calls on the watch.

My moto360v1 isn't lasting a full day anymore. I'm thinking about getting the gen 2 but haven't seen any objective benchmarks comparing the two.
Anyone know what battery life improvements to expect?

Any Moto 360 1st gen owners notice the new update made the watch good again? I've not expereinced any of the "i didn't catch that" (when it clearly did) or "network not available" (1-2 minutes after I completed what I wanted to say to it) after that update. The "OK Google" command followed by a string of words works damn near instantly now. You don't ahve to pause between the trigger and what you want it to do anymore either. On that note though, this has made me realize that "OK Google" is a little too long and clunky. I wish I could say something else that was a bit faster. Maybe "Hey Google" would suffice.

So, marshmallow arrives on Android wear with new doze feature to increase battery life.

I.e THE most important part of a smart watch.

And I can find no info about how MM has made any difference to AW battery life. People talk about doze. Nobody reviews or rates its performance.

Should I take from this that it's a failure?

Have you done a full reset? I did and it improved my Moto 360's life a lot.

I'd say doze in itself is a failure. The whole point of a smart watch is to get notifications from your phone. Doze delays your notifications if your device is inactive for a period of time. Why would you want that on a watch (or phone for that matter)?

Although I don't agree that's a valid opinion, but I wanted factual info about battery improvements (or lack thereof).

Yes seems like my watch performs alot better. Wish it didn't have this burn in from God knows where...

Thanks for your reply.

No Gvoice/hangouts calls, no deal. I make and receive all calls through my Gvoice number because i have unlimited net but only 100 minutes. Oh well, guess no watch for me just yet. But maybe soon. It's getting there.

Would like battery life to get a bit better before I jump in, too. Don't want to have to charge it as often as my phone.

Forgot to charge my Huawei watch last night. We're now 3.30 on day 2 with 59% b82rez.

Max brightness, wifi on, all cylinders.

Fuck yes, lads, we've arrived.

Alas,

Making calls on the watch itself is a cool novelty and occasionally actually useful, but it doesn't mesh well with actual bluetooth headphones. It will take over and make them useless for calls. So I had to disable that.

Overall, Android and bluetooth don't handle multiple devices all that well.
